It’s time to take a trip down memory lane and dive into the magic of the 90s! From iconic TV shows to unforgettable movies that shaped an entire generation, the 90s were a powerhouse of creativity and cultural impact. Now, the LEGO Ideas team is inviting you to channel that nostalgia into an epic LEGO build that celebrates this amazing decade of entertainment!
You might remember that a few months ago they ran a contest celebrating the 80s. Two winning projects from that contest will be made into official LEGO Ideas sets, featuring The Goonies and Gizmo from Gremlins. The winning model will also be made into an official LEGO Ideas set in this new contest.
To truly honor the 90s, the LEGO Ideas team crafted two exciting challenges that capture the era’s diverse and rich movie and TV scenes. After all, the 90s were a vibrant mix of everything – from blockbuster hits to cult classics, action-packed adventures to heartfelt dramas. Whether you’re inspired by TV shows or legendary films, in this contest you have a chance to capture the 90s entertainment spirit with LEGO bricks!

The grand prize winner for the fan vote will see their build turned into a LEGO set. They’ll also receive credit and compensation as described in the Product Ideas guidelines and Terms of Service. This means they will receive: 1% of the total net sales of the product, 10 complimentary copies of their LEGO Ideas set, and credit and a bio as the LEGO Ideas fan designer in the set materials. The runner-pp for the fan vote will receive the following sets: #21351 LEGO Ideas Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, #21350 LEGO Ideas Jaws, #21345 LEGO Ideas Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera.
This contest has several phases, including the Building Phase (submit your build by January 6th, 2025 at 6:00 AM EST). During the Expert Phase, the LEGO Ideas team will review and select up to 5 builds to move to the fan vote on February 10th, 2025. During the voting phase, LEGO Ideas members can vote one time for their favorite build between February 10th, 2025 and February 21st, 2025. The votes will decide the grand prize winner and the runner-up of the challenge. Results will be posted on LEGO Ideas no later than June 2nd, 2025. Please remember that entrants must be 16+ years old to participate in this contest. For all the details and rules, visit the LEGO Ideas contest page.
When you visit the LEGO Ideas contest page, you will notice that the website got an update and it now looks different. According to the LEGO Ideas team, the functionality isn’t changing and how you interact will remain the same. However, what you will discover is a brighter clearer layout, better connections between entries and their challenges, and an easier way to access comments. Bundle this up with an improved mobile layout and easier voting overviews, which hopefully will result in you having a better browsing experience.

I don’t know how I feel about the new website. Everything is now so big. Yes it looks better on my phone. But I mostly visit the site from my laptop. So much wasted space.
Haha. I was expecting this. After the ’80s contest. By the way they updated the list of ips and I think they added a lot more. So there are a lot more choices for this contest.
Cool! So I guess two sets will come out of this!
Having lived through the 90’s, i guess it was a more messy decade than when seen from a distance. Anyway, which films and TV shows did I like?
Disney’s Aladdin and The Nightmare Before Christmas were pretty funny. Seinfeld, although I don’t think a second set would add that much, Ally McBeal, although it might not hold wide appeal outside of hardcore fans, Sailor Moon, although licensing deals might be complicated, Batman TAS, which has gotten several shoutouts, anyway.
