LEGO Ideas WALL-E pictures & details

Another one of the upcoming LEGO Ideas sets were revealed just a few days ago. As you may remember, there are three LEGO Ideas sets that will be available later this year; the #21302 LEGO Ideas The Big Bang Theory that we discussed recently (see link at the end of this post), the LEGO Ideas Doctor Who set (not yet revealed), and the #21303 LEGO Ideas WALL-E set. This last model was originally designed by film-director, animator and screenwriter Angus MacLane, who personally worked on the WALL-E film – and thus the perfect person to design this set! 🙂

#21303 LEGO Ideas WALL-E Box

Angus MacLane submitted his LEGO WALL-E model to LEGO Ideas, and after achieving 10,000 public votes, the model was selected as one of the next LEGO Ideas sets. Just as a side-note, this is not the first time Angus designed a LEGO set. His very innovative and creative brick-built LEGO Star Wars characters called LEGO CubeDudes were released back in 2010 and were available as exclusives at various conventions (see link at the end of this post for more info).

#21303 LEGO Ideas WALL-E Details

Going back to the upcoming LEGO WALL-E, the set captures the film-character perfectly! The neck and eyes can flex, the wrist and hands are movable, and of course the wheels and tracks can rotate. Also, the compartment on the torso can open, just like in the movie, so the little plant can be put inside. I’m hoping that the logo at the front is printed rather than stickered, and I wish LEGO designers gave WALL-E a cooler too! The set will be available in December. The official price is not yet known, but it is listed at €57.99 at this website, which roughly converts to £39.99 in the UK and $39.99 in the US, based on similarly priced sets.

So far the reaction from LEGO and Pixar fans to the LEGO WALL-E set has been overwhelmingly positive, and for a good reason! This is likely going to be one of the most popular LEGO Ideas sets, and I expect that it will fly off the shelves as soon as it becomes available. While we are waiting you can check out the currently available LEGO Ideas sets submitted by LEGO fans at the Online LEGO Shop.

Definitely first day purchase! Can’t wait!

Looks like a Lego that will look great on an office desk. First day purchase? Absolutely. Also, the good news is the Lego Doctor Who set will be revealed soon since Wall•e and the Big Bang Theory sets were revealed not to far apart.

The WALL-E set was not an official reveal, but an accidental leak, so it technically wasn’t revealed yet. I actually waited with this news a few days because LEGO usually either ask websites to take the pictures down, or they come out with an official release right after the leak. But they haven’t done either, so I felt it was safe to post it now. My guess is that both WALL-E and the Big Bang set will be officially revealed at the San Diego Comic Con next month. 🙂

I think there’s something wrong with the currency conversion. £39.99 can never be $39.99, right?

    • Håkan June 17, 2015, 4:01 AM

Well, at the current exchange rate £39.99 equals $62.52 and $39.99 equals £25.58. €57.99 equals £41.79 and $65.37. Then there’s costs for taxes and stuff.

The conversion is not true conversion from one currency to another, but based on LEGO’s pricing model. In general set that are sold for £39.99 in the UK are $39.99 in the USA.

Speaking from the UK it’s usually a straight USD to British pounds conversion. Some of this is tax, but it sucks. Every time I’m in the states on business I tend to load up on sets. Especially as I have colleagues who will take bricklink orders for me until I arrive (given that’s usually a 40% saving for me)

Yeah, I know. It is really crazy the prices you guys pay. The last time I was in Europe was 12 years ago and I was shocked about the prices on everything! 🙁

          • Håkan June 18, 2015, 8:49 AM

I think the US price wasn’t the actual price, but marked without taxes or something, so the actual difference between countries might be slightly less than it appears…

            • admin June 18, 2015, 10:50 AM

Prices in the USA are always listed (for all products, not just LEGO) without sales-tax, because sales-tax is different in every state.

  • Clumsybumsy June 17, 2015, 3:07 PM

That European Union price seems a tad high in comparison to the British and especially the American price. I can get there are some difference due to the fact that markets work different but this price difference might have to make me pass on this set.

    • admin June 17, 2015, 8:20 PM

Yeah, Euro prices are almost always the highest. M y understanding is that this has to do with the extremely high taxes on businesses in Europe.

I’ll definitely be buying two of these, if not three. The wife would like one in her office, I want one for home, but I debating whether or not to get one for my office. Hmmm….

    • admin June 17, 2015, 8:22 PM

Yes, the office definitely needs one. 🙄
