LEGO Nexo Knights more details & picture!

As we discussed previously (see: LEGO Nexo Knights Discussion & More!), there is a LEGO Castle-type theme coming next year called LEGO Nexo Knights. While leaked images have been circulating for a while now, Brickset is the first one who posted an official picture from the back of the latest Australian LEGO Club Magazine. So let’s take a look. 🙂

LEGO Nexo Knights Logo

What we know about the LEGO Nexo Knights theme is that it is a replacement for LEGO Legends of Chima, which indicates that this is going to be a big theme with lots of sets, promotions and most likely a TV show. And while LEGO Legends of Chima was a fantasy-castle theme with animal characters, and LEGO Ninjago is a mix of the modern world with the world of the ninja, LEGO Nexo Knights is also a combination theme with fantasy, castle and even futuristic elements.

LEGO Nexo Knights

As you can see on the image above, the good guys look like LEGO Castle knights, but with some mechanical enhancements and crazy contraptions. Their shield can be used as hover-boards, and their castle is a giant moving fortress on tank-treads. They also use various mechanical contraptions like robo-horses to fight their enemies. The bad guys are devilish red and black creatures, controlled by a madly evil (or evilly mad?) wizard of some sort. I quite like the look of these characters as they remind me of the heroes in the LEGO Universe game. I also appreciate that we are going to get a brave female knight named Macy. Other characters include Robin, Aaron, Lance, Clay, Moltor, Lavaria and Jestro.

LEGO Universe Online Game

Last time I mentioned that there should be six sets in the first wave of LEGO Nexo Knights released in January, but this number now increased to ten (perhaps some of these are promotional or exclusive sets). In addition there are six more sets that are titled “Ultimate”, which either mean a new type of game like the LEGO Ninjago spinners and flyers, or the LEGO Legends of Chima Speedorz, or perhaps some LEGO Constraction Figures.

I have seen preliminary images of some of the sets, and they had a gray, blue and translucent-orange color scheme for the vehicles on the side of the good guys, and black with translucent-orange for the bad guys. I really hope that the knights look as good as on the poster above and not what I have seen on the preliminary images. On the poster they look metallic, mechanical and awesome, while on the set images I have seen they look more like the colorful “rainbow knights” from LEGO Knights Kingdom II theme. Interestingly, in LEGO Knights Kingdom II some of the characters also used their shields as hover-boards; just take a look at the Vladek promotional figure below.

LEGO Knights Kingdom II

All in all I’m looking forward to this theme, especially the characters. It was not exactly what I was hoping for (I would really like a more traditional fantasy based LEGO Castle theme with elves, dwarves, dragons and all, but I understand that might be too close to the current LEGO Elves theme with mini-dolls. Or a real-life like LEGO Castle theme with knights, villagers, monks, etc.), but I liked the heroes in LEGO Universe, and the LEGO Nexo Knights look quite like them, so they are welcome in my kingdom.

What about you? What do you think of LEGO Nexo Knights? Are you looking forward to this theme, or planning to pass on it? Are there any other interesting details you notice on the poster above? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

A few weeks ago, someone who saw the sets decided to sketch them and post the sketches (very rough sketches) on the internet for discussion. Based solely on those sketches, I got the impression these sets would look like a combination of Mixels and Castle. I’m not too keen on that idea.

I’ll reserve judgement until I see the actual set photos. Just as with Chima, there will probably be some that I like, and some that will be ridiculous (to my tastes).

James, I have seen those sketches, and I have also seen actual images of the sets (that the sketches were based on). I’m pretty convinced that they were preliminary images and not the final sets. So yeah, we will have to wait and see how the sets and minifigs actually look like, but based on this poster I’m very hopeful. And yes, it is a pretty crazy mixed theme. Nothing like traditional Castle.

Why can Lego just not revert to bringing back the kingdoms line – by far the best authentic castle line which was on a comparable level as fas as detail to nicer city and modular sets. Remember the medival village, the mill raid or the kingdoms joust? Those will be iconic sets and the demand post retirement is proof of sustainable demand. I for one would like to see more detail and grandness to core castle sets so that they reflect that of hogwarts and the LOTR tower. Anyone agree?

      I certainly do!

