October is the beginning of LEGO and other retailers gearing up for the holiday season, so there are a number of specials and promotions you can take advantage of. Below we will take a look at everything that LEGO has to offer, including Double VIP Points for the entire month! 🙂
➡ FREE LEGO ADVENT CALENDAR: Every year LEGO releases three advent calendars to count down to Christmas. This year we get the #41131 LEGO Friends Advent Calendar, the #60133 LEGO City Advent Calendar, and the #75146 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar. But wait, this year we get one more! The #40222 LEGO Holiday Countdown Calendar is free with purchases of $99 or more from October 1st to the 25th. This advent calendar is not related to a specific theme, but includes cute Christmas decorations for each day. A nice surprise for sure! You can find all the holiday sets under the Seasonal Items section of the Online LEGO Shop.
➡ DOUBLE VIP POINTS ALL MONTH: As a LEGO VIP member you will earn Double VIP Points on all of your purchases for the entire month of October. This is what LEGO fans look forward to all year long to buy those big and expensive sets, and there is no shortage of those this year. You can find them all under the LEGO Exclusives section of the Online LEGO Shop.
➡ LEGO WINTER HOLIDAY TRAIN: Speaking of the holidays, the #10254 LEGO Creator Winter Holiday Train is now available for everyone, not just LEGO VIP members. It is a lovely set with a full circle of train tracks and some fun details throughout the train. Perfect to run around your Christmas tree or your LEGO Winter Village. You can find it under the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.
➡ LEGO STAR WARS DEATH STAR & ROGUE ONE SETS: The #75159 LEGO Star Wars Death Star is now available to the general public, not just LEGO VIP members. It is an updated version of the recently retired #10188 LEGO Star Wars Death Star with refreshed minifigures and a few minor changes. Also, as we discussed yesterday, all five of the LEGO Star Wars Rogue One sets are now available, plus three new large action figures. You can find them at the LEGO Star Wars section of the Online LEGO Shop.
➡ LEGO IDEAS CATERHAM SEVEN 620R: The #21307 LEGO Ideas Caterham Seven 620R is now available! This is the latest in the fan-submitted LEGO sets, and is a beautiful and authentic model of the real car. You can check out the full review of the set here: LEGO Ideas Caterham Review, Thoughts, Fixes, and find it under the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.
➡ LEGO DISNEY CASTLE: The #71040 LEGO Disney Castle has been perpetually out of stock, as I have predicted when it was first released. If you would like to get this set for the holidays, I recommend you check back often and get it as soon as it appears again. You can find it under the LEGO Exclusives section of the Online LEGO Shop.
There are no other new releases this month, so this is a good time to catch up on other recent sets, and the Double VIP Points definitely help. Some of the new sets we have recently discussed are the #21127 LEGO Minecraft The Fortress, and the two LEGO Mincraft Skin Packs. Also there are two new LEGO Architecture sets, the #21029 LEGO Architecture Buckingham Palace and the #21030 LEGO Architecture United States Capitol Building. And there are a large number of new LEGO Nexo Knights, LEGO Ninjago, LEGO Super Heroes, LEGO Technic, LEGO Friends, and LEGO Elves sets as well. You can find them all under the different categories of the Online LEGO Shop.
Speaking of the Online LEGO Shop, you probably noticed that the site has been completely updated. We have discussed the changes here: How to Use the New Online LEGO Shop. The new website is more responsive and mobile friendly, however it is not without issues. It takes a bit to get used to it, and the development team is still working on fixing some bugs. If you have any problems with the website, feel free to ask.
The Double VIP Points period is the perfect time to get the large exclusive sets, like the recently released #10252 LEGO Creator Volkswagen Beetle, the #71040 LEGO Disney Castle, the #10253 LEGO Creator Big Ben, the #42056 LEGO Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS, and the #75159 LEGO Star Wars Death Star. They will likely be backordered by the time the holiday shopping season comes around. The smaller and wider release sets should be readily available at most LEGO retailers and the Online LEGO Shop. Also, remember that LEGO lowered the minimum threshold for free shipping from $75 to $35. So if you just want to make a smaller purchase now it is easier to qualify for free shipping. And as I always mention, it is a good idea to also take a look at the Sales & Deals section of the Online LEGO Shop before you check out. You can often find some great deals there on interesting older sets that are being retired.
