As LEGO fans eagerly wait for the release of The LEGO Ninjago Movie (September) and the accompanying LEGO sets (August-September), LEGO continues to tease with more and more reveals. We have talked about The LEGO Ninjago Movie sets last week (see links at the end of this post), and just before the weekend, LEGO also revealed all twenty of the upcoming LEGO Ninjago Movie Collectible Minifigures. So let’s talk about these awesome little guys and gals. ๐
While most LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series come with sixteen characters, The LEGO Batman Movie and The LEGO Ninjago Movie collections both include twenty. This gives us a greater variety of characters and accessories, as you will see below.
Kendo Kai comes with the standard LEGO samurai armor in black, a protective kendo headgear, two standard rod pieces as training weapons, and a new hairpiece. We can’t see Kai’s torso-print, but it’s most likely unique to the series. While Kai is busy honing his ninja skills, Cole looks like he really got into hard rock, with a boom-box, new style messy hair and a shirt with graphics that look suspiciously similar to the AC/DC logo.
Zane wears a super cool retro gaming sweater and a re-colored backpack, while Jay sports an awesome new shawl piece, new hair, and a phone with a selfie stick. (I guess it was inevitable that minifigs will eventually be taking selfies!) Both minifigs are going to be very useful in everyday LEGO City settings.
There are two versions of Lloyd. One sports a dark-green hoodie with a new hood piece, a bowl with beautiful dragon printing, and a spoon. Every piece of this minifig is going to be very useful not just for LEGO Ninjago settings, but also in a standard LEGO City. Lloyd’s second version is in ninja garb, with a new style sword, a printed tile, and a spare hairpiece.
Lord Garmadon has three versions. The first two are Garmadon in black armor with a new style weapon and round hat, and Volcano Garmadon with the same bowl and spoon as Lloyd, but with different color and printing. (Those bowls are going to be so useful!)
The third version of Lloyd’s daddy is Flashback Garmadon, which LEGO first teased us with on Father’s Day. He is from a flashback scene in the movie when Garmadon was young and handsome (okay, maybe not so handsome). Master Wu looks pretty much the same as in the Ninjago TV show, and comes with a box of corn flakes – another great printed accessory.
Spinjitzu Trainining Nya is dressed in a classy ninja suit, and comes with a new hairstyle, and two standard katanas in reddish brown. Misako is an interesting one, as she looks much too young to be Lloyd’s mother. Some LEGO fans suspect this version of her is referencing the flashback scene from the movie with young Garmadon. I really like the new hairpieces of both girls!
N-Pop Girl is one cute minifig in her Unikitty outfit! And her teddy bear is very cute too! The hairpiece is a re-colored version of Harley Quinn’s hair. The GPL Tech comes with a laptop and a red mug, and wears a lab-coat with a batman shirt under it. How cool is that? Her large glasses remind be of Robin’s spectacles in The LEGO Batman Movie.
The Sushi Chef will go great with the upcoming LEGO Ninjago Movie Ninjago City set we talked about the other day. The printed 1×1 round tile comes with a new sushi print, and the black and white headband piece is great! The Gong & Guitar Rocker is another excellent generic minifig with a new guitar print, and great torso and legs. The hair/headband combo is not new, but the colors are.
The Shark Army General #1 is a very interesting female minifigure with a new hairpiece, fins, and a re-colored Slurpee cup. The Shark Army Great White is actually a black shark with what looks like quite a bit of battle damage, and a flaming black fish. ๐
The Shark Army Angler is both funny and intimidating – sort of like a real life anglerfish. The Shark Army Octopus comes with a similar arrangement. I’m pretty certain that both headgear pieces are going to be used in all kinds of underwater LEGO creations, and maybe even as minifigure Halloween costumes.
And that rounds up all twenty of the upcoming Collectible Minifigure Series related to The LEGO Ninjago Movie. What do you think? How do you like these minifigs? Do you have any favorite characters and/or accessories? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! ๐

From the looks of things, the LEGO Ninjago Movie is going to be a lot more down-to-earth, sorta. From what I’ve heard, there’s no elemental powers in it? (confirmation please?)
Also, despite my previous complaints I actually love a good amount of the figures in the series. Helps that most of them wouldn’t look out of place in an ordinary setting.
That’s what I like about them too. Lots of generic good accessories, torsos, useful headgear pieces, etc. I have also heard that there are no elemental powers involved, but I don’t have confirmation from an official source.
So many great parts here! the bowls, the spoons, the hoodie, the shawl, the costumes, the guitar. And is collecting varieties of Garmadons a thing now?
I really like the accessories too, and yep, looks like LEGO is really pushing Garmadon this time around. ๐
Can’t wait , this is ( I think ) is better than the LEGO Batman movie sets. I don’t know if I am able to get the NINJAGO city set, but , I will definitely get the other sets . I am deciding on which set I should get first The Destinys’ Bounty or The Temple of the Ultimate ,Ultimate Weapon . It depends on what I want later ( Birthday) or what I want now. Oh, by the way you my or my not hear from me for about ten to eleven days. I am house sitting for my Uncle and his Wi Fi is kinda unreliable sometimes. Just to let you guys know and that I didn’t get lost in the cyber zone. Lol.