I also remember when Lego had a policy of not manufacturing weapons. A lot of modern sets, meanwhile, are becoming more and more aggressive.

I guess it sells. I regret that it now constitutes “play”.

        Rainey,

That policy still in place but only for Lego City

        • rainey October 7, 2015, 5:53 PM

          Ah! I see.

I guess I can confine my purchases but it still makes me sad to take my 5yo grandson into the Lego store and have him seduced by all the militaristic stuff on display.

Well, Lego Castle had weapons already in the 70’s…

            Swords, lances, halberds…

            • Håkan October 8, 2015, 12:15 PM

I think the Indiana Jones license changed the policy for modern, realistic weapons. Before IJ, weapons were only allowed in historical and/ or fantasy settings… Pirates was the first theme allowing guns.

              • rainey October 8, 2015, 1:04 PM

Yup! We had some pirates with pistols back in the 80s. And, of course, the Robin Hood characters had swords and bows even then.

I guess there must be some kind of reason why they go down a little easier in my granny perspective.

Looks like futuristic rubbish. I wont be buying any. At this rate LEGO is going to put me back into my dark age 🙁

  • BLProductions October 7, 2015, 5:25 PM

Looks a little exciting, but having seen this a week ago, I’ve had time to chew on it, and I’m not too excited any more. The castle has the potential to be golden: twin Rapid Shooter, Springies (I think), and lots of big tracks! Other than that, nothing in the theme is interesting for me, excepting some swords and armor (for LotR MOCs). 😕 However, my opinion might change when we get official images. Speaking of which, we should start getting those in the next few weeks, right?

Didn’t even realize that I could use those chest plates for characters and MOCs!

    • admin October 7, 2015, 8:08 PM

LEGO has been getting tighter as far as leaks, but yeah, I would say definitely by next month we should be getting more details and pictures.

  • David Tennant Lover October 7, 2015, 5:58 PM

Just looks…what’s the word…stupid. I didn’t like Chima and I was waiting for something to be replaced by that and this is what I get. I see what they are trying to though. The Medievel themes we have had over years have always been the same so I guess it is good to spice things up. They have done these Medievel type themes to much, maybe they should just discontinue after this one.

    That jester looks cool though.

  • Hammer October 7, 2015, 7:23 PM

Not interested. I’m more of a traditionalist when it comes to medieval themed Legos and I still miss the Kingdoms line.

    • admin October 7, 2015, 8:09 PM

Yeah, this is definitely not for traditional Castle fans. Hopefully we will get normal Castle sometime in the future. I miss it too. 🙁

  • insectoid19 October 7, 2015, 9:19 PM

The name of the theme sounds very cheesy and silly to me, but I like the theme itself. The characters are pretty cool!

  • Ashton6460 October 7, 2015, 11:35 PM

I’m pretty excited for this theme. Chima was a little disappointing IMHO, but this looks very promising!

  • MidnightSwim October 8, 2015, 1:56 PM

Honestly this is rubbish. It’s so sad to see that Lego needs to design these ridiculous sci-fi Knights in order to attract kids. This is horrible, just like Chima . I wish they just would bring back traditional Castle themes and stick with it, with sci-fi welcomed additions: dwarfs, dragons, etc. in other words classics. Won’t be buying any of this.

    • Håkan October 8, 2015, 2:48 PM

      That’s not sci-fi… That’s fantasy… (By general criteria…)

      • Håkan October 8, 2015, 2:49 PM

        Dwarfs and dragons, I mean…

Pictures of two of the sets have surfaced:

I’m not a huge fan of the theme and particularly the good-guy colorscheme, but I’ll admit that some of the figs look really good, albeit not particularly useful. Possibly I’ll end up picking up a smaller set or two, depending of course on what on earth they look like.

    • admin October 8, 2015, 4:11 PM

Yes, we will talk about those pictures as well as the trailers and other info tomorrow. So hold your thought. 😉

      • TheBrickLot October 8, 2015, 5:37 PM

These tweets LEGO posted are awesome. “…point out that these knights are from the same type of knight in classic castle: the wolves, the black falcons, the dragons. I am not sure if the horses were one, but that is one as well, I can’t see the emblem for the big-fig guy though. If you are wondering were these emblems are they are in the center of their armor.”
