Pharrell Williams is a visionary recording artist, producer, songwriter, philanthropist, entrepreneur, and Creative Director for Louis Vuitton menswear with 10B combined global music streams to date. He has been honored with 13 Grammy Awards, including 2004, 2014, and 2019 Producer of the Year, and ASCAP’s Golden Note Award in 2012. He has received two Academy Award nominations for his original song “Happy” (Despicable Me 2) and for Best Picture-nominated Hidden Figures (2016) as Producer. Williams also received a Golden Globe Nomination for co-scoring the film. In 2019, Williams received an Emmy-nomination for his original song “Letter to My Godfather,” for Netflix’s Black Godfather about legendary music executive Clarence Avant. In 2020, Williams was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame for his work as The Neptunes.

In 2018, Pharrell narrated Universal’s remake of the classic film The Grinch, authored the book A Fish Doesn’t Know It’s Wet, and released the Netflix Original series Brainchild (2018) with his producing partner, Mimi Valdés. Other projects include Dope (2015), Roxanne Roxanne (2017), Voices of Fire (2020), and Amazon’s Harlem, which has been renewed for a third season.

Today’s announcement also sees the release of a new LEGO set designed in collaboration with Pharrell. The #10391 LEGO Over the Moon is a space shuttle with a golden canopy and a vibrant jet stream of colors. For Pharrell, the infinity of space was the first catalyst for his imagination, showing him that there are no limits to what we can explore.

Pharrell believes that curiosity and creativity are essential life forces in all of us and credits them as the building blocks of his success. The LEGO Group is proud to partner with Pharrell to encourage people of all ages to use play and building to share their stories.

“Growing up, I was obsessed with space and the infinite possibilities it represents,” said Pharrell. “This partnership aims to inspire creativity and inclusivity. With my LEGO Over the Moon set I want everyone to feel seen and empowered to imagine their own stories. The spaceship is blasting off, and you’re in the pilot seat.”

Over the Moon is made up of three parts, with each holding a special meaning for Pharrell. The black-and-gold shuttle symbolizes limitless potential, taking off and transporting you anywhere you can imagine. The bright and vibrant colors of the jet stream symbolize the imagination, creativity, and power of play to fuel your way. And finally, befitting Pharrell’s relentless pursuit to push boundaries and ensure that everyone can feel represented and seen, the LEGO Over the Moon set features the widest range of minifigure skin tones included in a LEGO product, with seven in total. 51 different minifigure heads are included, over 30 of which have been designed specifically for this set.

The new set also includes several brand-new color-piece combos, created specifically for this project, such as the custom-made windscreen canopy made in drum-lacquered gold color for the first time ever.

“Our values for over 90 years have been rooted in creativity, curiosity and imagination. Pharrell is unique in his ability to draw on those qualities to influence his art. A true icon of our time, he never fails to innovate and inspire his audience, through any of his many endeavors” said Julia Goldin, Chief Marketing and Product Officer from the LEGO Group. “Through our partnership, we want to inspire people of all ages to unlock their own limitless potential through LEGO Play. This is a shared mission, and we’re excited to take off today.”

Pharrell’s collaboration with the LEGO Group will extend to his non-profit foundation, YELLOW, which works to even the odds for children through education. This collaboration will see the launch of a new LEGO Build the Change global challenge, bringing more creative play to kids worldwide.

The launch of Over the Moon comes ahead of the release of Focus Features’ PIECE BY PIECE, which will debut in US theatres on the 11th of October, and internationally beginning the 6th of November. Directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville and featuring new original music from Pharrell, PIECE BY PIECE is a unique cinematic experience that invites audiences on a vibrant journey through the life of cultural icon Pharrell Williams. Developed from Pharrell’s singular vision, PIECE BY PIECE defies genres and expectations to transport audiences into a LEGO world where anything is possible.

The #10391 LEGO Over the Moon set will be available at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop from September 20th, bringing boundless fun to curious individuals everywhere. The set will be priced at $109.99 / €109.99 / £94.99. For more info, visit the LEGO Icons section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The LEGO Friends collection is full of fantastic sets this year! We looked at several of the recently released sets already (see links at the end of this post), and today we will discuss the set that particularly piqued the interest of adult LEGO fans; the #42638 LEGO Friends Bed & Breakfast. So what’s so special about this set?

The #42638 LEGO Friends Bed & Breakfast is a 3-story French-style château set up like a hotel. The background story is that one of the characters, Renée, renovated the historic château, transforming it into a welcoming hotel. On the first floor, there’s the front desk and a sunroom. There’s a bedroom on the second floor along with a cozy living room and balcony. You will find the main suite and the bathroom with a claw-foot bathtub on the third floor, and there is also a mysterious attic with its historical artifacts. The set is recommended for kids ages 12 and up, but as I mentioned, there is also a lot of interest from adult builders.

First of all, the set comes with lots of useful pieces in beautiful and unique colors, including all the light-nougat windows, beautiful sand-blue turrets, and decor pieces in various shades of blue. The set is also inexpensive for what you get; 1,311 pieces for $99.99 make this an excellent parts-pack.

However, the main attraction to this set is that its style is very similar to that of LEGO modular buildings. Like other LEGO Friends sets, the back of the Bed & Breakfast is open for play, but the front is highly detailed and decorated, and thus it’s relatively easy to turn it into a full-size LEGO Modular Building.

If you’re interested in turning the #42638 LEGO Friends Bed & Breakfast into a LEGO Modular Building, there are several ways to approach the challenge. One is to keep the front intact, widen the floors towards the back, and enclose the back section with a fairly simple rectangle shape like most other LEGO Modular Buildings. An excellent example of this is demonstrated by LEGO fan designer Brick Artisan. Their model only requires an extra 230 pieces to build up the back section for a fully enclosed structure in LEGO Modular Building style. You can download the parts-list and building instructions for a few dollars on Rebrickable.com.

Another way to approach the project is to turn the #42638 LEGO Friends Bed & Breakfast into a half LEGO Modular Building on a 16×32 baseplate. This requires removing the wraparound porch, but the structure retains most of its charming features. LEGO fan designer Brick Artisan has an example of this as well with a downloadable parts-list and building instructions at Rebrickable.com.

And because the style of the #42638 LEGO Friends Bed & Breakfast is so lovely, you might also consider making it wider. LEGO fan re-bricked removed the wrap-around balcony and basically doubled up the front in a mirror image fashion. A nice feature of this modification is that it simply needs two copies of the set plus a 32×32 baseplate with no other parts required. Parts-list and building instructions are available at Rebrickable.com.

Yet another way to make the #42638 LEGO Friends Bed & Breakfast into a full-size building is to enclose it doll-house style with a hinged back section. The benefit of this approach is that you have access to all levels from the back just like in the original set. However, you won’t be able to incorporate it with other LEGO Modular Buildings as they are pushed against each other and are accessible from the top. LEGO fan designer Brick Artisan is providing a parts-list and building instructions for this version also at Rebrickable.com.

The #42638 LEGO Friends Bed & Breakfast is such a delightful set and it has so much potential for customization. If you want to check it out, you can find it at the LEGO Friends section of the Online LEGO Shop.
