LEGO Adventure Time & LEGO deal hunting!

As a little bit of an after Christmas surprise, LEGO decided to release the new #21308 LEGO Ideas Adventure Time set a few days ahead of schedule. Also, talking about after Christmas, remember that most retailers will offer their leftover inventory at steep discounts to free up shelf-space for items coming in the new year. So let’s take a look at the new LEGO Ideas set a bit more closely, and we will also discuss some of the best places to look for discounted LEGO after the holidays. 🙂

The LEGO Adventure Time project, originally submitted by Ludovic Piraud (a.k.a. aBetterMonkey) on LEGO Ideas, quickly received the required 10K public votes and was approved to become an official LEGO set. While the final product is quite similar to the original submission, LEGO did reduce the initially proposed fifteen characters to just eight. (Picture above is of the actual set, picture below is the original submission.) Finn, Jake, Princess Bubblegum, Lady Rainicorn, Marceline, BMO, Ice King and Gunter are all there, but sadly some of the characters, like Lumpy Space Princess, were cut from the selection.

The characters are all brick-built, taking advantage of the new, smaller ball-joint elements for articulation. Unfortunately, LEGO only produces these parts in gray, thus the colors on the arms are a bit weird, but not too jarring. All the decorated parts you see in the set are printed, and there is an excellent selection of other interesting pieces and colors as well. If you are an Adventure Time fan, I think you will be very pleased with this set, and if you don’t care for this long-standing (and still going strong!) pop culture cult favorite, you might still take a look at the set for the interesting parts and building techniques. Below is the official description.

The other new 2017 LEGO sets won’t be listed until January 1st, however in the meantime you can take a look at what’s on clearance sale. LEGO actually did a major clearance shortly before Christmas, so they may not have as many sets on sale as previous years, but it is still a good ideas to check with your local LEGO store (if you have one), and keep an eye on the Sales and Deals section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Other places you can check for discounted LEGO after the holidays is at big-box stores like Wal-Mart, Target, and Toys’R’Us. Keep in mind that many times labels on the boxes and prices on the shelves will not be adjusted right away due to the after Christmas chaos, but you can take up the boxes to one of the price-checking stations to get the most current price. It is a bit inconvenient, but the good thing about it is that nobody else will know that LEGO is on sale, so you don’t have to fight the competition.

If you plan to look for deals online, you can check the websites of all the above mentioned big-box stores, and also the Amazon LEGO Store. Usually Amazon’s prices are the best as they like to undercut everyone else, so if you only plan to check at one place that would be your best option. Here is the link: AMAZON LEGO STORE

Those are the places I would check for after Christmas LEGO sales, and if you find any good deals, you are welcome to post them as well. Members of the online LEGO fan community have been great at alerting each other about discounts at this time of the year. I will update this page in the comment section as myself and others are finding LEGO sets on sale, and you can do the same. Happy LEGO huntin’! 😉

Merry Christmas & happy LEGO-filled holidays!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! This is the time to play with your LEGO Winter Village sets and all the new sets that Santa brought! We have already talked about different ways to set up and expand your LEGO Winter Village (see links at the end of this post), and today I will show you a fun video about what it takes for Santa to deliver all those gifts! 🙂

The video below was done by LEGO fan AlmightyArjen. It features the LEGO Christmas Village sets, as well as both the #10173 LEGO Holiday Train from 2006, and the #10254 LEGO Winter Holiday Train from 2016. The stop-motion animation is great, the story is fun, and there are also some interesting twists and turns. Enjoy!

That was fun, isn’t it? AlmightyArjen uploaded the train station featured in the video to LEGO Ideas, so if you would like to support it, you can find it at this link. What about you? Did you set up your LEGO Christmas Village this year? And did Santa bring you some great LEGO sets? Have you built any of them yet? Feel free to share in the comment section below! 😉
