LEGO CUUSOO project: LEGO birds

Love LEGO? Love birds? You will love LEGO Birds! Here is another LEGO CUUSOO project you might like to check out and support (remember; a LEGO project needs 10,000 votes for LEGO to consider production).

DeTomaso (Thomas Poulsom) is the creator of the LEGO Birds series shares the following about his inspirational LEGO CUUSOO project:

I find birds a great subject to build with LEGO. Being a gardener and bird-lover, I can’t believe I didn’t think of it sooner. I also think that if these birds were turned into official LEGO sets they would be inspirational to both children and adults.

I really enjoy matching the different colors and different features of our beautiful feathered friends and I hope that one day anybody else can have the chance to build their own birds from LEGO.

The plan is to build a series of LEGO birds for every continent around the world, that way everybody can have the chance to own their favorite native bird in LEGO form. I plan to make 7 birds for each series which I think is a good number for a set. This may change if there are more birds I’d like to build – which is most likely.

So far I have created a series of popular British Birds which I have tried to make as close to life-size as possible. This is the first in the series of LEGO birds. The more support I receive the more birds I will build and post on my CUUSOO LEGO project page.

In an ideal world, if this CUUSOO project reaches 10,000 supporters and passes the review, I would like each LEGO bird to be sold seperately with a little scene/perch and a little plaque with information about the specific bird. I think it would be a bonus to have a LEGO sound-brick somewhere in the build with the particular birds-song or call. 🙂

I have contacted the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) which is a great British bird charity. I hope to get them on board this LEGO project to help the LEGO birds take off. My idea is for some of the proceeds of this product to go to their great cause. I have also started on a new secret colorful series of LEGO birds due to a request from a newspaper that my LEGO birds will be featuring soon. 😉

To see the LEGO birds I’ve built so far in more detail you can visit my Flickr Gallery, but please don’t forget to support the project before you go elsewhere. It only takes a minute to register at CUUSOO and support this project. Please take the time to help make people aware how important these beautiful feathered creatures are (you can Tweet, Like and share below).

I really hope you enjoy these LEGO birds and support me to help them take off. I am also open to suggestions of future birds to build. Please comment and let me know which bird you would like to see and it could become reality.

How about you? What do you think of the LEGO birds series? I love birds myself and I’m an avid bird-watcher, so I really like this LEGO project. What are your thoughts? Share them in the comments below! 😉

Would you like to light up your LEGO sets? Brightening up your LEGO cities, cars, spaceships, and other LEGO creations, and make them come alive? LEGO does provide a light & power kit, but unfortunately it is $30, you only get 2 lights, and the battery-pack is really big! 🙁

However there is another solution for LEGO-fans: LifeLites! LifeLites provides micro lighting-systems, so you can easily add dynamic lighting effects to LEGO models, model railroads, dollhouses, and more!

The starter kit costs half the price of the LEGO lights, but gives twice the lights! Also, LifeLites are small and can fit anywhere. At the size of a LEGO brick these might as well be the smallest lighting kits in the world!

As you can see here, LifeLites are very small!

Just plop in your LifeLites kit where a 2×4 brick would go, leave a little area for the lights to go through, hook them up under a clear brick and there you go; lights in you LEGO bricks!  😛

LifeLites are used by many LEGO fans already. At the LifeLites Media Gallery you can view hundreds of LEGO creations with LifeLites. I included a few of them here for you to see. Also, for those of you who watch Maxx’s LEGO adventures in the Hero Factory episode you can see lots of them. And they even have a light-up lightsaber-blade for your Jedi Knights!

You can also automate LifeLites kits to light-up in certain sequences such as: Chase, Machine Gun, Fire, and Arc Welder. In the starter-kit alone there are 32 different kinds of variations. And most of the patterns come with two to three selectable speeds! Here is a great video to show some more LEGO models with LifeLites:

So what kind of LEGO creations can you use LifeLites for? Here is a small list I made up with ideas: traffic lights, house lights, car lights, eyes, airline lights, store lights, crystals, fires, light-up a displays, machine guns, spacecrafts, Christmas lights, engine throb, arc welder, airport runway, headlights, lasers, spotlights… as you can see, pretty much anything you can imagine! So I encourage you to play with the lights yourself and see what you can create. 🙂

If you are interested to try out LifeLites, you can buy the kits at their website at LifeLites.com. You can also get separate cables (such as flashing red, blue, multicolor and more), batteries and other accessories.  And you may also want to check out LifeLites Flickr Gallery for more ideas and LEGO creations with LifeLites: LifeLites Flickr Gallery.

So what do you think? Do you like to add lights to your LEGO creations? Have you tried LifeLites before? Share your thoughts and comments below! Also, this is my first post here, so feedback is appreciated! Thanks! 😉
