LEGO sets retiring soon & sales updates

When shopping for the holidays many LEGO fans focus on the newest sets, however it is also a good idea to check out the LEGO Sets Retiring Soon and the LEGO Sales & Deals sections of the Online LEGO Shop. This is especially true towards the end of the year when many sets get put and sale and retired to give space for the sets of the new year. So let’s take a look at what is getting cleared out right now, and you can also use the links in the right-hand side-bar to check regularly before the end of the year. 🙂

LEGO SETS RETIRING SOON: There are several LEGO Star Wars sets that are getting retired to give room for the 2015 LEGO Star War sets. Some of the highlights include the #75018 LEGO Star Wars Jek-14’s Stealth Starfighter, the #75019 LEGO Star Wars AT-TE, the #75022 LEGO Star Wars Mandalorian Speeder, the #75039 LEGO Star Wars V-wing Starfighter, and the #9493 LEGO Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter. None of them are listed for sale, just that they are retiring soon. In my experience if and when sets like this do go on sale they disappear so fast you will likely miss them. So if you are interested in any of these sets I would suggest you get them now before they are gone. You can find them all at the Retiring Soon section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Another theme that is retiring is LEGO Hero Factory, to give room for the return of LEGO BIONICLE next year. Most of the LEGO Hero Factory sets are already sold out, but there are a few left from the latest wave that you may want to consider. Even if you don’t want them for yourself, the mini heroes sell particularly well in the secondary market. You can find whatever is left at the Retiring Soon section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO Friends is of course not retiring as a theme as it is highly popular, however several of the individual sets are to give room to the new wave next year. The #3185 LEGO Friends Summer Riding Camp is a particularly nice set and it is listed for half price, and so is the #3186 LEGO Friends Emma’s Horse Trailer. You can’t go wrong with these sets as they are super sweet and have great resale value as well. You can fine them at the Retiring Soon section of the Online LEGO Shop.

One these that I’m sad to see go is the LEGO Master Builder Academy series. I own all four levels and highly recommend them (you can read my review on the sets here: New LEGO Master Builder Academy Available!). They are a great way to systematically learn advanced building techniques with LEGO, and the parts-selection is also excellent. Kids, teens and adults can all find value in this well thought out series. It never became available outside the USA even though there is an international demand. If you support your hobby by reselling LEGO sets, I would suggest that you seriously consider adding these to your inventory. Even buying them at full price will leave you plenty of room for profit when the sets get fully retired as LEGO fans and collectors will still be looking for them. You can find the sets at the Retiring Soon section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO SALES & DEALS: The LEGO Sales & Deals section of the Online LEGO Shop has a lot of the LEGO video games on sale. This includes LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, The LEGO Movie, LEGO The Hobbit, and LEGO Legends of Chima games. Other than these the only things listed right now are a few magnets, and miscellaneous gear. However this section is going to be very busy as we get closer to the end of the year, especially right after Christmas. So make sure you check it regularly. Here is the direct link (and the same link is also available in the right-hand side-bar at all times for your convenience): LEGO Sales & Deals at the Online LEGO Shop

Whether you are shopping for the holidays, or you would like to catch a set before it gets retired, or you are a collector or investor who specializes in discontinued LEGO sets, this is a great time to keep track of both the LEGO Sets Retiring Soon and the LEGO Sales & Deals sections of the Online LEGO Shop. You can find some great gems here, especially this time of the year.

So what do you think? Do you keep track and take advantage of LEGO sets that are getting retired or are on sale? Have you found some great deals? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

LEGO Creator Toy & Grocery Shop

As we have discussed previously (see: LEGO Creator Bike Shop & Cafe), one of the most interesting sets in 2014 has been the #31026 LEGO Creator Bike Shop & Cafe. I’m not going to repeat everything we have talked about in the previous post, but the bottom line is the LEGO Creator Bike Shop & Cafe is an excellent smaller alternative to the LEGO Modular Buildings, and it also comes with instructions for three different models, so you could buy multiple copies and build each one differently, creating a whole LEGO street! 🙂

Looks like LEGO is having good success with the LEGO Creator Bike Shop & Cafe, and in 2015 they are going to add another similar set, the #31036 LEGO Creator Toy & Grocery Shop. This is also a 3-in-1 model with several configurations. It is scheduled for release in January, but will likely appear in select stores in December.

To give you some further ideas about the possibilities with these sets, LEGO recently ran a contest on their Facebook Page, encouraging LEGO fans to build various accessories to the #31026 LEGO Creator Bike Shop & Cafe. Below are a couple of ideas they have shown. The bottom line is that these sets are fun, expandable, displayable, and it also looks like LEGO is committed to continue releasing similar sets in the future.

One of the questions that often comes up with these sets is if they are compatible with the LEGO Modular Buildings. The short answer is not really, as they are at a much smaller scale. While the LEGO Modular Buildings are at a pretty realistic scale compared to a human (represented by a minifig), the smaller LEGO Creator sets are as small as possible, and while they do look really good, they are way under normal proportions. However if you are a LEGO Modular Building collector, and you also like these smaller sets, you could expand on them, and add them to your LEGO Modular Building street. Below is an example from flickr member hs0104c. Just look at how naturally a larger version of the #31026 LEGO Creator Bike Shop & Cafe looks next to the #10218 LEGO Modular Pet Shop!

As I have mentioned, the LEGO Creator Toy & Grocery Shop will be available in January, and in the meantime you can get the #31026 LEGO Creator Bike Shop & Cafe at the Online LEGO Shop.
