LEGO video with a sweet story to tell…

LEGO stop-motion videos (also known as “brickfilms”) are a labor of love. Each movement has to be photographed separately, and the thousands of pictures need sorting and editing just to create a couple of minutes of video. Definitely not for the faint of heart!

But when your heart is filled with love anything is possible! Just check out this sweet LEGO video from Walter W. Thompson! He put it together to propose to his girlfriend, Nealey. Awww… I know! 😛

Each of the scenes in this LEGO video are actually part of Walter & Nealey’s story. Here is how Walter explains it:

“Basically, Nealey and I have been dating for just over 4 years now. She is a freelance food writer and blogger, and I am a photographer/filmmaker. More often than not, I shoot the pictures that accompany the recipes she is required to send in. We’ve had an ongoing joke for over a year now where I’ll sneak a LEGO minifig into a few frames just to see if she notices. She always does, and gets a good laugh out of it. I’ve been buying LEGO a la carte on eBay, and my collection has been growing steadily over time.

When it came time to propose, this was most personal ‘proposal idea’ I could ponder up. All outfits and food items are actually a part of our story. As a side note I should also mention that in a ‘chop-busting’ effort, Nealey had mentioned in the past that I had better put on a production when I asked for her hand, as it was taking me so long to ask and all…

She was pretty shocked as the video was playing, and it took her about 10 minutes afterwards to say ‘yes’ because she was asking 20 questions about how I made the LEGO video. It was pretty funny thinking back, although most of it was such a blur!”

Here is Nealey’s version of how it all happened:

“I dusted off my apron as Walt pointed in the direction of the television. A DVD sat on top of the player; he instructed me to put it in and press play. As he reached for my hands and pulled me close, I could feel the loud thumping of his heart. A LEGO man donning shaggy blond hair and denim overalls waddled across the screen. It just so happened that Walt was rocking overalls the day we first met. I looked at him and looked back at the screen. A cute brunette decked out in orange and blue strutted by. I was speechless. LEGO Walt paused a moment, contemplating life as a bachelor or life with me. You can probably guess by now which he chose…

The movie continues, documenting our ever-changing world together: I attended culinary school and discovered my passion for cooking. Walt fell in love with the camera lens and has been following me around ever since. A montage of various LEGO foods slid by (each with an inside joke attached, all the way down to the buttermilk), so when a ring zipped across the conveyor belt I almost fainted. The final act reveals a beautiful LEGO bride, and the wedding commences with all of our best LEGO friends in tow. I mean; what’s a wedding anyways without Indiana Jones and Godzilla!

The next minute Walt dropped to one knee as ‘will you marry me?’ flashed across the screen. He opened the box to reveal the same LEGO bride and groom; the groom holding the ring, of course. It was quite the proposal, as you might agree. It was just so Walt. And so us. If you know anything about stop-motion video you know it was truly a labor of love. Needless to say, I said YES!”

Congratulations Walter & Nealey! May you continue to have a wonderful life together! LEGO Star Wars battle-packs for your army!

One of the best ways to build up your LEGO Star Wars Galactic Empire is with the LEGO Star Wars battle-packs. In previously released battle-packs, there was only one fraction; clone-troopers, droids, rebels, etc. However this year LEGO is changing its tactic and now in each pack there are two good-guys and two bad-guys – giving each LEGO Star Wars battle-pack more playability.

LEGO has also stepped up its attention to detail with both the battle-packs as well as other LEGO Star Wars sets. Most minifigs now have both front and back torso-printing, and helmets and other gear are also more detailed. If you are a LEGO Star Wars fan, this is a great time to boost up your armies! These minifigs are truly beautiful and the price for each set is not bad! Below is a list of currently available LEGO Star Wars battle-packs:

#7913 LEGO STAR WARS Clone-Trooper Battle Pack – Build up your team of clone-troopers! Includes ARF trooper, 2 bomb-squad troopers, clone-trooper with green markings, weapons, and a BARC speeder. This set was released in 2011, but if you haven’t gotten it yet – and you are a Star Wars fan – I highly recommend you do! The minifigs in this set are really sweet! Price: $12.99 – BUY HERE

#7914 LEGO STAR WARS Mandalorian Battle Pack – Take the battle to the Clone Army with the Mandalorian assassin and 3 Mandalorian trooper minifigures, each with their own unique weapon. This was one of the most anticipated Star Wars sets of 2011; not one, not two, but four blue Mandalorians! Much liked by LEGO Star Wars fans. A small speeder-bike is also included. Price: $12.00 – BUY HERE

#9488 LEGO STAR WARS Elite Clone-Trooper & Commando Droid Battle Pack – Arm the Republic clone-troopers with the powerful artillery cannon and protect the galaxy from the Separatist’s droid-army! Included are the gorgeously detailed ARC (Advanced Recon Commando) trooper and ARF (Advanced Recon Fighter) trooper, and 2 much improved droids! Price: $12.99 – BUY HERE

Here is a close-up view of the minifigs.  Look at that leg-printing on the ARC trooper! LEGO really outdid themselves this time! 😛

# 8489 LEGO STAR WARS Endor Rebel Trooper & Imperial Trooper Battle Pack – Defend Endor against the Imperial forces in the Rebel hideout! Included are 2 rebels, 2 Imperial troopers, and a speeder-bike. Finally some rebels without having to buy the Battle of Endor set! I really like the rebels as they are a closest LEGO would probably ever get into producing modern military minifigures. So yeah, enjoy all the camo! Also, please note that in the 2012 sets Imperial troopers have a printed face instead of just an all black head. Price: $12.00 – BUY HERE

The following two sets are somewhat larger than the standard battle-packs (therefore the slightly higher price), but I would still consider them great army-builder sets, and basically the same as battle-packs with four minifigs and a bit more extras. 🙂

#9490 LEGO STAR WARS Droid Escape – Land the escape-pod and hide from the Imperial troopers! Help C-3PO and R2-D2 take the secret Death Star plans to Tatooine before the Imperial troopers can catch them!  Included are the 2 droids and 2 sandtroopers. Please note the new, more movie-accurate C-3PO, and the nicely detailed dirty troopers! The escape-pod is also pretty sweet. Price: $19.99 – BUY HERE

#9491 LEGO STAR WARS Geonosian Cannon –  Battle for control of Geonosis with the powerful Geonosian cannon! Included are Commander Gree (a senior clone commander who leads the clone trooper unit Green Company), Bariss Offee (a Mirialan Jedi and apprentice of Jedi Master Luminara Unduli), a Geonosian warrior and a Geonosian undead (mindless zombie-like warriors controlled by the evil Geonosian Queen). The printing on the Geonosians is beautiful! Price: $19.99 – BUY HERE

Please note that although all of these battle-packs are currently available on LEGO’s website, the ones released in 2012 won’t ship until the end of January. However they are available for pre-order. To reward you for your patience, when you pre-order any of the 2012 LEGO Star Wars sets you will also receive an awesome 24 x 32 inch LEGO Star Wars poster. 😉
