July 2022 – New LEGO Sets & Promotions

Happy July! Four new LEGO sets are available this month, and there are also a couple of new promotions, so let’s take a look.

You will get a free #30592 LEGO Ninjago Mini Thunder Raider polybag with LEGO Ninjago purchases of $40 or more. This offer is valid until the end of the month at official LEGO stores and the LEGO Ninjago section of the Online LEGO Shop.

During the entire month, you will earn Double VIP Points on two sets; the #10946 LEGO DUPLO Town Family Camping Van Adventure, and the #76948 LEGO Jurassic World T.Rex & Atrociraptor Dinosaur Breakout. This offer is also valid at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

The #21334 LEGO Ideas Jazz Quartet set is now available. We discussed this set in detail already (see:….), but to recap, it features brick-built figures of a pianist, bassist, trumpeter, and drummer in dynamic poses, plus highly detailed buildable models of their instruments – a grand piano, double bass, trumpet and drum kit. The set comes with 1,606 pieces and retails for $99.99. Available at the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The #10303 LEGO Icons Loop Coaster is the latest in the LEGO Fairground sets. It features a gravity-driven roller-coaster with one train and a boarding station with opening barriers and a control panel. Lower the bars to secure the riders into the roller-coaster cars. Then release the brake to send the train to the foot of the elevator. Activate the elevator and enjoy the ride as the cars whizz through the roller-coaster’s loops and turns. Upgrade the coaster with LEGO Powered Up (available separately) for a motorized elevator. Accessories include a park bench with a map, balloon cart, pretzel cart, hot-dog stand and height marker. The 11 minifigures include a ride operator, balloon seller, pretzel seller, hot-dog seller, a grandma, a young boy, and five riders (six of the minifigures have reversible heads to show different emotions). The set comes with 3,756 pieces and retails for $399.99. Available at the LEGO Icons section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The #10497 LEGO Icons Galaxy Explorer is another set made for adult builders and collectors, based on the original LEGO Classic Space Galaxy Explorer from 1979. You can take your time crafting the features of this buildable model including the blended delta wing configuration of the original craft. The spaceship sits on three retractable landing legs and features opening rear doors and a retractable ramp to deploy the rover. The rear of the ship houses the rover compartment with extra tools. The cockpit opens to reveal the interior of the spaceship where there are seats for all four astronauts as well as living quarters with two beds, computers, and storage compartments. This set comes with 1,254 pieces and retails for $99.99. It will ship in August, but it is already available for pre-order at the LEGO Icons section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The #11022 LEGO Classic Space Mission set is also now available. LEGO Classic sets provide inspirational ideas and encourage free-building. This set comes with 1,700 pieces and 10 space-themed mini-builds, including a launch tower, mission control center, rocket, space shuttle, sun, Earth, moon, astronaut, and two technicians. The set is recommended for kids ages 5 and up, but it is also a great set for older kids to boost their parts selection. It is available at the LEGO Classic section of the Online LEGO Shop.

As we discussed previously, LEGO is raising prices later this year, so it’s a good idea to pick up your favorite sets beforehand. This is especially true for the larger, teen, and adult-oriented sets, which will have the biggest price increase (as much as 15-25%). See: Upcoming Price Increases on LEGO Sets

I must have been asleep because I missed the announcement of that loop set. It looks so weird but awesome at the same time. How does that work?

The admin is currently working on the review I wrote up for the Loop Coaster. But in short It features an elevator that raises the coaster up the 3 ft tower.

Once it reaches the top it keeps the coaster up there so it can transition onto the tracks. Everything from that point on is purely driven from momentum generated from the drop.

I’ve built every Fairground set from the Creator Expert/LEGO Icons line. This hands down is the best! But it is also the most expensive.

I’m hoping the price increase won’t hit this one in August since it is so pricey already.

I’m warming up to the Galaxy Explorer. First, I felt that it wasn’t as good as some of the customs I have seen.

I’ll see if I can get hold of some of the printed parts separately. I don’t really think I have the time, space and funds for the whole set, right now.

I would love to hear more about the loop coaster thing. It looks so weird and wonderful.

I wrote up a review of the set that will be coming soon.

It is as glorious as it looks. It is now my favorite set of all time.

The odd thing is, most of the time I’m captivated by how the elevator works that I keep missing watching the coaster go around the loops.

Plus, they hide in some cute character work like a sign that tells you everything you’re not supposed to do on the coaster, but examples of how every rule is broken. It’s pretty funny.

But the elevator works similarly to the Haunted House set. However, instead of a fly wheel system to slow the descent the Loop Coaster uses a counterweight system.

Hey, you guys haven’t updated for a few days. Is everything okay?

    • Thita (admin) July 7, 2022, 9:12 PM

Sorry about that. I got a bad infection on my wrist from a spider bite, and haven’t been able to type much. But it’s getting better. Already written up an article for tomorrow. 🙂

Oh, wow! What kind of spider? I thought you may have been out of town or something.

        • Thita (admin) July 7, 2022, 9:28 PM

I’m not well versed in spiders, but it was light brown with medium-ish body and long legs. I went to the ER a couple of days later because the spot kept growing. They gave me a cream and sent me home. They said to apply it for two weeks, and if it doesn’t get better go back. It’s been a week now and it’s starting to get better. But it still looks kind of ugly. Started out as a circle, now it’s kind of like a burn mark.

          • Håkan July 7, 2022, 10:03 PM

No proportional powers or ability to climb walls. Pop culture lied to you!

            Anyway, get well soon!

            • Thita (admin) July 7, 2022, 10:27 PM

Haha! I wish I would have gotten super powers! But nope! The only superpower I got is a week off from work. 😀

          • Master Builder July 7, 2022, 10:26 PM

Wow. That sounds like a brown recluse spider!

            • Thita (admin) July 7, 2022, 10:31 PM

Although there are some reported sightings of brown recluse spiders in Florida (including our county), they are very rare and they are not native here. My spider bite is ugly with pustules, blisters, and peeling skin, it is not painful, it doesn’t itch, and I don’t have any other symptoms like fever, vomiting, etc. that are normally associated with brown recluse spider bites. It was probably just a regular spider with regular venom. 😀
