July 2021 – New LEGO Sets & Promotions

LEGO fans in North America still have to wait another month until the summer sets get released, but there are still plenty of other new LEGO sets and promotions to enjoy during the month of July. Let’s take a look.

FREE LEGO ADIDAS ORIGINALS SUPERSTAR MINI-VERSION: July 1-14, you can get a free #40486 LEGO Adidas Originals Superstar set with purchases of $85 or more. It’s a perfect addition to the #10282 LEGO Adidas Originals Superstar sneaker that is also released this month. This offer is valid at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO ADIDAS ORIGINALS SUPERSTAR AVAILABLE: The #10282 LEGO Adidas Originals Superstar sneaker is now available. We discussed this set in detail (see links at the end of this post), but to recap, it’s a fantastic replica of the original sneaker, and it can be built in either left or right version. The set comes in an authentic Adidas-style shoebox. The price is $79.99, and the set is now available at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

FREE LEGO CHARLES DICKENS TRIBUTE SET: July 12-18, you can get a free #40410 LEGO Charles Dickens Tribute set with purchases of $150 or more. If the set looks familiar, you’re correct. It was also a freebie last year during the holiday shopping season. It’s a quite substantial set with really nice details and even a hidden drawer inside the book. This offer is valid at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

FREE LEGO FRIENDS OR LEGO CITY SET: July 16-25, you can choose between two free sets with purchases of $40 or more; the #30414 LEGO Friends Emma’s Magical Box, or the #40568 LEGO City Skater. This offer is valid at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO IDEAS TYPEWRITER AVAILABLE: The #21327 LEGO Ideas Typewriter is now available to everyone, not just LEGO VIP members. The design of this beautiful set is inspired by the classic typewriter used by the LEGO Group’s founder Ole Kirk Kristiansen, and it moves and sounds just like the real thing. The brick-built center typebar rises each time a letter key is pressed and is linked to the carriage that moves across as you type. There is also a platen roller that you can feed real paper into. The set comes with 2,079 pieces and the price is $199.99. It’s available at the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.

NEW LEGO MONKIE KID SETS AVAILABLE: Three new LEGO Monkie Kid sets are now available, and they all appear to be super fun and interesting. The three set are the #80025 LEGO Monkie Kid Sandy’s Power Loader Mech, the #80026 LEGO Monkie Kid Pigsy’s Noodle Tank, and the #80028 LEGO Monkie Kid The Bone Demon. They are all now available at the LEGO Monkie Kid section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO DISNEY FROZEN ICE CASTLE AVAILABLE: The #43197 LEGO Disney Frozen Ice Castle is now available. Fans of the movies will instantly recognize the castle with the curved, double-sided staircase that leads up to the throne room, the glistening ice fountain, the balcony, and much more. The castle measures over 25.5 in. (65 cm) high, 13.5 in. (35 cm) wide, and 7.5 in. (19 cm) deep, and looks beautiful with all those glistening translucent pieces. The set also features Anna, two versions of Elsa in her coronation look as well as her iconic outfit, Kristoff, and Olaf, plus four Snowgie figures. Please note that this set is a more complex build than previous version of the castle, and is recommended for ages 14 and up. It comes with 1,709 pieces, and the price is $199.99. It’s available at the LEGO Disney section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO SPIDER-MAN DAILY BUGLE AVAILABLE: The #76178 LEGO Spider-Man Daily Bugle was released last month, but it has been out of stock for quite a while. So I thought to mention that it is now back in stock and available. This is a massive four-story building, measuring over 32 in. (82 cm) high, 10.5 in. (27 cm) wide, and 10.5 in. (27 cm) deep, crammed to the rooftop with classic characters, realistic features, and fun accessories. It’s available at the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes section of the Online LEGO Shop.

BRICKLINK DESIGNER PROGRAM CROWDFUNDING: As we discussed a few days ago (see links at the end of this post), the first round of crowdfunding for the BrickLink Designer Program officially opened today. The first five projects to reach the goal of 3,000 pre-orders will be produced as a limited edition set. Up to 5,000 of each will be produced based on pre-orders received from registered BrickLink members. If you are interested in any of the projects in the first round, I suggest you participate in the crowdfunding stage as soon as possible. Several of these projects are very popular and they could potentially sell out fast. Here is the link to the BrickLink Designer Program page.

