You may remember that on one of The LEGO Movie posters (pictured below) there is a sweet little LEGO Classic Space style spaceship in the background. As we have discussed in a previous article (see: The LEGO Movie – Benny’s SPACESHIP!), several LEGO fans have tried to reverse-engineer the ship just by studying the image on the poster. ๐
One recreation of the small LEGO spaceship that looks really close to the original was built by Peter Morris, and I shared a picture of it before in the same article mentioned above. Since then Peter has been getting requests for the building-steps of the ship, so he recently uploaded pictures that you can follow along with and build your own spaceship.
This little spaceship is an excellent representation of LEGO Classic Space, and a perfect companion to the #70816 LEGOย Benny’s Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! set. If you would like to build your own, you can follow the steps at Peter’s flickr gallery here: LEGO Spaceship Building Steps
Peter notes that this is simply his interpretation of the spaceship based on the limited data available on the movie-poster. He is not sure how the actual model was put together (it might be worth asking Mark Stafford, as reportedly he was the original designer). Also, some colors of the model may vary from the original – this is especially true for the windshield, which is not available in trans-yellow… unfortunately. And if you don’t have it already, you can check out Benny’s Spaceship at the Online LEGO Shop.
So what do you think? Are you planning to build this small LEGO Classic Spaceship? Are you a LEGO Classic Space fan? Or did The LEGO Movie start or revive your interest in LEGO Classic Space? Would you like to have the theme come back with more sets than just Benny’s Spaceship and the LEGO Exo Suit set? Feel free to share in the comment section below! ๐

I’m just gonna say it: SPACESHIP!! ๐
Sighh… This makes me want the Exo-suit more. But I have found a problem: What about the shipping cost? I’m rather pressed for money, so I don’t want to pay extra. And there’s no chance of getting it in-store. ๐
Yeah, shipping is on top. Maybe Amazon will carry it as well where you get free shipping over $35. Does that help? Otherwise LEGO has a $75 minimum to get free shipping.
I can’t order from Amazon, though that would be better. I just checked Lego Shop, the estimated shipping fee was $6.95. I could afford that. I also could buy 79003 at the same time, and get free shipping. ๐
Anyways, tomorrow I’m leaving on my mission trip to West Virginia, so I’m going to miss a week’s worth of news. ๐ Let’s hope they don’t reveal anything, like the Hobbit sets. ๐
Fancy that, the moderation filter is wishing me good-bye. ๐ ๐
LOL! I saw that! Quite a coincidence! ๐
Have a fun and safe trip! We will be here when you get back. Next week there is going to be a contest, and I will also be publishing my review and tweaks on the Exo Suit. I’m looking forward to year your opinion on that one. There is also a really interesting video coming up. And will also be reviewing a custom LEGO set I got recently that looks really interesting. But you can read all of that when you get back. ๐
what contest?
Classic space is awesome!
My uncle have me all his Space stuff. I have red, white and yellow Space minifigs.
Thats, cool My uncle kept all is Lego’s in a box and then one day he found the box and it had all all this classic space and moon baseplates most of his minifigs were all the classic 2 eyes with smile.
Lucky, my dad and uncle didn’t like legos ๐
This is really cool! Thanks for posting the instructions – we’ll have to give it a try at home.
Colin, have fun! ๐
In the LEGO Movie: Everything is Awesome Edition, a behind-the-scenes video shows the windshield in trans-yellow!
Are you serious?! Like in a real LEGO creation, or is it just a picture? I would LOVE to have that windshield in trans-yellow! ๐
I saw a Weeping Angel in the LEGO Movie. Is that a reference to possible Dr. Who sets coming out anytime soon?
(In David Tennants voice;) “Focus, concentrate, listen, I NEED you to tell me where you saw it now.” (Commence sonic screwdriver scanning.) But back to reality, I think the directors are just funn people who wanted to put a reference in.
Hm… now that is really interesting…
Okay, the Doctor Who related comment, was written by me, it’s just that legotrooper was signed in already and I didn’t see it. (David Tennants voice again;),”I’m sorry, I’m so so sorry.”
