LEGO VIP early access to Black Friday deals

Just a reminder that this weekend LEGO VIP members get early access to the LEGO Brick Friday offers, and also earn Double VIP Points on all purchases. The offer is valid at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop. This is a perfect time to take care of your LEGO holiday shopping needs, and avoid the hassle of driving around and fighting the crowds after Thanksgiving. And you also have a better chance of getting the sets you want before they disappear from shelves.

LEGO Double VIP Points

To help with your holiday shopping, LEGO sent out the 2016 LEGO Big Holiday Catalog. If you are on their mailing list, you should have gotten it by now. If you didn’t get it yet, but you would like to, you can call LEGO’s customer service for a copy. The 2016 LEGO Big Holiday Catalog is very helpful with planning out your Christmas shopping, as it includes all of the best LEGO sets of the year, suggestions for different budgets, age-groups and building-skills, and even a blank page to compile wish-lists. And for online shoppers, LEGO set up some useful holiday shopping pages on their website.

LEGO HOLIDAY GIFT SHOP: The dedicated LEGO Holiday Gift Shop is all about helping with your shopping. You might use this page yourself, or direct people here who are planning to get a LEGO gift for you. The LEGO Holiday Gift Shop is broken down into three sections; the Hottest Gifts for 2016 page, the Stocking Suffers page, and the Ultimate Gifts page. We will take a look at each of them below, and here is the link to the main page: LEGO HOLIDAY GIFT SHOP

shop-lego-holiday-stocking-stuffers

LEGO SHOP STOCKING STUFFERS: This section includes small items, mostly under $10; keychains, magnets, holiday decorations and some small LEGO sets. Those small LEGO Mixels sets are always appreciated by LEGO fans as they come with a good selection of interesting parts. Also, notice the LEGO-themed stationary items. We have reviewed these previously (see: LEGO Stationary: Ruler, Pens, Markers & More!), and they are very high quality – great for students! Even with a small budget, you can make a LEGO fan happy with pretty much any item from this page. Here is the link: LEGO HOLIDAY STOCKING STUFFERS

LEGO HOTTEST GIFTS: This section includes recently released sets that are very popular with LEGO fans. Prices range anywhere between $50-$500, and represent many different themes and interests. If you have a LEGO fan on your gift list who is deeply involved with the hobby, this is a good place to shop for them. Here is the link: LEGO HOTTEST GIFTS

shop-lego-holiday-ultimate-gifts

LEGO ULTIMATE GIFTS: Just like the title says, this section includes sets that LEGO fans dream about. They are big, beautiful, and expensive. Both building them and displaying them is a very satisfying experience. If the LEGO fan on your gift list deserves the best of the best, here is where to shop. Some examples include the #71040 LEGO Disney Castle, the #75159 LEGO Star Wars Death Star, the #76042 LEGO Super Heroes SHIELD Helicarrier, the #75827 LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters, the #21128 LEGO Minecraft The Village, the LEGO Modular Buildings, the large LEGO Creator vehicles, and more. Here is the link: LEGO ULTIMATE GIFTS

ONLINE LEGO SHOP HOMEPAGE: If you are fairly familiar with navigating the Online LEGO Shop, you can also just go to the homepage and start browsing from there. You can search by specific Themes, Interests, What’s New, Sales and Deals, Exclusives, and extra items like Books, Video-Games, Apparel & Accessories, and more. Keep in mind that the website’s design was completely overhauled recently, so it may take a bit to familiarize yourself with the new navigation options. I normally use the Sets dropdown list and select from the Themes I want to see, or use the search box at the top of the page to find the exact set I’m looking for. Here is the link: ONLINE LEGO SHOP HOMEPAGE

LEGO SALES & DEALS: It is worth keeping an eye on this tab from now to the end of the year, as this is where LEGO is going to get rid of old stock they don’t want to carry into next year. Right now there are only a few sets listed, but during Black Friday weekend there will be a whole list of sets 20% off. Here is the link: LEGO SALES & DEALS

Within the next few weeks we will discuss other places to shop for LEGO, but nothing is as sure as shopping from the company directly. Sometimes with retailers, you may end up with a set that has been opened and the content removed, giving you the hassle and headache of trying to return it. This has been a growing problem in the past few years as crooks realize that LEGO sets and minifigs are popular and valuable. Shopping from LEGO gives you the peace of mind that this won’t happen. Imagine little Timmy opening a brand-new looking LEGO set on Christmas morning, only to find garbage inside!

LEGO Double VIP Points

So remember, if you are a LEGO VIP member you will earn Double VIP Points on all purchases this weekend. You will also get the #30223 LEGO Holiday Snowglobe with purchases of $99 or more. LEGO VIP members also get free shipping on all purchases during the weekend. Check the Sales & Deals section for discounted sets – you might find something you like.

