LEGO Minifigures Character Encyclopedia Details

I particularly like the “Did You Know?” section on each page that shares something about the history of the particular minifigure, or interesting facts about the design process or accessories included. I believe LEGO history fans will love this! (Click images for larger view.)

There are also little stories for each of the characters about their personalities and how they fit into the LEGO world. Also there are directions to pages in the book to similar characters under the “See Also” section.

THE TOY SOLDIER HAS SIDE LEG PRINTING!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!

    • Strider April 11, 2013, 3:41 PM

I know 🙂 Is that the first time?

      • Fikko3107 April 12, 2013, 12:02 PM

To trivially answer your question, no. The fairly elusive Max minifigure had pocket printings on his tan legs.

  • Chris of Yoda Archives April 11, 2013, 10:41 AM

Looking forward to the book. The Toy Soldier is pretty cool. Plus a poster when you order 5 mini figs from lego shop in May.

What I like about the book is it seems like the pictures are real not cgi. Meaning the arms do not bend wrong or the legs. I know you can get a more characteristic pose that way, but I prefer to keep it all pure Lego. I like the minifigures series, but I always find myself choosing sets over them. It would help if you could actually KNOW what you are purchasing. I suppose some people like most all of them so it does not matter, but usually I only like about four in every series. (By like I mean like enough to spend three dollars on it.)

Strider, I also prefer pictures of the minifigs rather than the enhanced versions. I actually know people (not so familiar with LEGO) who got deceived by those images with bendy legs and arms, thinking that’s how the minifigures actually are. As far as purchasing the minifigs you want, the “feel-method” is actually quite fool-proof once you get the hang of it. It is also educational – I never knew my fingers can “see” like that! 🙄

The mystery theme of the minifigures series is not so bad when you can feel the bags, but my family usually does not go to places like toys r us and walmart that often, (the series end so soon) and the one time I tag alone and see them is the one time I don’t have cash in my pocket 🙂

        • admin April 11, 2013, 4:13 PM

Strider, I see what you mean. Yeah, if you have to order blind bags online, that’s no fun. 😕

          • Legoman640 April 12, 2013, 4:36 PM

As said before,no mini figure series or Brickmaster sets over here. 🙁

  • Strider April 11, 2013, 11:58 AM

It says on the side of the box, “…includes over one hundred sixty minifigures…” that could be a little decieving to some people.

    • admin April 11, 2013, 2:11 PM

Yeah, I thought of that too! 😀

Little Boy: Wow oh wow oh wow, it is a dream come true! It is like the second best thing since Lego candy! Since the Death Star! Since pieces that aren’t just bricks!

        (ding dong)

        shuffle, fall, leap, click, slam.

Little Boy: Mwah ha haaa! Time to check out these babies! They should be…wait…aha! wait no……………” (awful realization kicks in… a fire is kindled…a wrath unleashed…)

        Two years later.

Grandpa. “… so you see sonny it was because of DK that are country has been divided…”

The Toy Soldier? I LOVE THAT GUY!!!!!!!!!

  • Jacob April 11, 2013, 1:02 PM

I was more than a little disappointed that the toy solider was going to be made available this way instead of through the actual collectible minifigure series. I know a few people wanted to make a small “army” of them when it was first seen in November. I was personally wanting a few to make a marching band (though there is still the possibility of LEGO making a marching band figure specifically). If I were to change things, I would have added it to one of the other CMF series, and put the golden minifigure as the exclusive book figure.

As for the book itself, it is interesting that they actually have some details in terms of parts and parts history on some of the pages, which I was not expecting, and appreciate (even if all this information I’ve known for quite some time.)

    • admin April 11, 2013, 2:13 PM

Jacob, yes, I have also heard others complining that the Toy Soldier would have been better as a regular Collectible Minifig – after all it’s an excellent army builder! 🙂

  • lego trooper 91 April 11, 2013, 1:45 PM

wow that looks cool i have 3 of the minifiurs guys and the toy solder is relly cool to i want to make a lego war like in les miserables and i have all ready made a barricade but i don’t have any solders for the bad guys so i want to get 2 of the mini lego lone rager sets 😉

  • LisaLL April 11, 2013, 7:01 PM

This book looks fantastic, and I will be preordering it! I agree with other commenters that one toy soldier is not enough toy soldiers. Can anyone answer Strider’s question about the precedent of decoration on the side of the legs?

    • admin April 11, 2013, 8:22 PM

Lisa, in regards to the printing on the side of the legs, no, it is not the first time LEGO has done this. It is still a pretty rare occurence in regular sets, but many of the collectible minifigures do have leg-printing on the side; like the cheer-leader in the blue uniform, the cave woman, the boxer, the Hamlet guy, the conquistador, the Aztec warrior, the surfer guy, and many others. 🙂

      • Strider April 12, 2013, 11:32 AM

Whoops, I must not have been wearing my thinking cap 🙂

      • Fikko3107 April 12, 2013, 12:06 PM

You know, I am about to write a post about book collecting. How odd is it that this appears here? (Not really odd.)

Being a fan of LEGO books, particularly the DK ones, I’ve got to get this. This, the batman visual dictionary, the harry potter character encyclopedia and the ideas book is all I need!

        • admin April 12, 2013, 12:46 PM

Yeah, the DK books are really excellent. The quality is just unmatched. My contact from DK told me they will have another promotion this summer we can participate in. Which means more free books for contests. My guess is that it will be for this book. 😉

          • Strider April 12, 2013, 1:40 PM

Yes, woohoo, yippee. Bring out the confetti the balloons the ice cream 🙂 yayyy 🙂

        Same here. I don’t speak… whatever

      • Jinny August 29, 2013, 3:22 PM

Also lost in letters from this reply though I’m Russian and know Cyrillic..
Probably, he wasn’t sure in delivery and the language of the book is confusing for him. ^_^

  • Mauro October 14, 2013, 5:56 AM

I bought the book from several months. I can say that is a good book. It’s well did with many details and awesome quality. Also it includes one exclusive minifig. to add at your collection. I am very satisfied. I suggest it at all lover of lego minifig.
