As you may remember from our previous discussion, the #21344 LEGO Ideas Orient Express is going to be available from the 1st of December via official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.
This is the LEGO version of one of the world’s most legendary trains, the Orient Express. This ‘rolling palace’ was the world’s first international luxury train that carried thousands of passengers across Europe to Istanbul from 1883 to 1977. Released to celebrate the train’s 140th anniversary, the new 2,540-piece LEGO set transports builders back to the Golden Age of travel, with some stunning features including the main locomotive, tender, dining, and sleeping cars. The set also features removable roofs to allow access to detailed interiors, and eight LEGO minifigures including the conductor, a chef, staff, and passengers.
A couple of days ago, LEGO released the designer-video for the set featuring Arthur Mettetal, Heritage and Culture Director at Orient Express, LEGO Designer Ollie Gregory, and LEGO Fan Designer Thomas Lajon. Watch the video below to journey through the rich history and wonders of this iconic train, and the design process of its authentic interpretation in LEGO bricks.

Definite buy. Haven’t been this excited about a train for a long time.
Carriages are great. Loco is weak but acceptable. Lots of parts wasted in the display plinth
I agree about the stance. They should just have included a cull circle of regular tracks and leave it at that. But I really like the loco.
This might have to be my first train. I almost bought the Hogwart’s express on Black Friday, but I still can’t get over JKR’s TERFing. Hopefully this one ends up being easier to convert to powered, and that will sell me on it.
Well, that was entertaining to watch. It’s awesome that they let the fan designer visit the train!
