The Online LEGO Shop already lists many sets available in January. I have been browsing the various themes and categories and building up my wish list. A quirky collection that caught my eye is the LEGO City line featuring soapbox cars, also known as gravity racers. Soapbox racing is plenty of fun in real life, and these little sets perfectly capture the spirit of the sport.
The main set in the collection is the #60460 LEGO City No Limits: Race Car Ramp Track featuring a buildable ramp and two soapbox racers. One looks like a hot dog, while the other is shaped like a toilet with a plumber. At the ramp’s peak, there is a lever to flick to send the cars hurling from the start line. Such simple fun! The four minifigs are a hot dog vendor, a plumber, a race official, and a mechanic in a wheelchair. This set is going to be $49.99 and will be available starting in January at the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.
You can add more hilarious vehicles to the race with the #60458 LEGO City Pizza vs. Fire Truck, and the #60459 LEGO City Aeroplane vs. Hospital Bed. These add-on sets are going to be $9.99 each and include two vehicles and two drivers. They will also be available starting in January at the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.
The collection was designed by Rik Pauwels, a longtime member of the LEGO fan community who was hired by LEGO as a set designer in 2022. Since then, Rik has designed several sets in the LEGO City line.
I like little collections like this. They won’t break the bank, they provide hours of fun, and they encourage creativity and customization. I definitely plan to get them when they become available.
