You have probably read the news and seen the trailer of the upcoming big-screen film simply called The LEGO Movie (see: The LEGO Movie – Coming to Theatres Soon!). The trailer has been playing in theatres as well. I can’t wait! And, there is more! Due to the very enthusiastic response to The LEGO Movie trailer, Warner Brothers decided to start working on another LEGO movie, based on… drum-roll, please… LEGO Ninjago! 🙂
The screenplay for the LEGO Ninjago movie will be written by the brothers Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman. They have also worked on The LEGO Movie and the Ninjago animated series for Cartoon Network. Although not much detail is available on the upcoming Ninjago movie, here is Jason from the BrickShow summarizing what is known.
Awesome, isn’t it? I expect the LEGO Ninjago movie to do really well as Ninjago has been a huge success for LEGO – both the sets and the animated series on Cartoon Network. I guess we will have lots of Ninjago goodness starting next year with the continuation of the animated series, new sets, and the movie! Ninjago fans should be very excited! 🙄

Hm… that’s a very good question. I think it is going to be both, but I could be wrong. Or perhaps we will get the new episodes next year, and the movie in 2015? That was Ninjago would be stretched out to two more years. 😛
*Sniffle* I miss Bionicle. If this is real, this makes it the second physical theme to be made into a movie. Yep, I miss Bionicle.

I’m pretty sure someone in the past have ever said something like “I don’t believe they could ever shut down Bionicle. It’s like the most popular LEGO theme ever.” Reality? It did got “Shut Down”. So I wouldn’t get your hopes up…
Most themes get shut down constantly, and the evergreens regularly get revamped.
The interesting thing about Bionicle though that even though it was popular, by the last year it was still in production they stores couldn’t even give away the sets for free. There was a generation that grew up on Bionicle who was getting older and the new generation just didn’t get into it. That’s why it was stopped.
LEGO didn’t want to make the same mistake with Ninjago, so they stopped it at the hight of its popularity. But it was still too popular so now they are trying to bring it back. So one was stopped too late, the other too early. Maybe one day they will get it right.
But to their defense; making decisions like this is not easy. You just can’t predict the best timing to get in and out of the market. There are just so many variables. If we could, we would all be getting rich in the stock-market. 😉

Maybe I am too old, but I don’t understand the appeal of Bionicle compared to other constraction ball joint-based themes – primarily Hero Factory. From my personal viewpoint it seems to be mostly the same thing (although it could be compared to how “Star Wars” is ‘mostly the same thing’ as “Space”, or “Lord of the Rings” is ‘mostly the same thing’ as “Castle”).
Is it the nostalgia, the complex storyline, or what?
Also, Ninjago is actually one out of nine of System- and Conflict-based sets currently under production; Castle, Chima, Lone Ranger, LOTR, Ninjago, Space/ Galaxy Squad, Star Wars, Super Heroes, TMNT – so its long-term fate would still be a matter of debate…
Bionicle was arguably more renowned as a story, then the sets. The story was just so thick and compelling that it drove sets to great extents. Think of it as a licensed theme, only it was created by LEGO themselves. And yes, Bionicle holds a very special place in the hearts of many TFOLs and young AFOLs worldwide…

Hakan, I’m not the best person to tell you about the appeal of Bionicle. Ask Fikko – he is the expert. I do know however that it has been a very popular theme. In fact I read in a LEGO publication that in Russia it was the most popular LEGO theme ever. It had to do more with the story than the sets. But again; ask Fikko.
As far as bringing back Ninjago, it is somewhat of a gamble as kids are very fickle and they grow up fast. Something they liked two years ago may no longer appeal to them at all. We shall see… the toy-market is a really interesting and highly volatile area. That is one of the reasons why so many toy makers (including LEGO) are piggypacking on popular movie franchises. It is safer. 😎

