LEGO turtles – contest winners & poster!

You might remember the LEGO building contest over at Eurobricks titled Turtle Insanity! Turtle Building Contest that we talked about a few months ago (see: LEGO Exo Suit – All About the Turtle). The contest was inspired by the turtle in the #21109 LEGO Ideas Exo Suit set, and the winners were just announced a few days ago. I highly recommend that you check out all the entries as they are very creative and lots of fun! ๐Ÿ™‚

LEGO Turtle Contest at EuroBricks

For the contest all you had to do was build a LEGO turtle based on any non-licensed LEGO theme. The judges for this contest were no other than Peter Reid – the original creator of the LEGO Exo Suit, Mark Stafford – the LEGO Designer who created the final model, and Karen Frost Sรธrensen – Project Manager of LEGO Ideas. So yeah, the bar was set high! Winners of the contest received a signed copy of the LEGO Exo Suit set, and some of the models were also included on a poster produced by LEGO to commemorate the event. Check it out below!

LEGO Turtle Contest

Cute, isn’t it? Copies are sent to all contest participants whose turtle appears on the poster, and it will also be handed out at the Fan Weekend in Skรฆrbรฆk, Denmark to registered visitors. This is one of those very rare and exclusive LEGO posters that collectors would love to have! I would keep an eye out for them on eBay: LEGO POSTERS ON EBAY

I really like the first-place winner of the contest; a turtle in the form of the original and iconic wooden LEGO toys! Such a brilliant and well-executed idea! And I was sure that the second place winner with the turtle skeleton will be one of the finalists! It is so sad, yet so fun! What about you? Did you participate in the contest? How do you like the entries and the winners? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Nice, all of them! ๐Ÿ˜€ I see third is a classic-spacey turtle. ๐Ÿ™‚
So, slightly off-topic, the Exo-suit is coming to the US in October? I hope it stays in stores longer this time, so I can actually get one.
Also, does anyone have more info on when Eps. 33 & 34 of Ninjago are on (in the US, of course)?

    • admin September 24, 2014, 3:23 PM

Well, there has been official information that the Exo Suit will be back in September, and it wasn’t. So now they are talking about October, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. Even if they bring it back for a second run, I doubt it will be around for very long. So many people have been waiting for it. Targer and TRU has been listing some for $5 more than the standard price. I suggest to get one of those, even if it is a bit more expensive. At least it is not at eBay prices!

I have been so out of touch with the official release of Ninjago episodes as I got tired of waiting. I just watch the on YouTube.

Well, how come the rest of the world gets it and we (being US and Canada) don’t?! It’s so unfair, especially as I’m not one of those fanatics that wait until midnight to get 2 or 3 of them the moment it becomes available! ๐Ÿ˜ฅ I know I’m complaining, and I should have known I was never gonna get it. ๐Ÿ˜• Still, I guess it’s good for my savings.
Yeah, I’m tired of waiting for Ninjago too. I want to see it on TV, but I don’t know why. After all, I got into Ninjago watching the episodes on Youtube. ๐Ÿ˜•

Re-seller price on Amazon isn’t as hiked up as it was for the Research Institute. I’ll probably bite the bullet and get it from a re-seller.

that’s cool, I need to enter myself in more contests. I may not win, but I have a better chance at it then not doing it at all. ๐Ÿ˜€

Do any of you guys have any sets with the new spring loaded launchers? If so, I wanted to ask how good they are. Do they have the size of flick missiles but the power of one of the old technic launchers or is it as weak as the flick missiles but it doesn’t come off when you try to activate it? Or is it even worse than the flick missiles?

    • admin September 24, 2014, 8:55 PM

I have them. There are two on Benny’s Spaceship. Those spring-loaded missiles are absolutely powerful. In fact I honestly don’t know how they got approved, as they are not only powerful but also more pointy than the Technic launchers (Benny’s Spaceship has two of those too, plus two flick fires – yeah, armed to the teeth!). So yes, the spring loaded launchers are very powerful and can fly accross the room, or up to the ceiling if you aim ot upwards. They also easily get launched by accident, so I had to put a clip at the back end because they kept firing on their own. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

      • BLProductions September 24, 2014, 9:07 PM

Ah, so Technic launchers are these? http://brickset.com/parts/6064131
You know, the instructions to these sets say to remove the shooters, and keep them removed unless you are playing with it. That is supposes to make sure that accidents don’t happen. I ignore that, of course. ๐Ÿ˜• Attaching clips is a great idea, though. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • BLProductions September 24, 2014, 8:59 PM

I have one set, the #75039 V-wing Fighter. I would say they are pretty good, as they are easier to fire than flick missiles. The shooter-piece is 8 studs long, and (though I don’t know anything about the old Technic launchers) they fire very far, close on 5 feet. My biggest problem is that when handling the craft the shooters are on, they tend to fire unexpectedly, which can lead to losing them. Other than that, they’re very cool, and resemble real laser shots nicely on SW sets. ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you’re looking for something that shoots well, the spring loaded things are great! They’re surprisingly strong, like admin said, and make a nice ting! when shot into glass (that was an accident, of course!). ๐Ÿ˜› As a matter of fact, I’ve several times been concerned about loosing them! I’d say they’re even stronger than the technic launchers.
They do sometimes fire when not intended, so I’ve learned to keep my fingers away from that part of the set! I have them in the X-1 Charger, where they’ve shot Kai in the back of the head a couple times, and in the $30 Agents set (black and trans light blue car/hovering vehicle), where the shooting section closes, so then at least they don’t go anywhere.

It is possible to “fire” them without letting them go anywhere though, if you keep your finger down too long. And, being used to Flick-fires, it took me a while to figure out how to work them!

LOL! I’m goint to try that shooting into glass thing! ๐Ÿ˜ˆ
