LEGO Creator Winter Toy Shop available now!

The #10249 LEGO Creator Winter Toy Shop is now available for LEGO VIP members. While we are still a few months from Christmas, if you are planning to get this set, I would suggest you pick it up early to make sure you don’t miss out. While LEGO will certainly restock the set for a while, they tend to run out as we get closer to the holiday season. The official release will be on October 1st, but if you are a LEGO VIP member you get early access. 🙂

#10249 LEGO Winter Village Toy Shop

As we have discussed previously (see: LEGO Winter Village Toy Shop Coming!) the #10249 LEGO Creator Winter Toy Shop is almost the exact replica of the very first LEGO Winter Village set, the #10199 LEGO Winter Village Toy Shop from 2009. If you missed out on that one here is your chance to get the second version. Some of the parts have been updated, an extra minifig has been added, and the caroler minifigures have new printing on both their bodies and faces. Below is the official description.

#10249 LEGO Winter Village Toy Shop Inside

A lot of LEGO fans have been upset about the re-release because it disrupts their yearly family tradition of building up the LEGO Winter Village scene. However it is interesting to note that based on discussions with LEGO employees it has become clear that LEGO was in fact not aware that people looked at the Christmas sets as a series. Nor did they know that building the sets together with kids and grandkids have become a family holiday tradition. In fact, in a recent conversation with LEGO designer Jamie Berard, it was revealed that LEGO wasn’t even planning to release a Christmas set this year (the #10245 LEGO Creator Santa’s Workshop from last year is still available). Jamie does have a design for a brand new set, but management was not ready to put resources into it yet. So he talked them into doing a rerelease with some updates to bridge the gap.

#10249 LEGO Winter Village Toy Shop Minifigures

The good thing that came out of all of this is that LEGO got the message about how important these sets have become for families during the holidays. I hope they will take this seriously and will continue the tradition. So much more could be added to the delightful LEGO Winter Village! The new #10249 LEGO Creator Winter Toy Shop is actually very sweet, there is no dispute about that. The building, the Christmas tree, the lamp and other accessories are all delightful. So if you missed out the first time you will be very happy with this set. And even if you have the first version already, you might consider picking this up just for the parts and minifigures. If you are creative, you can modify it a bit to make a slightly different building in your LEGO Christmas Village layout. You might be surprised about what you and your family come up with! 😀

If you are a LEGO VIP member you can get the #10249 LEGO Creator Winter Toy Shop right now at LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop. Also, don’t forget about the other Christmas sets like the LEGO Advent Calendars and last years #10245 LEGO Creator Santa’s Workshop. They can be found under the Seasonal Items section of the Online LEGO Shop.

The LEGO Club & its influence on AFOLs

There is an interesting discussion on the LEGO Ambassador Forum exploring the LEGO Club’s influence on teen and adult LEGO fans. The LEGO Club team would like to find out how being a club member might have influenced LEGO fans’ passion for building and for the LEGO brand in general. If you would like to share your thoughts on this, read on. 🙂

LEGO Club Magazines

As you probably know already, the LEGO Club targets kids and has three major aspects. The first one is the LEGO Club website where you can read digital versions of LEGO Club Magazine issues, read interesting articles, watch videos, get building ideas and instructions, enter contests, and more. The second aspect is the physical LEGO Club Magazine that kids can get in the mail, and the third is the LEGO Club activities at official LEGO stores.

LEGO Club Website

While relatively few people will live close to a LEGO store to participate in the monthly LEGO Club activities, anyone can interact with the LEGO Club website, and the physical LEGO Club Magazine is available in most countries where LEGO has a major presence. (If you have been around LEGO long enough, you may also be familiar with earlier versions of the magazine titled Brick Kicks, the LEGO Mania Magazine, and the LEGO Magazine). So most of the questions in this discussion will relate to how the LEGO Club Magazine affected your interest in the LEGO hobby. Below are the questions asked by the LEGO Club team:

Are you currently a LEGO Club member? Or were you a LEGO Club member in the past?

What’s your history with the LEGO Club? For example, how old were you when you first began receiving the LEGO Club Magazine? Who signed you up? Did you stop receiving the magazine? How are you currently using the LEGO Club offerings?

As a child, what was your favorite thing about receiving the LEGO Club Magazine?

Do you recall how the LEGO Club influenced your LEGO play? Any particular moments and memories you associate with the LEGO Club in general and the magazine more specifically?

When you think of yourself today, how might the LEGO Club have influenced you to become a passionate and engaged LEGO builder?

LEGO Club Magazine Samples

Most kids (and even teens and adults) I know eagerly look forward to the LEGO Club Magazine and the LEGO Sales Catalog. And this was especially true before the internet became widely used. LEGO mailing were pretty much the only way to learn about new LEGO sets, see what other people were building, read about the stories of various LEGO themes and characters, get building ideas and inspirations, and in general be part of the larger LEGO fan community. These days kids can find most LEGO related information on the internet, but it is still cool to receive your very own magazine in the mail.

So what has been your experience and interaction with the LEGO Club, and the LEGO Club Magazine? If you would like to participate in this discussion, feel free to share in the comment section below! You can respond to the questions above, and add other thought and observations as well. I will gather all the responses and share them with the LEGO Club team. 🙂
