LEGO Rad Robots 1980! and LEGO Arcade Machines 1980! are two projects on LEGO Ideas by LEGO fan BreaksBricks. The projects themselves are great, but what I really like is video featuring them both. It is one of the smoothest LEGO stop-motion video I have seen. You can watch the video below, and there is also a bit more info about the LEGO Ideas projects. 🙂
BreakBricks shares on their YouTube channel: “When I was a kid in the 1980’s I became obsessed with arcade games like Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, and Q-bert. This LEGO brickfilm is inspired by my love of the music, toys and video games from that era.” The two robots are based on the Tomy Omnibot and Omnibot Jr. – remote control programmable toys from the 1980’s. Both were considered very advanced when they were first released.
Great stop-motion video, isn’t it? And really good use of those printed 1×1 round eye pieces to give the robots expressions. Both the robots and the arcade machines are listed on LEGO Ideas. The LEGO Arcade Machines 1980! project includes an arcade machine with joystick control, an arcade machine with wheel control, an arcade machine with two stools for seated playing, a classic change machine with dollar slot and coin-tray, and a classic gumball machine filled with 1×1 round plate gumballs. Unfortunately this project already expired so it’s not possible to vote for it, however you can use the pictures as inspiration to make your own arcade machines.
The LEGO Rad Robots 1980! project by BreaksBricks includes two robots with posable arms and body rotation, and a couple of printed tiles for the front control panels. This project still has some time left, so if you like it, you can still vote (just click on the link above). If LEGO Ideas projects reach a minimum of 10,000 votes, LEGO will consider producing them as official LEGO sets. To see the currently available LEGO Ideas sets originally submitted by LEGO fans visit the LEGO Ideas section of the the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.
So what do you think? How did you like the video? And what about the robots and the arcade machines? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below! 😉

Great video! Very well done. I like the robots too. Happy long weekend!
Happy long weekend to you too! 😀
Pretty sweet. Creative and not humongously oversized. I’d like to see more Ideas projects like this.
Agree. Small, creative, fun. A good match for the LEGO Ideas line.
I could spend ALL day on the Lego Ideas page. It’s fun to see new ideas, but I get so intimidated by their creativity. Lol
Michelle, yeah, browsing the LEGO Ideas site is fun! There is no need to be intimidated though. Everyone starts out by building simple models. But as you gain experience, you will get better and better. One thing that really helps is that as you put together official LEGO sets according to the instructions, pay attention to the building techniques. You will start noticing how the techniques are used as you build more sets. Then gradually you can start experimenting with using interesting techniques yourself. And it is also perfectly possible to build a beautiful model using just simple techniques. So just keep practicing, and you will get better both at building and creativity. 🙂
Now I realize that the Omnibot has a short cameo in Sigue Sigue Sputnik’s 1980’s video “21st Century Boy”.
