LEGO POTC Silent Mary available now!

While the LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean theme has been discontinued a long time ago, we are getting three special sets related to the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales movie – the fifth and final installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series. The three sets include the #71042 LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean Silent Mary, and two LEGO BrickHeadz characters. While the general release will be at the beginning of April, LEGO VIP members can already purchase all three sets at official LEGO stores and the LEGO Disney section of the Online LEGO Shop. So let’s talk about this. 🙂

The #71042 LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean Silent Mary is the second largest ship LEGO released to date, however since it is meant to be a ghost ship, it doesn’t have a traditional hull. This makes the ship visually very unusual and spooky, and quite like what you see in the trailer of the film (included below for your reference).

Here is the description of the Silent Mary: Bring the magic of Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean to your home with this impressive replica of the Silent Mary ghost ship. This highly detailed LEGO model with over 2,200 pieces features a hinged bow section, opening skeleton hull with decay and destruction detailing, movable rudder, collapsible main mast and two further masts, long bowsprit with crow’s nest and mast, tattered sails, detailed quarterdeck, plus a rowboat with two oars and an array of weapons and accessory elements. This model provides a rewarding build and play experience, and the integrated stand makes it suitable for display in the home or office. Also includes eight minifigures: Captain Jack Sparrow, Henry, Carina, Lieutenant Lesaro, Captain Salazar, Officer Magda, Officer Santos and the Silent Mary Masthead. The Silent Mary with the main mast in vertical position measures over 18” (48cm) high, 26” (68cm) long and 8” (22cm) wide, and over 14” (36cm) wide with the main mast collapsed. 2294 pieces. Price: $199.99 – BUY HERE

We will review the set in more detail once we have a chance to build it, and in the meantime, you can watch the video-review by the BrickVault, which I have added below. The set includes some really interesting building techniques, highly detailed minifigures, and two awesome ghost sharks, so there is a lot to see!

Two other sets related to the Pirates of the Caribbean film that are now available to LEGO VIP members are the #41593 LEGO BrickHeadz Captain Jack Sparrow and the #41594 LEGO BrickHeadz Captain Armando Salazar. Both sets belong to Series 1 of the LEGO BrickHeadz collection, which we have talked about previously (see links at the end of this post). The sets are $9.99 each, and provide a fun building experience in a cute and blocky style. You can find both sets under the LEGO Disney section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The previously released LEGO BrickHeadz sets are already gaining many fans both from the collector and builder community, so I expect that the two LEGO BrickHeadz Pirates of the Caribbean characters will also be popular. And the #71042 LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean Silent Mary could easily become the crown jewel of LEGO ship fans, as it opens up new possibilities and techniques for building damaged ships. You can find all three sets under the LEGO Disney section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? Are you excited about the new LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean sets? And what do you think of the Silent Mary? Is this a ship you are planning to add to your collection? And are you looking forward to the movie? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below! And if you are one of the first persons to get the set, you are also welcome to share your own review! 😉

This ship is obviously a risky move for LEGO, as it is expensive, and has very little playability. It looks like a very dramatic display piece though. I really like the sails.

I think it will also depend on how well the movie does. If the movie is received well, I’m, sure fans would love to get their hands on the awesome ghost ship. It’s a very unusual set for sure, which of course has its plusses and minuses.

The Silent Mary is an amazing display piece for sure, but it would have to be in a glass case or something. It doesn’t look like it would be easy to move around for cleaning. I will have to see this on display in real life to make a purchasing decision.

Good point. Dust particularly stands out on dark colors, so yeah, this ship would require regular maintenance (or a display case, as you said). On the other hand, maybe some dust would make the ship look even more spooky. 😈

I know this is meant to be a ghost ship and it’s accurate to the movie, but I wish lego would release a regular pirate ship, or other big ship like the Imperial Flagship from a few years ago. We haven’t had a good ship for a while now.

    • admin March 19, 2017, 5:44 PM

Yeah, the Imperial Flagship was released in 2010, so it has been quite a few years since we got a nice ship. There were some smaller Pirate Ships, since then, but nothing substantial.

Some cool ships if you look outside the Pirates theme, though…

        Including
        79008-1: Pirate Ship Ambush (2013)
        70810-1: MetalBeard’s Sea Cow (2014)
        70738-1: Final Flight of Destiny’s Bounty (2015)

MetalBeard’s Sea Cow is an insanely good ship, but it is so expensive now that it’s retired. The Ninjago ships can be found for a decent price though. Good suggestions! 🙂

Is there a designer video for the Silent Mary? I haven’t seen anything, but I like when the designers themselves introduce a set.

    • admin March 19, 2017, 5:41 PM

Hm… not that I know of. From what I have read, the set was designed by Marcos Bessa, but I haven’t seen any designer videos. 😐

What about the SHARKS???? Why is nobody talking about how awesome those SHARKS are????!!!!!!

  • Trojan Driveways March 20, 2017, 9:32 AM

dam this looks awesome!!! but yes i agree where are the sharks!!

    • admin March 20, 2017, 10:49 AM

The sharks are hiding under the belly of the ship. 😉

I’m torn. On the one hand this is brilliant. On the other I’m not willing to dust it every week or so. I don’t care about the hull et (I have a box full of hull parts) but the figures are brilliant as are the sharks and sails. Sadly I don’t see them being cheap on bricklink 🙁

    • admin March 21, 2017, 8:33 PM

Yeah, the sharks are my favorite part too. 🙂

Will it go on sale at toys r us?

    • admin April 30, 2017, 2:46 PM

Kenny, this is an exclusive set from LEGO. Exclusives rarely – if ever – go on sale, and they are usually only sold directly by LEGO. However sometimes you can take advantage of incentives like Double VIP Points, store coupons, gift-cards, etc.

I have the Black Pearl and the Queen Anne displayed all year round. Once or twice a year I use my air compressor to clean them. Obviously on a low pressure setting after removing the figures and small loose pieces. Looks brand new when I am done, and for shine I use a dab of alcohol on a micro fiber cloth for the outer hulls and stem/poles. They look brand new all the time after all this time.

I have always been very unhappy that they did not release a Flying Dutchmen. I know they lost the contract that time around by why not do a release of that. It is the most popular other than the Pearl. And the most Identifiable not mention unique.

Also I would have like to see a release of the trade federations ship. Man what a a nice contrast to the display that would be looking like a real pirate battle.

HELLO LEGO MAKE THESE SHIPS PLEASE!

199.99 is really high. I guess they are making a safe bet – the Queen Anne was 119.00 on release what gives? Still this new ship looks good, but again why not release the other missing ships. Why only 3 pieces for this movie? Doesn’t make sense.

    • admin May 5, 2017, 11:10 AM

A Flying Dutchman would have been amazing! On another note, there is a really beautiful Asian style Ninjago ship coming out later this year. 🙂