Besides the new sets discussed here, remember that there are many other amazing sets that were released in the past several months, so it’s worth browsing the full selection at the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? Are you excited about any of the new sets released this month? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below!

Really disappointing that they have put sales caps on the Bricklink crowdfunding sets. Crowdfunding means they should be able to make exactly as many as people want. Instead if a set reaches the 3000 it needs to be produced at all, only 2000 additional people can get one. The Forest castle is already sold out, which means they probably could sell thousands more if they allowed it.

This just means there is going to be a frenzy every time a new group of sets opens up. Did they learn nothing from the Ulysses Space Probe debacle?

Wow. I haven’t seen that Disney castle before. Very cool. I hope those translucent parts are the old sparkly one instead of the new dull ones.

Damn, those Monkie Kid sets look so good! I don’t know what I would use them for as I haven’t seen the show, but I like the imaginative and crazy ideas.

I’m happy that I was able to get pursuit of flight. The castle sold out in like 30 minutes! People are so disappointed in the comments. Lego really underestimated the demand.

I missed out on the castle. They should not have had a limit of five per person. So many of them are already listed on ebay for ridiculous prices. I hope they make adjustments for the next round.

Hmm, the prices were a lot lower than I had expected for such a limited release, roughly the same as a comparable official Lego set, and apparently the sets even had free shipping for the selected countries.

At least there are no unique printed parts this time, so I might see if the instructions would be released online. (But maybe the designers want to keep them, for selling themselves, I assume…)

The current plan is to make the instructions available on the LEGO Instructions app, which a lot of people are upset about. The app is okay, in my experience, but not everyone has the right device to run it.

Ah, dang. Yeah. I’m a luddite geezer fogey, so I don’t see the trouble with putting out PDF:s…

I wan’t to get the Daily Bugle for the parts. It seems to be an awesome set to start a skyscraper and it’s cheaper than getting the parts separately on bricklink. Especially if you sell the figs, which is my plan.

Hmm, I have so many old light gray (both classic gray and blay) base and road plates, that I would have preferred a dark gray DB for better contrast.

But I’ll probably buy one, myself, in due time, anyway… Then I could build a custom Marvel NYC scene around it.

(I’d need to collect a bunch of cheap natural skin-toned heads for the civilians, though. The assortment on Lego Bricks and Pieces isn’t that great, and otherwise, they’re often expensive on Bricklink, due to only having appeared once for a licensed minifig with collector demand, etc…)

I saw a message on Bricklink that they may reconsider and make some changes. I don’t know if that’s for the next round, or this round though.

    • Håkan July 3, 2021, 3:34 PM

As I understood it, the first batch sold out so quickly that they were considering producing a new run, maybe with a bigger limit on sets available per person.

      • Thita (admin) July 4, 2021, 10:25 PM

They haven’t made an announcement yet, but yeah, all of those are possible. They were really taken by surprise how fast the sets sold out. I was part of a pre-event call with LEGO with other Ambassadors, and we did raise the concern that the sets may sell out fast. The LEGO reps said that they weren’t concerned about that and it was unlikely to happen. 😀

Does anybody have that HP chess set? I haven’t heard anyone talking about it. Is it any good?

    • Dan July 4, 2021, 1:38 PM

Oh. It looks like I got a grumpy face icon. I promise I’m not grumpy, I’m just new here. 😀

    • Håkan July 4, 2021, 3:14 PM

I don’t have it. I was a little disappointed that it didn’t contain minifigure pieces of Dumbledore’s Army Vs. the Death Eaters, though. Similar to Lego’s old chess sets for the Castle, Pirates and Vikings theme.

All the printed minifig parts might have increased the pricing, however…

    • Thita (admin) July 4, 2021, 10:28 PM

I might get that one, but I don’t know when. It’s not the most exciting, but I’m mainly just looking at it for the pieces.
