Target-Exclusive LEGO Ideas Set & New Contest!

Back in May, LEGO fans were invited to vote for one of three previously rejected LEGO Ideas projects to become an exclusive product only available via Target stores. The results of this fan vote were announced yesterday. Below are the details.

The LEGO Ideas team tallied the votes of the Target x LEGO Ideas Set Vote. They are finally ready to share the results of this exciting and extraordinary fan vote, their first collaboration with U.S. retailer Target. The fan vote sought to give one previous 10K creation a second chance at becoming an official LEGO set based on the input of LEGO fans. The 3 amazing product ideas that were up for contention were as follows.

“Before sharing the results, we wish to thank all 3 members for participating as well as the over 34,000 members for casting their votes and showing us which set you would love to see on shelves. Without further ado, we’re delighted to reveal the winning design ‘Viking Village’ by BrickHammer, which won the fan vote with a resounding margin with the votes distributed as shown below.”

  • Viking Village – 16,317
  • Working Mini Golf Course – Fully Playable – 11,575
  • Marine Life – 6,732

“We would like to offer a big congrats to Florian, a.k.a. BrickHammer, the creator of the Viking Village. We’re excited to kickstart work on his design to bring his vision to life as an official LEGO set. Florian has been a multiple 10K member achiever and even recently reached 10K with a new, updated version of his previously not approved Viking Village, so there’s no doubt of his passion for this theme.”

“The results of this fan vote once again show the strong desire of the community for products related to some of the LEGO Group’s nostalgic themes as we’ll see a revival of the old Vikings theme in this set. We’re excited to have this opportunity to bring the community something really special.”

Florian’s design brings forth both a playful and displayable concept that Ragnar Lothbrok surely would be proud to call home. You can learn more about Florian and his design in his earlier 10K Club Interview. The LEGO Ideas team is still working out the final product design, pricing, and availability for this set. They will share more on the LEGO Ideas blog when they get closer to launch.

There is also a new contest on LEGO Ideas to design a second Target-exclusive set. Below are the details.

“What does Family mean to you? Family is hugely important to all of us, but could you show off exactly what that means to you with some LEGO bricks? We’d love to see games you play together, holidays you’ve been on, and memories that will last a lifetime. Regardless of what family means to you, we want to see it brought to life using little plastic bricks! The best set will have its chance at becoming a LEGO Ideas set!”

A judging panel consisting of members of the LEGO Ideas Review Board and representatives from Target will select all the entries that participate in the Fan Vote. Excitingly, just like the ‘We Love Sports’ and ‘Music to our Ears’ contest, all entries that reach the Fan Vote phase could be a new LEGO Ideas product in collaboration with Target! For full details on what they’re looking for, see the ‘Judging’ section of the contest page.

The number of entries that will be part of the fan vote will be determined as part of the judging process. The winning entry in the fan vote will be compensated as a Product Idea prize winner as outlined in the Product Idea Guidelines and Terms of Service. Meaning, they will receive the following:

  • 1% of the total net sales of the product
  • 10 complimentary copies of your LEGO Ideas set
  • Credit and bio in set materials as the LEGO Ideas Fan Designer

If you would like to participate in this contest, submit your entry no later than September 28th, 2022 at 6:00 a.m. EST.  If you’re not sure what time zone you’re in, here’s a time zone converter.   For more details, head on over to the contest page to read the contest rules and get started! And good luck!

This is incredible! I love when LEGO allows us to vote on upcoming sets! They should do it more often.

Is this set going to be available at lego stores or only at target?

Wow. I would have expected Marine Life to win. I’m happy with the Vikings though. It looks like Lego is bringing back classic themes! Castle, now Vikings? 😀

I think there was some official comment from a designer that there would be occasional nostalgic shoutouts to classic themes in themes such as Creator and Icons, but that there are slight chances of actual reboots, currently.

      Now I don’t remember where I read it, though…

Even that is encouraging to hear. And if they continue to perceive strong interest, I’m sure they are not going to turn the money down. Haha.

Hey, I wouldn’t mind some Vikings, but I would like to get some updated helmets and shields. This set will go great with the Viking boat!

I’m wondering how Lego and Target is going to tie this together with anything. I mean, Vikings are cool and all, but unless there is an upcoming movie or something, kids nowadays aren’t that interested in Vikings. This will be a hard sell. Of course that means a discount, which is good for us.

Maybe MCU Thor could provide some interest. Although that take seems like somewhat of a glammy, campy pop culture reinterpretation. (Vikings have more or less always been interpreted through a popular culture lens, though, even if this set appears relatively down to earth,,,)