So what do you think? Are you interested in any of the news sets and promotions this month? What are you planning to get? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

Wow. I hope the double VIP points are for the UK. Been waiting for this to buy the brick bank 🙂
Apparently the UK is getting triple VIP Points! 😀
Only on rogue one purchases though, not on general purchases.
Oh, I see! So double on regular stuff, and triple on Rouge One?
According to Brickset, it seems to be 3x VIP on all Star Wars sets, not just Rogue One… But offer ends this weekend…

Does the UK get the same deals or does anyone know what the UK October offers will be?
According to the email I got, these are the deals for the UK: “Free gift First Order Stormtrooper minifigure with any LEGO Star Wars purchase. Get 3X VIP points with all LEGO Star Wars purchases! Above offers valid 30th September until 2nd October.” No other deals were mentioned in the affiliate newsletter.
UK only get triple VIP on Duplo & Star Wars sets 😥. I was placing an order on the online Lego shop yesterday (1st October) totalling approx £200, but no promos at all were added to my order. Not sure if there was a problem with the online shop, but the only promo that I could see that we got in the UK was a Stormtrooper for buying Star Wars sets. Very disappointed that as a VIP there were no promos for me, so I purchased from Amazon instead as prices were cheaper than Lego online.
Yeah, looks like the VIP Points offer is only on Star Wars. Sad… I’m glad you were able to get the sets you wanted though.
UK Lego online is now showing in the VIP area that you get 4 x points on Duplo Sets until 9th October. Also when I added things to my basket, we get the London Bus promo . Darn it, wish the bus had shown in the basket on 1st October, because I’ve already spent my allocated Lego money!
Wish Lego would get their act together!
Judith, you should call LEGO about the London Bus. If your order didn’t go out yet, they will very likely add it. Just ask nicely. 😉
Too bad the website is still an abortion and is practically broke al the time. It’s been a few weeks now and nothing has been fixed. pathetic.
Yep, I was just pulling my hair out because I get error messages on almost every page. The wish list feature still doesn’t work, and the sorting is also broken (this worked for me previously). I have tried both IE and Firefox, and both have the same issues. The new website is definitely very broken. All we can do is keep reporting the problems and hope they will fix them. 🙁
Friday I ordered the Star Wars Advent Calendar. Then Saturday I ordered the Spider-man Bridge Battle set and a Rouge One K-2SO Set.
I had problems with the site. I was using chrome and had to switch to FireFox to stop the errors. I sent them a note but haven’t heard back.
The site doesn’t work for me in either IE or Firefox. Lots of bugs. But I’m glad you were able to get what you were looking for. 🙂
Today my girlfriend and I drove 2 hours to our nearest Lego Store to shop the updated pick-a-brick wall. According to the calendar shown above they should have new pieces starting October 1st. The penguin pick a model looks like it has some useful pieces.
When we arrive we were told that the new pick-a-brick wall has been postponed for a month. So it looks like we won’t be able to get the new pieces till after double VIP points ends.
That’s a bummer. My understanding is that individual stores do have some leeway as far as when they update their wall. It is probably a good idea to call ahead of time to make sure. My closest LEGO store is also two hours away, so I know the feeling… 🙁
Apparently the problem is company wide. I called two other Lego stores, beside the one we went to, and was told by all of them that the penguin build has been put off for a month, for all stores. It appeared that they didn’t have the parts for the VIP model either. It would have been nice if Lego Corp had sent out an email, at least to VIP customers, that this was happening. They are quite quick at sending out advertisements to tempt us into spending more money!
Maya, I totally agree. I will bring the issue up in the Ambassador Forum. You are right, at least VIP should have been notified.
There’s also the Bricktober at Toys ‘R’ Us here in the U.S. But based on the agenda, it looks disappointing. No special gift like last year if you purchase over a certain amount. =(
This is a link showing the 2015 LEGO Bricktober at Toys R Us. It was so much more FUN! http://www.thebrickfan.com/lego-toys-r-us-bricktober-2015-official-images/
I have considered adding the TRU specials to this article, but they are so disappointing I decided against it. They are basically randomly put together minifig parts. 🙁
I have been waiting for October. Unleashed quite a bit of my LEGO funds. What is there not to love? Train set, double VIP points and fantastic free gift.
Yeah, October is one of the best months for shopping. 🙂
