What would you like on the LEGO PAB Wall?

You may remember our discussions about the LEGO Pick & Build Wall (formerly Pick-A-Brick Wall) changes at LEGO brand stores (see links at the end of this post). While some of the new features already made their way to European locations, others were only implemented in North America on a trial basis. One of these trial features for the PAB Wall was the Fan Favorite section, which includes LEGO elements that are considered popular with adult LEGO fans. 🙂

LEGO Pick-A-Brick Wall Selection

First, the Fan Favorite section of the PAB Wall was only introduced in a few stores, however since it was received so enthusiastically, it was later implemented in all locations across North America, and was taken out of the initial pilot phase to become a regular feature. Based on feedback by LEGO fans and sales performance data, LEGO elements that will be included in the Fan Favorite section of the PAB Wall in 2017 have been selected already.

However, LEGO would like to get feedback from the community in regards to the 2018 Fan Favorite section, so they created a survey for LEGO Ambassadors to fill out on behalf of their communities. LEGO encourages all LEGO fans to participate and share their thoughts about the program, even if you don’t directly benefit from it at this point (i.e. you don’t live close to a LEGO store, or you live in a country where LEGO stores haven’t implemented the new features yet). Although there is no specific timeframe for a rollout across Europe and Asia at this point, LEGO is exploring the possibilities, so hopefully it will be available globally soon.

Below I have enclosed the questions that I will need to answer on behalf of our readers and subscribers. If you would like to see the current LEGO color palette, you can refer to the chart above (see larger a version of the image on Brickset). The element list is available at the following link (please note that this is a large Excel file that may take a few minutes to open): 2017 LEGO ELEMENT LIST

  1. Which colors would you like to see on the Pick & Build Wall in the future? Please provide the LEGO color ID numbers found on the LEGO color palette (allow a maximum of 20 numbers).
  2. What LEGO element shapes would you like to see on the Pick & Build Wall in the future? Please provide the LEGO Design ID found in the LEGO element list (allow a maximum of 30 numbers).
  3. On a scale of 1 – 10, how likely are you to recommend the Fan Favorite selection on the PAB Wall to others? (1 being the least likely and 10 being the most.)
  4. On a scale of 1 – 10, how likely are you to recommend the Pick & Build Wall within LEGO brand stores to others? (1 being the least likely and 10 being the most.)
  5. Do you have any ideas, suggestions or feedback regarding the PAB Wall within LEGO brand stores?
  6. Do you have any ideas, suggestions or feedback regarding LEGO brand retail stores in general?

The deadline for me to fill out the survey is January 13, so please finalize your feedback a couple of days before that date, leaving me enough time to gather all the data before submitting it. You are welcome to share your feedback all at once, or just answer one question at a time. This is a great opportunity for all of us to tell LEGO what we would like to see on the PAB Wall, so take advantage of it. 😉

LEGO Ideas Handheld Arcade Game

We haven’t talked about LEGO Ideas projects for a while, so today I wanted to show you one that I really liked. The LEGO Handheld Arcade by mjsmiley. It brings together everything LEGO and arcade games are known for; exciting play either by yourself or with a partner, creative building opportunities, and lots of fun! 🙂

Here is the description from the LEGO Ideas page: Bring action games to life with this rebuildable handheld game system. The idea starts out as a dual-paddle handheld game platform that can have countless different games built upon it. Some of the first games already developed are Skee Ball, Space Pinball, Baseball, Targets/Archery, and Soccer/Football. The best part of the idea is that anyone can create new games for it with their own LEGO elements.

The paddles can be pressed hard or soft for some finer maneuvering, and because this is a handheld game, it is up to the player to adjust the tilt, and thus the degree of difficulty. Another interesting feature is that two game units can be linked together for two-player competition games. Below is a list of the included games:

  • Skee Ball: launch the ball up the ramp and attempt to land it in the center of the big red bull’s eye.
  • Targets/Archery: Shoot the ball at top speeds to flip the 5 targets up.
  • Space Pinball: Send the ball amidst multiple obstacles and if you hit the trigger enough times, the rocket will launch!
  • Soccer/Football: Re-use many pieces from the Skee Ball target to build a soccer goal. The sports figure will swing about when hit as you aim for the goal.
  • Baseball: Two players optional. Hit the ball and move your players according to the color you land in. Red = Out, Yellow = Single, Green = Double. Keep track of scores and outs on the side rail. Three outs, and you change players and see who gets the most runs.
  • Vs. Targets: Hook two systems up with the targets game layout. Attempt to pass the ball over to the other player’s board without hitting your own targets. First player to flip all targets loses.

In many ways, this game is similar to the #21305 LEGO Ideas Maze that is scheduled to retire soon; you set up the gameboard, and guide a ball around to achieve goals. Personally, I really like the LEGO Ideas Maze, and have played with it many times. I feel that the arcade game can even become more popular due to the smaller and more portable size. Also, I would imagine that the two-player option can be very fun. In the video below you can see the game in action.

Looks fun, isn’t it? If you are interested in this project, you can find more details on their LEGO Ideas page. Please keep in mind that now projects only have 60 days to achieve 100 votes. If they reach that first milestone, they are given a full year to reach 10,000 votes – the requirement for LEGO to consider the project for production. So if you like this project, and would like it to become an official LEGO set, please vote, and also share with our friends: VOTE FOR LEGO IDEAS HANDHELD ARCADE
