LEGO Lord of the Rings Minas Tirith & Companion Sets

As we discussed a couple of days ago, one of the new sets this month is the beautiful #11377 LEGO Lord of the Rings: Minas Tirith set depicting the legendary capital of Gondor. The hybrid-scale model combines an intricate microscale city exterior with minifigure-scale interior detailing, including the citadel’s grand throne room.

The set also comes with ten minifigures; Gandalf the White, Faramir, Denethor, Peregrin Took, Aragorn as King Elessar, Arwen, and four soldiers of Gondor, plus Shadowfax. This is a massive set that includes 8,278 pieces and measures over 59 cm (23.5 in.) high, 62 cm (24.5 in.) wide, and 37 cm (14.5 in.) deep. The price is equally massive at $649.99 at the LEGO Lord of the Rings section of the Online LEGO Shop.

To sweeten the deal, LEGO is currently offering the #40893 LEGO Lord of the Rings Grond set free with the purchase of the #11377 LEGO Lord of the Rings: Minas Tirith until June 7th. The set features the fearsome battering ram forged by Sauron’s servants during the Siege of Minas Tirith to break down the city’s Great Gate. It is scaled perfectly to pair with the Minas Tirith set. The ram has the face of a snarling wolf and is functional. Two Orcs are also included. If you’re planning to get Minas Tirith, I would highly recommend picking it up before the 7th so you can also get the freebie. It plays a major part in such an important scene!

There is also a lesser-known and extremely limited companion set to Minas Tirith, which is called Siege Tower (no set number). This set was available at the LEGO Lord of the Rings Make & Take event at participating LEGO stores. You had to be a LEGO Insider and register for a ticket through LEGO’s event page after it was announced during the set reveal livestream. Availability was capped at less than 15 per store. Several LEGO fans were kind enough to upload copies of the instruction pages, which you can find at several LEGO forums as well as on Brickset.com.

If you’re curious about the LEGO Minas Tirith set, I have included a video review below which will show you all the details. It’s a gorgeous display piece for sure, and it even has some nice play features!

What do you think? How do you like the new Minas Tirith set and companion sets? Are you planning to get them? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below!
