#10247 LEGO Creator Ferris Wheel

Many LEGO fans instantly decided to get the LEGO Creator Ferris Wheel as soon as it was first announced, so if you are one of those people, just head over to the Online LEGO Shop to be one of the first persons to get it. If you are still not sure if the LEGO Creator Ferris Wheel is for you, we have discussed the set previously (see: LEGO Creator Ferris Wheel Coming Soon!), and I will repeat some of the highlights here for your convenience.

#10247 LEGO Creator Ferris Wheel Overview

Here is the official description of the set: Experience the wonderful LEGO Creator Ferris Wheel! This LEGO Creator Expert model has an iconic elegance that evokes feelings of nostalgia, romance and adventure. The carnival has come to town and the ice-cream vendor is busy serving a long queue of excited customers as they await their first ride on the magical Ferris Wheel that towers above the fairground. Slowly turn the crank and watch as the Ferris Wheel gracefully lowers the colorful gondolas into position for boarding. Raise the boarding platform with a simple pull of the lever, open the gondola door and help the passengers aboard! Have fun building this elegant model with an authentic charm and magic that will capture your imagination. You can also motorize the Ferris Wheel with the #8883 LEGO Power Functions Medium Motor and #88000 LEGO Power Functions AAA Battery Box (not included).

  • Includes 10 minifigures: a ride operator, ice-cream vendor, 4 children and 4 adults
  • Features a Ferris Wheel ticket kiosk, ice-cream stall, a bench and assorted flower and tree elements
  • Ferris Wheel features decorative elements, ramps, boarding platform and 12 colorful gondolas with opening doors
  • Includes an amazing 2464 LEGO elements
  • Accessory elements include a pretzel, balloon, 2 ice-cream cones and an ice-cream scoop
  • Turn the crank and watch the Ferris Wheel turn
  • Motorize the Ferris Wheel with the #8883 LEGO Power Functions Medium Motor and #88000 LEGO Power Functions AAA Battery Box (not included)
  • Ferris Wheel measures over 23โ€ (60cm) high, 21โ€ (55cm) wide and 14โ€ (38cm) deep

As you can see above, the LEGO Creator Ferris Wheel can be turned by hand, or you can also motorize it. I actually like the hand-cranking option better as it has such a satisfactory action and motion. But if you want to motorize it, the link to the LEGO Power Function elements is listed above. In the designer-video below you can watch Jamie Berard introducing the set.

The LEGO Creator Ferris Wheel is one of those sets that can be incorporated into an existing LEGO City diorama, but it can also stand on its own as a beautiful and fun centerpiece in a room or office. It’s big, it’s colorful, and it’s sophisticated – all the best aspects of LEGO combined! I expect this set to be a huge hit with both dedicated LEGO hobbyists, casual LEGO fans, and even those who are not really into LEGO but like functional toys and unusual dรฉcor. We will post a full review on the set later, but there is really nothing negative that can be said about it. This is a winner!

Looks like it’s already out of stock and not available until the end of May.

They always do this with new releases to slow down the furry of activity on new sets and make sure they don’t disappoint anyone. You can still order the set however and very likely it will ship much faster then what is stated. I have ordered like this many times and I the set always shipped within 1-3 days even when it said a later date. Again, this is just to make sure they can handle all the orders and to prepare shoppers for the possibility of some delay. The earlier you order the less likely you will encounter delays. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Does anyone know how tall it stands? I’m wondering how it would like next to my skyscrapers…it’s huge! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • admin May 13, 2015, 3:33 PM

Andy, it is almost 24 inches tall, so yeah, it is huge! ๐Ÿ˜€

      • BLProductions May 13, 2015, 5:48 PM

Huw on Brickset said it was about 60cm, which is a little less than: 24in x 2.54 = 60.96cm. Pretty big. Side note: it’s 2 inches taller than MetalBeard’s Sea Cow, so if you have that you can compare to it. ๐Ÿ™‚

LOL! That’s funny! But yeah, you can sing when you sign up for VIP. ๐Ÿ˜€

          • BLProductions May 13, 2015, 10:05 PM

Did you mean to say “sing up” again? ๐Ÿ˜‰ I do agree though, you can sing for joy that you will get access to special stuff. ๐Ÿ™‚

            • admin May 14, 2015, 12:05 PM

LOL! My fingers are hopeless today! ๐Ÿ˜€

      • LegoGeekOffical May 14, 2015, 1:41 PM

That is pretty big for a set, but I have made much bigger MOCs.
Also I am working on a minifigure scale Stark Tower (4ft tall or more)!

        • admin May 14, 2015, 3:12 PM

Yes, MOCs, can be built as big as you want. Official LEGO sets however have to stop somewhere otherwise nobody but a few people could afford them. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • BLProductions May 13, 2015, 5:43 PM

My brother called this, but I really want to get it, so I think I’ll help him get it (or maybe not… there’s still a Parisian Restaurant to get…). I especially like the trees, and some of the minifigs. But as for parts: so many good ones! Not to mention 5 16X16 and 2 8X16 plates, which would be useful for large MOCs. My only complaint is the gondolas’ color scheme. Something is off, but I can’t pinpoint what. Maybe change the yellow to orange? ๐Ÿ˜•
Also, 1 typo, 1st part: “You can sign up here.” Not sing. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Also again, Mixels Series 5 is on Lego.com: http://www.lego.com/en-us/mixels/products/series-5 Some are starting to look more interesting. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • admin May 13, 2015, 6:56 PM

I have heard other people complain about the colors too. I personally really like it; kind of looks like a big flower. But it is true that most Ferris Wheels use brighter primary colors.

      • Kim May 13, 2015, 8:07 PM

I like the colors as well.

        • Hรฅkan May 15, 2015, 6:18 AM

Some discussion of this at Brickset. 6×6 dishes are rare, so it was suggested there might have been some limitations on which colors to use (although they still seem to appear in new colors, so it might not be a valid argument).

          • admin May 15, 2015, 8:46 AM

While that’s a good observation, I don’t think that was a limitation. I think the color scheme is very nicely thought out and looks beautiful. I know Huw (from Brickset) changed his to include some red gondolas. I don’t like it. I think it is perfect as it is. But if someone wants to change the colors they could.

How wide is the base of the ferris wheel ( the green base plates put together?)

    • admin May 14, 2015, 3:11 PM

The green plates create a 48×48 stud footprint. Hope that helps. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • jjava May 15, 2015, 9:33 AM

    Loves it. Ordered.
