Korean LEGO fan Regalien_DEES has been building some fantastic dragons and fantasy creatures, and I thought to show you some of them.
His most recent project is titled Asura. Asuras are a class of beings in Hindu and Buddhist religions described as power-seeking demons with superhuman powers. The LEGO version really captures their qualities with its size, sharp teeth, weapons, and other incredible features. It’s worth studying all the little details to see what parts were used for this impressive creation! For more pictures, visit Regalien_DEES’ flickr gallery.
Another project by Regalien_DEES is called Angel of Regression. It will be exhibited at the Masterpiece Gallery of the LEGO House in Billund, Denmark, starting this fall.
Regalien_DEES also builds beautiful and highly detailed dragons. Above is one example called The Red Dragon of the Apocalypse.
Another formidable creature is the Grimm Reaper, using mostly black elements with glow-in-the-dark detailing. Again, take a look at the parts-usage. You will notice many interestingly shaped pieces reused in clever ways. For more pictures, visit Regalien_DEES’ flickr gallery.
If you’re interested in such highly detailed large creatures, some of the LEGO Monkie Kid and LEGO Ninjago mechs, dragons, and large monsters are a good place to start. They teach you the advanced building techniques needed for stability, mobility, and detailing.
Some currently available examples are the #71772 LEGO Ninjago Crystal King, the #71775 LEGO Ninjago Samurai Mech, and other large LEGO Ninjago mechs and dragons. From the LEGO Monkie Kid line, the #80045 LEGO Monkie King Ultra Mech, the #80048 LEGO Monkie Kid Mighty Azure Lion, and the #80047 LEGO Monkie Kid Guardian Dragon are excellent examples.
What do you think? Do you like to build highly detailed fantasy creatures? How do you like the ones we discussed here? And do you have any favorite LEGO sets that you recommend as an example for such builds? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below!

The asura that looks a little bit like a samurai is incredible! I have been looking at the pictures for like the last half an hour!
Incredible builds. I wonder if he keeps them built or takes them apart and start anew. That’s a lot of special parts!
I have built some of the large lego mechs. They are fun to build, but honestly, I don’t know what I’m supposed to do with them afterwards. They are too big and bulky. I have to say though that they are much more stable than the mechs they made a decade ago.