So what’s on your Christmas shopping list? Big sets? Small sets? Whole LEGO themes? Are you asking your friends and relatives to buy LEGO for you? Or are you going to gift yourself? Do you give LEGO as a gift to others? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

So the sales won’t be until next week? I thought there were going to be some this time too. At least that’s what I remember reading somewhere. The double vip points, free shipping, and snowglobe is still awesome.

    • admin November 19, 2016, 12:00 PM

Yes, I think there was some misunderstanding about what will be available today because of the wording on the LEGO Store Calendar. People expected that VIP members will have access to all the black Friday offers, including the sales. But now it is clear that won’t happen until the Black Friday weekend. And yes, the Double VIP Points and free shipping on all orders is still awesome, and the Snow Globe is super cute. 🙂

I would say that this weekend is good for picking up the new sets you wanted, and next weekend will be good to take a look at the sales. Based on previous years, I’, fairly certain that the sales will be on older sets, not on new releases.

      • admin November 19, 2016, 12:02 PM

Also, I should add here that some of the 2017 sets will be available on Cyber Monday. My understanding is that this is for the US only, and includes several Batman Movie sets, Technic, Super Hero Girls, and Moana. 🙂

Hey, would that be free shipping for the Australia lego store as well?

        • admin November 24, 2016, 12:35 PM

Ethan, I’m not that familiar with the Australian market, but maybe our readers from Australia can help out. You can also call your local LEGO store to find out what specials they are having.

  • PrashBricks November 19, 2016, 12:31 PM

When will you do the ‘2017 lego creator sets’?
I am eager to see them, same for the ‘2017 lego city set’.
Do you know where I can get cheaper lego’s then from tlg it self?
I am planning to rebuild modulars (detective’s office, assembly square, etc.) with lego creator sets (toy and groccery shop, corner deli, café and bike shop, etc.).

    • admin November 19, 2016, 12:48 PM

I’m going to try to squeeze in 2017 sets in the next few weeks, but it is going to be a bit tough, as the focus this time of the year is all the special sales and deals going on. If you just want to see pictures, they are available in the Brickset database. Here is the link the the 2017 sets: http://brickset.com/sets/year-2017

For regular LEGO sets there are going to be plenty of deals during Black Friday/Cyber Monday. Look for flyers from your local LEGO retailers (Toys’R’Us, Target, and Wal-Mart are usually the best), and online Amazon is already running sales – we talked about that just a few days ago here: http://thebrickblogger.com/2016/11/recent-lego-sets-on-sale-at-amazon/

If you are looking for recent Modulars, it is very unlikely that you will find any sales. Modulars almost never go on sale. Your best bet is to take advantage of the Double VIP Points period from LEGO, or any coupons you have from other retailers that sell the Modulars. For the smaller City buildings you mentioned, they might go on sale at some retailers. Again, look for coupons. Even if you don’t subscribe to any newspapers, it is totally worth picking up the Black Friday edition of your local paper, because it will be stuffed with coupons.

LEGO will be running a 20% off sale next weekend on their website. And after Christmas they will run another year-end clearance sale. Other retailers usually have the best deals on Black Friday, then right after Christmas. However I have found that since LEGO’s increased popularity since The LEGO Movie, after Christmas LEGO sales are very meager. 50% off after Christmas sales were quite common some years back, but I haven’t seen one of those for several years now. LEGO is doing awesome, which is a good thing, but bad in the sense of finding really insane deals.

      • PrashBricks November 20, 2016, 3:31 PM

I actually meant not buying the modulars, but buying creator sets instead and in stead of building the creator set how it it suposed to be, taking the parts plus parts I have and build a modular building with those parts and a downloaded instruction from tlg itself.

        • admin November 20, 2016, 4:02 PM

Oh, I see. That make sense. Creator sets do go on sale more often than the Modulars, and they are more widely available. So it is very likely you will find a good sale. 🙂

  • Diamond655 November 19, 2016, 5:37 PM

Dang, of course Black Friday deals happen AFTER I spend all my money…

On an unrelated note, a secret level has been found in the Fantastic Beast level pack, accessible with the Tardis. Guess what it is?

    The Flash.

FINALLY, they do something with the CW shows other than Comic-Con exclusive figures. About time. Hopefully, sets soon follow.

    • admin November 20, 2016, 4:01 PM

      Flash! Nice! 😀

      • Diamond655 November 20, 2016, 10:38 PM

Let’s hope together that they do more with the Flash from here on out, huh?

In the 4 year history of LEGO Super Heroes, he’s been in a whopping 3 physical sets and never had so much as a portion of a storyline to himself in the LEGO Batman games. He was presumably cut from a playable appearance in LEGO Dimensions, as a clip exists of him in Back to the Future.

If they don’t do anything more with him in a year or two I’m going to scream.

