The most expensive LEGO Technic set to date is the recently released #42146 LEGO Technic Liebherr Crawler Crane LR13000 retailing for a whopping $699.99. The crane also holds the record for being the tallest LEGO Technic model up to this point in time, measuring over 39 in. (100 cm) high, 43 in. (110 cm) long, and 11 in. (28 cm) wide. Previously, we have only seen such massive cranes from LEGO Technic fans, so it’s really interesting to see how LEGO’s own designers handled the challenge of building a large model like this while also keeping it builder and user-friendly for the retail market.
The #42146 LEGO Technic Liebherr Crawler Crane LR13000 comes with tank steering, a rotating turntable, a luffing jib, a winch, and load-sensing features. 24 weight elements provide over 2lb (0.9kg) counterweight to make sure this big boy doesn’t tip over.
The model comes with 2 smart hubs and 6 large motors to power the articulated functions (requires 12 AA batteries, which are not included). The crane can be controlled with the CONTROL+ app which also provides stats and challenges.
In the first video below, Balazs from RacingBrick provides a detailed review of the set including all the new parts, interesting details of the building process, and all the features and functions of the crane as well as the app. In the second video, Balazs compares the model to other LEGO Technic cranes, and then performs a series of lifting tests.
I know this set is not for everyone due to the enormous size and price, but it’s still great to see such amazing sets getting released for LEGO Technic fans. If you do want to check it out, it’s currently available at the LEGO Technic section of the Online LEGO Shop.
