Around this time of the year rumors begin circulating about the 2015 LEGO sets. We have discussed practically all upcoming sets a few days ago (see: 2015 LEGO Sets News & Rumors…), but there is one set that was not on the list; the 2015 LEGO Modular Building. Don’t get too excited, I don’t have any concrete information yet, however rumors on next year’s LEGO Modular Building are starting to get solidified. So let’s talk about this. 🙂
As you probably know, the LEGO Modular Buildings are highly popular with collectors. So far there has been nine sets released in the series – one set each year. The LEGO Modular Buildings are all in the price range of $150-$200, can be interconnected and configured in different ways, and are highly detailed minifigure-size buildings suitable both for play and display. Here is a list of all LEGO Modular Buildings for your reference:
- #10190 LEGO Modular Market Street – released in 2007 – RETIRED
- #10182 LEGO Modular Cafe Corner – released in 2007 – RETIRED
- #10185 LEGO Modular Green Grocer – released in 2008 – RETIRED
- #10197 LEGO Modular Fire Brigade – released in 2009 – RETIRED
- #10211 LEGO Grand Emporium – released in 2010 – AVAILABLE
- #10218 LEGO Modular Pet Shop – released in 2011 – AVAILABLE
- #10224 LEGO Modular Town Hall – released in 2012 – AVAILABLE

- #10243 LEGO Parisian Restaurant – released in 2014 – AVAILABLE
As far as the 2015 LEGO Modular Building, there has been rumors circulating for some time now that it will be a Police Station or Detective Agency, and recently a member at the Brickset forum by the name Paperballpark stated that he has been informed by a reliable source (which usually means that the person works for LEGO) that the next LEGO Modular Building is indeed going to be a Detective Agency, will be available on January 1st 2015, and the price will be £132.99. Please still treat this information as a rumor as there is no official information available about the set, however at least the price and the release date sound right and are in line with previous sets in the series.
There is no information on how the set will look like, however it is reasonable to believe that the Detective Agency will be more Sherlock Holmes style rather than the modern LEGO City Police and high-tech LEGO Ultra Agents sets. An old-fashioned Detective Agency would match the look and feel of the other LEGO Modular Buildings better. It is also expected that the building will include other sections; perhaps an apartment or small shop. The building could even be split, like the #10218 LEGO Modular Pet Shop – that would be nice, don’t you think?
I couldn’t find a good example of a fan-created LEGO Modular Detective Agency, however there are a couple of LEGO Modular Police Stations listed on LEGO Ideas that are pretty nice. I guess their chances of becoming an official LEGO set are going to vaporize if the rumor about the LEGO Modular Detective Agency indeed proves to be true. Anyhow, here is one of the projects that I liked by LEGO fan ezzkazz.
As I have mentioned the LEGO Modular Detective Agency is still a rumor, but it is certainly exciting and fun to talk about. I’m sure more information will be available within the next couple of months. In the meantime you can check out the current selection of LEGO Modular buildings at the Online LEGO Shop. They are a little hard to find as they don’t have their own category, but they are listed under the LEGO Creator section and the Hard to Find section of the Online LEGO Shop.
The next LEGO Modular Building set that will be retired is the #10211 LEGO Modular Grand Emporium, so if you are planning to collect the series, I would get that one first. I have also heard rumors that the #10224 LEGO Modular Town Hall may be retired early as that seems to be one of the least favored sets due to the higher price and lack of interesting details. And as far as which one is the best LEGO Modular Building set, I would vote for the #10243 LEGO Modular Parisian Restaurant – it is such a sweet building and so full of details, you can’t go wrong with it!
So what do you think? Do you collect the LEGO Modular Buildings? Or are you planning to? Which one is your favorite so far? And what do you think of the LEGO Modular Detective Agency? Any ideas on how it might look like? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