Can’t say I’m surprised. Ninjago was a very successful theme. Season 4 will probably run fron November 2013 to sometime in Spring 2014. Then the movie will be released November 2014. That’s usually how it works. As far as how long Ninjago will be around, I’d say until 2016. It has two more good years left, but no theme lasts forever. Bionicle lasted 10 years. It’s the 5th longest lasting theme, right behind Star Wars, Space, Castle, and City. What I really want to know is how much longer Chima will last. I’m still afraid that their won’t be a wave 3 in January 2014. 🙁
I hope you are right (in regards to Ninjago). As far as Chima, we shall see. I think we will know how popular it can become once we see the effect of the TV series. Based on that LEGO may decide to contine the theme, or not. I’m not sure how does that work though; can they cancel a theme, or just stop production and try to sell the sets they already have in stock with gradually decreasing prices.
There are two things I can tell you from personal experience and they are kind of contradictory; at my local stores Chima sets are just sitting on the shelves. I don’t know if this is the result of people not buying or having a huge overstock. On the other hand here at TBB our most visited pages have been Chima releated ever since the theme came out. Right about the same as Ninjago. So it gives at least some indication that the theme must be popular with someone. In regards to all internet searches (not just our website) 6 times more people search for Ninjago than Chima. Chima has the same number of global searches as LEGO Lord of the Rings. However locally (meaning USA alone) more than twice as many people search for Lord of the Rings – meaning; Chima looks to be more popular in other countries. 😉

Yeah!!! Bring on the wave of Ninjago!!! I was thinking about the Balance, of how there needs to be the good guys (the Ninja) and the bad guys (the Overlord and Garmadon) but now Garmadon is good and the Overlord is gone… so who’s the bad guy now?
They said in the season 3 finale that the Overlord will be back. And since this talk about Nin-driod’s has started, maybe the Overlord creates an army of Nin-Droids to threaten the ninja and holds Zane’s father as prisoner?

No, nothing yet, and probably we won’t hear anything for another year. They have only decided to start working on a Ninjago movie after the positive reaction to The LEGO Movie traier. That was only a couple of weeks ago.
It’s really exciting to see all of this new ninjago content coming up! I cant wait until we get pictures of the sets and minifigs 🙂

Lego probably won’t shut down Ninjago. I have an explanation! It is the most popular theme ever and shutting it down when it was only in Lego for 2 years? I don’t think so. Other themes such as Star Wars have been going for more than 10 years! And, it’s not the most popular theme in Lego. It’s one of the most popular themes but not the most popular single theme in Lego. And I’m thinking the new Ninjago sets would be released in the summer of 2014 and we would get a peak at them at Toy-Fair in February. The TV show will start on December 18th and probably end somewhere in March. (My guess)

I deffinately want to see this Lego Ninjago movie! I’m all over it! As soon as I find it’s trailer on the internet, i’m gonna mark down dates in my calender! I doubt it. There has not been any trailers in the theater or on the internet and its ALREADY VALENTINES DAY. I saw the LEGO Movie I loved it, but anyways there was no trailer for the Ninjago Movie in that either. So don’t get your hopes up.
What I have heard is that it is going to be sometimes in 2015-16, something like that. So yeah, quite a while from now.

Has anyone besides me noticed that the Lego movie coming in 2017 is probably the ninjago movie? They said the next movie, not necessarily a sequel to The Lego Movie.
There is a sequel to The LEGO Movie coming in 2017. My understanding is that the Ninjago movie will be earlier than that, more like in 2015-16.
Ninjago: The Movie will be released on Sept. 26th 2016
The Lego Movie 2 will be released on May 26th 2017 (Exactly 3 years from now).

^XD IKR, but honestly, some people have secretly found out that he may like Nya. No signs of her liking him, but it looks like they are always together and give each other these looks XD. Also, he seemed kind around that girl who was the master of form in season 5 though she was completely against him XD, forget which episode number but I know it’s called Ninja Roll, you can find out in by clicking on my name to take you to a link to watch all season 5 episodes but one, bummer. I don’t know, but I’m kind of hoping for him to find himself someone, it would be funny and kind of interesting to see how he would treat a girl he loves.