        • admin November 20, 2016, 10:47 PM

That’s actually really surprising. What do they have against the Flash? Such an awesome character!

          • Diamond655 November 20, 2016, 11:06 PM

Yeah, I know, right? I think it’s just because he isn’t a “main star” with DC Comics. It’s all about Batman and Superman, and the sets follow this directly.

The Flash has only had one actual set where eyes are on him for more than 3 seconds, and that’s the Gorilla Grodd/Captain Cold set. And the focus is only on him for more than 3 seconds because it’s his villains they’re facing.

            • Håkan November 21, 2016, 7:56 AM

He’s easy to miss, though. One blink and he’s gone.

  • BLProductions November 20, 2016, 10:21 PM

My list shrunk considerably when I looked at my LEGO store yesterday. That trip was a failure. Not one of my top sets to get (the 70588 TNT, 42038 Arctic Truck, etc.) was there; the guy said he’d never even seen the TNT before. Why is 70588 so special that it’s the only set of its theme to never be in-store? It’s online, at Leicester Square, but never at a store I go to. Instead, I settled for a Series 16 CMF (the Hiker), but that meant no Snowglobe, which is disappointing. Today I ordered the TNT from LEGO Shop@Home, and that’s just about it for LEGO 2016 for me. 😕
I also noted that the PAB wall there had Mixel joints on it: the 1X2 W/ side ball, and 1X2 W/ side cup. I found that interesting, since PAB walls normally don’t have such specialized parts in stores. Could it be because Mixels is ending, they have extra ball-joints?
Also, a bit late but: http://brickset.com/article/24652/2017-star-wars-sets-revealed! They don’t look that bad, though some are better than others. I really like the Y-wing, as the added greebling looks great. 🙂

    • admin November 20, 2016, 10:46 PM

I also really like the greebling on the Y-wing. Sorry to hear that your trip to the LEGO store was unsuccessful. At least you were able to order the Ninjago set online. It is one of my favorite ones also. 🙂

      • BLProductions November 21, 2016, 6:26 PM

W-wing? I built one of those years ago on LDD, but I know it doesn’t have much greebling. 😉 Anyways, the Rogue One sets seem pretty good (excepting that Imperial Battle Pack – what is that thing?), and I like Yoda’s Starfighter too, although I’ve never heard of it.
The trip was really only unsuccessful for me, as my brother got the Rock Roader (as planned) and my mom bought a whole bunch of sets. I don’t know what those are (they’re Christmas gifts), but it got her the Snowglobe. Hopefully I will get that for Christmas, since that set was my original purpose for going to the LEGO Store. 😕

        • admin November 21, 2016, 11:08 PM

He-he, I meant Y-wing. The protector on my keyboard is getting really discolored and I keep missing up letters. 😀

I don’t really care for any of the other SW sets. But I have to see the new movie before really making judgment. BTW, did you see the new Marvel sets? That long arm is crazy! 🙄

          • BLProductions November 22, 2016, 4:28 PM

Yeah, I’m not too big a fan of any other 2017 SW sets either. For some reason, the theme nowadays just seems lacking in comparison to other themes, like Ninjago. 😕
I did see the Marvel sets, and those arms are very long! I think they’re two separate parts attached to the torso, but I’m not sure. The new “Power Blast” parts are interesting as well, although I wonder if they will damage minifigs like the Super Jumpers did. Overall, though, I’m less interested in these sets than in the SW… but then I’m not a big Super Heroes fan, beyond the Avengers movies and Batman.

            • admin November 22, 2016, 10:30 PM

I was also wondering about those Power Blast parts. It seems like they would damage the hand. But I guess we will just have to wait and see. With the long arm it seems like it can be adjusted to make it longer or shorter. You can see this on the pictures. I’m really not sure how it works, but looks fun and weird… 🙄

  • Icepacklady November 21, 2016, 8:25 AM

I was disappointed this weekend to not get the Brick Friday sales. We did get double VIP points. Not sure if we got a calendar. We’ll be going back on Friday to see what the sales are but I was really hoping to cross that stop off my list over the weekend.

  • SkipThruChaos November 22, 2016, 10:20 AM

I am getting so confused. Were the Double VIP points last weekend (Nov 18-20) and I missed it? The husband wiped out my points last week, granted he was buying sets for me, but I had them earmarked for a bigger set, and now I’m back to square one.

    • admin November 22, 2016, 11:57 AM

Yes, double VIP Points were last weekend. The Double VIP Points period is best for collecting points, not for spending them. Hope this helps. 🙂

  • legosteve November 25, 2016, 12:27 AM

Lego Creator Pet Shop is retiring soon and I just bought it for Brick Friday for $119. It doesn’t show the discount until you click on it, or put it in your cart.!!!

    • admin November 25, 2016, 9:41 AM

Thanks for mentioning that! Glad you were able to get it! 😀