Have a happy house sitting! We will be here when you get back. And the Ninjago sets should be around for a while too, so you will have some time to get them. Our wallets do need a breather from time to time with all this awesomness. ๐
May favorites are Lloyd with the ninja hood and the shark army guys!
My boys are going to be all over these! This is going to be an expensive summer! ๐
Yeah, tell me about it! ๐
Can’t wait for the movie!!!!! Is the cornflakes box printed? That’s one of my favorites. Garmadon looks weird but funny,a nd I like his new samurai helmet.
I really really want the n- pop girl!!! Also Lloyd with hoodie… I’m trying to max my favourite s because I need to save $$
I meant to say minimize
Those are some of my favorites too. LEGO is making it very difficult to save $$$, don’t they? ๐
Me wait!?Tell that to my temptation . This house sitting is a job and my uncle pays well. Sadly it’s already spent in my mind. ( bad and expensive habit to get in to).
LOL! That’s too funny! Maybe you can do something else while you are house sitting? I know some people who house sit for a living (at different houses), and in the meantime run an online business or something. Of course you said that the Internet connection is not very good at your uncle’s place, so that might not work. But you may come up with some other creative stuff to do at the same time. LEGO fans are never short of ideas. ๐
Learn another language or something… Like Swedish!
For Americans, Spanish is actually the most useful, as a lot of places look for bilingual people who speak both English and Spanish (Spanish is the second most common language). Other languages may be required in very specific careers, but they are mostly just hobbies. I’m bilingual and can also manage a few other languages, but almost never needed them or used them, with the exception of Spanish.
On the whole, I’m not that excited for this series. Kai is ok, but why does he always have to be so angry? Either he’s super angry or is smiling ridiculously, for both the show sets and the movie sets. Zane’s expression is worse: his sweater is nice, but that smileโฆ it’s almost scary. Lloyd himself isn’t that interesting, although his hood, spoon, and bowl are great parts – same for Volcano Garmadon. I wish the normal Garmadon had the helmet, and then I would get him just to have a Garmadon minifig. Sensei I might get; the corn flakes are funny, and I do want to know what their significance. I like Nya as well, and the Wu Cru symbol is a nice reference.
Maybe the CMF Misako is a flashback version, but then what of the version in 70620 Ninjago City? That one is not a flashback, but it looks the same. I suspect a different relationship between Misako and Lloyd, or perhaps she is simply older than the minifig design suggests. ๐
Also, Cole’s shirt does say AC/DC, using the symbols developed for the Ninjago Movie sets. There’s an article on Brickset about them. The CMF Nya’s outfit also uses them to spell “ninja”.
BTW, a possible typo: you wrote that Shark Army General #1 has “finds.” Did you mean “fins”? ๐
Finding and correcting finds to fins. ๐
If Misako is indeed young, than that’s just creepy, because both Garmadon and Wu are as old as they were in the TV show, and Lloyd is definitely a teen. They kept the ages of everyone else consistent with the TV show, so there must be a reason why Misako is the only one who changed age. She definitely looks young… basically around the same age as Nya. LEGO is pretty good at depicting people of different ages. Anyway, we will see…
That’s funny about Cole’s shirt! I just thought it looked like an AC/DC logo, but never realized it actually spelled it out like that! I knew it was a secret language, but didn’t have the time to try to decrypt it. Very fun! I was just thinking the same about Garmadon. I would really like the Samurai helmet, but I wish it was on the other minifig, as it is a more standard version.
I’m also having problems with the ninja themselves. It looks like the hairpieces are just as overly messy and large as in the trailer, but not quite as cartoonish as Exo-Force (which I like). Zane looks the weirdest in all of his movie forms, which I’m sad about, as he is my favorite character in the TV show. Or at least was… they have been making him more and more robotic in the TV show too, which I don’t like.
All in all, I think my focus is going to be on getting the accessories, and the generic clothing and hairpieces, plus some of the more versatile characters.
So , who is the girl ( reddish blond hair) that comes with the Temple of Airjitsu? I agree on Zane facial expressions and the wacky hair styles of the Ninja’s ( I hope they stay on and don’t fall off Easily.). The internet Service , I may have to resort to sending things by Owl. Lol.
Owl is good. I love owls and they are all around us! ๐
The girl in the Temple if Airjitzu set is named Claire. She is just a generic character to add more minifigs, along with Jasper, and the postman.
I found out who she is. Her name is Claire and she loves ghost stories. She is also likes to explore things and her dad is Jasper who works at the market ( I think) that’s in the Temple of Airjitsu . I guess Claire should be Cole’s girlfriend .
She was also referred to as a tourist visiting the temple in another description. ๐
LEGO really should have made more spinner sets… just sayin’
Oh, I agree. It was my favorite Ninjago game. But Elemental Powers are not part of The LEGO Ninjago Movie. Still, maybe some commemorative spinners would be nice. To remember the good ol’ days. ๐
I’m now 17 and I’ve been playing with my spinners with my brother lately ๐
You are seventeen?! Gosh, time flies! ๐
Haha yep I think I was 12 when I first started coming on here to watch the Ninjago episodes
Yeah, I remember! I wonder how everyone else is doing from those days! Mid to late teens can be a rough ride! Probably most of the kids are preoccupied with other stuff, and are in their Dark Ages when it comes to LEGO. Occasionally someone stops by to say hi, which always makes me happy. ๐
