LEGO Super Heroes Mighty Micros review

Tiny LEGO sets are cute, affordable, collectable, and very popular. It seems that the LEGO Company is very aware of the popularity of small sets, and they have been making them available in a variety of LEGO themes; LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series, LEGO Mixels, LEGO Friends animals, LEGO Star Wars Micro Fighters, various LEGO polybags, and now LEGO Super Heroes Mighty Micros. While these small sets may not be the most profitable for the company, they are excellent impulse buys, and entry level sets to much larger purchases. This is especially true when the small sets come in a collectable series. 🙂

LEGO Mighty Micros

The recently released LEGO Super Heroes Mighty Micros is a series of small sets with tiny go-cart like vehicles and mini super heroes. So far there are six sets in the collection; three for Marvel and three for DC Comics. For the Marvel universe we got #76064 LEGO Mighty Micros: Spider-Man vs. Green Goblin, #76065 LEGO Mighty Micros: Captain America vs. Red Skull, and #76066 LEGO Mighty Micros: Hulk vs. Ultron. The LEGO DC Comics line includes the #76061 LEGO Mighty Micros: Batman vs. Catwoman, #76062 LEGO Mighty Micros: Robin vs. Bane, and #76063 LEGO Mighty Micros: The Flash vs. Captain Cold.

The vehicles are built on a new four-stud base piece to accommodate the very closely set wheels, and are sturdy enough to keep the vehicles together even under rough play. The body of the vehicles are built up with various accessories to match each character. They are quite creative and fun, and all the decorations are printed (instead of stickers). The minifigures have short legs and simplified/cartoonish features – they look super cute. Also, because the short legs can’t bend, and thus the minifigs can’t sit down, they are just standing inside the vehicles on two studs – which also facilitates the vehicles being so small.

The smallness, cuteness, affordability and playability are going to make these sets irresistible to collectors. LEGO Super Heroes minifigs are already very popular with collectors, and I predict these sets will only increase the number of people who get into the hobby. After all, who wouldn’t want a shorty Batman or Hulk? In the video-reviews below by JANGBRiCKS you can see all the sets in more detail.

Each of the LEGO Super Heroes Mighty Macros sets are $9.99, for which you get two vehicles and two minifigs, so even with just one set you get quite a bit of play-value. And if you get all six sets for some major super hero action, they still won’t break the bank. This is one of those winning LEGO collections that will appeal to kids, adults and collectors. You can find them all under the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes and LEGO DC Super Heroes section of the Online LEGO Shop.

I got some of the most recent releases from UK-based minifig customizer Minifigures.com that I wanted to show you today. If you are not familiar with Minifigures.com, I wrote an overall review about their products and operation here: Custom LEGO Printing by Minifigures.com. Their focus is on premium quality custom minifigures – mostly historic and political characters, and television and film personalities. And they also do custom minifigures for events and companies. Their quality is really top notch, as you will see from the minifigs mentioned here.

Under the political characters category, the newest minifigure is Martin Luther King, Jr. He comes with a black suit and custom printed head. Only the front of the suit is printed, the rest of the torso and legs are plain. All custom minifigs released by Minifigures.com come in a sturdy plastic case with a custom-printed full color card including the minifigs’ name at the front and short bio at the back. They are true collectors items.

Another recently released historic character in minifig form is American aviation pioneer and author Amelia Earhart. Earhart was the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. The minifig comes with a custom printed head, and the torso is printed front, back and on both arms. On some pictures it looks like this minifig suppose to have printed boots, but on mine her legs are unprinted. Accessories include a standard LEGO aviator’s helmet, goggles and a very nice custom printed map.

As far as film characters, my recent favorite is Jesse Pinkman from the television series Breaking Bad. This minifig is printed from head to toe, and highlights perfectly the printing abilities of Minifigures.com: the face, the front, back and arms of the jacket, as well as the hips and feet of the minifig are all printed. Notice how smoothly the printing transitions from the torso to the hips where the jacket hangs over. I wish LEGO would print so flawlessly! Accessories include Jesse’s iconic beanie hat and a little bag of freshly cooked meth printed on a 1×2 tile.

Another film character is named Brick Grimes, based on Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead. Here also, the face, the front and back of the torso, the arms, the hips, and the legs are all printed. Also notice the sling strap printed on the front and back of the right leg. I believe the hat is from the LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 13 Sheriff, because the printing looks exactly the same. The included revolver is a custom piece.

The next minifigure I will show you here is Executive Officer Kane from the movie Alien. The back of the display-card for this minifigure gives the following description: “When you think of the film Alien, aside from the Aliens, you think of the ‘Chest burst’ scene and becomes one of the most iconic scenes from cinema. Naturally we had to create a Minifigure to pay homage to the film and we’ve spared no details. He’s ‘bursting’ with awesomeness and includes a double sided head and torso design.” So yeah, here we have a minifig with an alien creature bursting out of his chest. This minifig is under the “Reversibles” category – a series of minifigs where the parts can be turned around for a different effect, essentially giving you two different minifigs in one. In the case of Kane, he has a double-sided head and double-sided torso. On one side the alien is still inside and Kane is looking concerned, on the other side the alien already burst out and Kane is all freaked out.

And best for last, my favorite minifig is Mr. Melty, the snowman. His facial print is very cute with a carrot nose, and he actually comes with an alternate partially melted face on the other side of his head. The torso is printed both front and back with a brightly colored scarf and some outlines. He also got a standard LEGO top hat, and a white splash piece from LEGO customizer BrickForge.com. So you can have Mr. Melty melt into a puddle by just placing the head over the top of the splash piece, or you can even attach the head with a LEGO Technic half pin.

Minifigures.com doesn’t have a huge selection of minifigs, but what they have are excellent, and they are adding new characters all the time. You can visit the Minifigures.com website to see the current selection, and you can also sign up for their newsletter to get notified about new releases.