I hope its a police station not a detective agency
I hope it’s a Detective Agency and not a police station. I already have 2 police stations LOL. But yeah whatever it is, I’ll be excited to see it.
How would they make a detective agency interesting looking?
Architecture – if it’s Sherlock Holmes style, it would be an older building with outside character and a very decorated interior.
this could be really cool. if it is Sherlock Holmes themed I think I will buy it.
Yeah, I agree, If it’s Sherlock Holmes style it would definitely be on my list!
I really like this series now and will probably buy it no matter what it is. I was slow to get started on these big “modulars,” partly because of the price and my Lego addition hadn’t fully kicked-in yet. Now the “kicking” is me kicking myself for not buying Market Street, Cafe, and Green Grocer when I had the chance!
A few years ago Wal-Mart was clearing out some of the the 2009-2011 sets, and this is what pushed me over the edge, because once they were 20-25% off, I just couldn’t resist (Amazon matched for a short time as well). So it was a good time to get into the modulars. Now that I’ve got a few, I figure I better keep the streak going.
I like the idea of the Sherlock Holmes-era detective office; It would probably be a smaller office, so it may be a 1/2 and 1/2 as you suggested. Police would be OK too if done in a good theme. I thought the Fire House was done pretty well, so a companion Police building could complement it nicely. I agree there are plenty of Police buldings in the other series, but I expect if they did one for modulars, it would be completely different, and now I’m kind-of excited about what it might be next year.
Oops, I meant to say “Lego Addiction” not “addition” — on the other have thought I might need to build an “addition” on the house to keep all these!
Yeah, a slip of the tongue (or in this case fingers) could be a sign from the Universe. 😉
I got back into Lego after an off season too late for a number of the modular’s as well. I’m sure one day I’ll be willing to drop the money for the sets I missed and may end up missing, but probably not until I live somewhere where I have more room. The two 3 that I absolutely must get are Parisian Restaurant, Palace Cinema, and Grand Emporium.
Peter, I know a lot of collectors feel bad that they were not able to get the original sets, but at least in my opinion the newer ones are much better, especially the interiors. Personally I gave up the idea of being a completists about them and just go for the ones I really like. Yes, the Fire Station is very nicely done. The police station/decetive agency could very well be in a similar style. We shall see soon enough. 😉
I’m excited for the next modular building, I think that a detective agency would fit quite well in the Modular neighborhood. I’d also like to see a modular hospital or maybe a train station sometime in the near future.
A detective Agency? Well, at least it’s better than a police station. But a detective agency will not be a big one for me, I think. I’m trying to get the Parisian Restaurant, which will be my first modular. But why do all the good sets have to be so expensive these days?
Also, I’m hoping it’s a corner building, since that will complete a 4×3 setup of the modulars I’ve started on LDD. I don’t know, but perhaps a large gateway would be better that a detective office. 😉
Oh, a large gateway would be a great idea! I don’t think it will happen, but it would allow access to the inside of the connected sets. I guess we just have to build it on our own. And yes, the Parisian Restaurant is very-very sweet. I’m planning to get it next month when the double VIP points offer kicks in. 🙂
If I had the money I’d get it next month too, because I want that Elf house Christmas Special that will be available. But I might get the Exo suit and the Unexpected Gathering if the suit restocks and the latter goes on sale.
a detective agency would be good but a hospital would be nice to maybe next year who knows ??
As of now I only have a Grand Emporium but I will get the other modulars. If the rumors are true this is particulary exciting.
I grudgingly purchased Town Hall because I’m a completist. Parisian Restaurant is absolutely charming—and shows a lovely progression in the series. However, the modular set most special to me is Cafe Corner. I still remember the sense of awe and thrill I felt when I first laid eyes on it. I have never recaptured that feeling.
Yeah, the modulars can do that to you; fill you with awe and thrill, and we all have our favorites. Mine is the Parisian, but I know a lot of people feel the same way about Cafe Corner as you do. I hope LEGO will continue producing excellent sets in this series. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
So the Town Hall seems to be retired. The website is sold out I called customer support they are not replenishing them. The Lego stores don’t have them either. I am up in Canada and managed to find one at Toys R Us – everyone else is sold out. I had been trying to decide whether or not to get it but I like ‘lithe’ am a completest and had to go for it.
That would be really-really surprizing as the set is not even two years old and modulars usually stay around for four years. And the sad thing is right now I’m hearing from all these people panicking that they can’t find one. I’m glad you were able to locate one. I believe you won’t regret it. I just built it myself and like it very much. It looks especially nice next to the Parisian Restaurant as it has a similar style. 🙂
Wow..! So Town Hall is gone before the older Pet Shop?? I guess I’d better get Palace Cinema soon then. PC appeals to me more than TH, but doesn’t resonate with me the way Parisian Restaurant does. I’m not trying to knock TH, but it just doesn’t feel as mature as some of the other sets in the series even though it is chockfull of details. I’m not sure why.
My favorite is also the Parisian, then The Town Hall, then the Pet Shop. I don’t care for the Palace Cinema or the Grand Emporium. Like you mentioned; it is not like I think they are bad, it is just that they don’t resonate with me the way the others do. It is perfectly all-right to just get the ones you like. 😉
Most of the Modulars are around for four years. That has always been the case. The early retirement of the Town Hall is very unusual. But I did hear rumors it didn’t sell as well. The price is significantly higher and it is not the most exciting in the series. I think LEGO learned it’s lesson to keep the price around $150-$160 and make them more interesting. The upcoming Detective Agency sounds very interesting though! It is a split building with a alleyway in the middle – at least that’s what I heard! 😛
I didn’t start collecting these until after the Green Grocer retired but was able to get one for 500 on ebay 2 years ago and am so glad I did. It’s one of the real gems of the series. I’ve given up on Cafe as it now goes for over a grand and plans to bricklink proved that I’m not the most computer literate. lol
I managed to get the Fire Brigade, Grand Emporium, Pet Shop, and Palace Cinema at a Lego Store, but went with the Cinema instead of the Town Hall for the simple reason that I figured Lego would continue to retire them in order and that I would have more time.
I bet I’m not alone in this wrong assumption. Then again, maybe I passed on the Town Hall because it didn’t WOW me like most of the others, as some of the other posters have mentioned.
The completist in me want to get the TH, but I have a feeling that the Detective Agency is going to spectacular given how this line continues to improve.
Yeah, it has been a real shock for many people that the Town Hall is no longer available. Since these are expensive sets (especially the TH), people often space them out and save up for them. I wouldn’t be surprized if they would do another run due to the demand. But maybe not. There is a reason the set was retired early. Personally I really like it, but it is certainly not the most exciting set in the series. And yes, Green Grocer is a beauty! I have actually considered turning the apartment section of the Petshop into a mini Green Grocer. It has a similar design (although much smaller), so I think it would look cute. 🙂
Yes Town Hall is gone…I won’t pay the crazy prices for the two I missed out on. Corner Café and Green Grocer but so far I have the rest other than Palace Cinema and Parisian Café. I have to spread out those purchases as we also want the Star Wars Sand Crawler UCS. I did find a Town Hall MISB on Kijii for $200 so in the end I made out ok on this set (considering here in Canada it was $259 plus tax to a total tune of $293.78)

It is indeed going to be the Detective’s Office. Coming up in January.
Alice, this was an earlier article. We have discussed the Detective’s Office in detail already. See here: http://thebrickblogger.com/2014/11/lego-detectives-office-pictures-video/
I think it’s time they create, for example, a High School.
I wish to you all a very good new year.
Artur
I would really like a high-school for sure! Nice idea! 🙂
