LEGO Technic Formula 1 1:8 Racecars Comparison

In 2022, LEGO released the 1:8-scale #42141 LEGO Technic McLaren Formula 1 Race Car, a 1,432-piece model with a $200 price tag that is over two feet long! Then two years later (2024), LEGO added the #42171 LEGO Technic Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E Performance with 1,642 pieces and a $220 price tag. Both models come with authentic details like a V6 cylinder engine with moving pistons, steering, suspension, and differential. I especially like the second car with its sharp color-scheme!

This year, LEGO released two more 1:8-scale Formula 1 racecars, the #42206 LEGO Technic Oracle Red Bull Racing RB20 F1 Car with 1,639 pieces, and the #42207 LEGO Technic Ferrari SF-24 F1 Car with 1,361 pieces. Both sets are $230 each.

LEGO Technic is perfect for learning some basic engineering skills like how engines work and how to build suspension, gears, and other moving parts. It’s also interesting to see how LEGO techniques evolved and improved through the years with the availability of new elements.

In the video below, LEGO fan Alex Nunes discusses and compares all four models, along with some earlier non-licensed LEGO Technic racecars. It’s really cool to see them side by side!

LEGO offers a wide range of F1 cars in every size and price range. The smaller cars, like those from the LEGO Speed Champions line, are fun for play and to collect. And the large 1:8 models offer an absorbing and educational building experience and make impressive display pieces. If you want to check them out, they are available at the LEGO Technic section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? Do you have any of the LEGO Technic F1 racecars? How do you like the features and functions? Feel free to share your thoughts and own reviews in the comment section below!
