WEBSITE: Custom-Crazy
LOCATION: Malaysia
STORE: Custom-Crazy eShop
GALLERY: flickr
PRICE: reasonable
SHIPPING: incremental, very reasoneable
SHIPPING TIME TO USA: 8-10 days

Custom-Crazy opened its doors just this January, and it already has some really promising LEGO-compatible accessories! I received my first order yesterday! Yay! Here is a little review on what I have gotten:

First, I was a little concerned because my order arrived in just a plain, white, unpadded envelope – but nothing was missing. The package was registered and insured – a good thing in case something goes wrong. Still, I hope Custom-Crazy will consider upgrading to padded envelopes, for the safety of the items. Especially coming all the way from Malaysia! I got some nice stamps though! 😉

So far Custom-Crazy released items in two main themes; ninja and castle/fantasy. They have the unique approach of creating modular accessories and weapons – opening the doors for lots of possibilities!

I particularly like the handles and the various mace heads, as they can be combined and used in many ways!

I have also received a cleaver. Here is a comparison picture between Custom-Crazy’s version (black) and BrickForge’s version (silver). As you can see Custom-Crazy’s version has a really nice curve and balance. (Click on the picture for larger view.)

QUALITY: The quality of the pieces is excellent. They are professionally designed and molded. The plastic appears to be the same ABS plastic used by LEGO.

MOLD DETAIL: The parts I have received have very nice details! Elegant, simple, yet detailed enough to make them unique.

COLORS: Custom-Crazy offers its items in the following  colors: black, coated-silver (it is like LEGO’s pearl-silver), flat-silver, pearl-dark-gray, and speckle-black-silver. The colors match LEGO’s perfectly. (I particularly like the speckled parts!)

SUMMARY: Custom-Crazy is new to the LEGO accessories market, however I see great potential. The modular weapons and accessories are especially nice! Right now several of the accessories are very similar to what LEGO or other customizers offers, but the designs are nice and it is worth to give them a try. And I hope in the future they will differentiate themselves with more unique offerings.

Shipping is very reasonable, and it hardly takes any longer than a domestic First Class shipment. So, if you want to equip your ninja, knights, or fantasy warriors with unique weapons and accessories, head over to Custom-Crazy’s store for a great selection! I’m sure your minifigs will be happy! 😀

Samurai helmet by Sidan Toys

I have ordered some custom LEGO samurai helmets made by Sidan Toys via A Minifig.Cat’s Store. I’m extremely happy with the look and quality of each piece! They fit LEGO minifigs just perfect! I was trying to find a minifig head that would work well with these helmets, and give the minifig a real samurai look.

First I have tried some regular minifig heads. I choose heads that I thought would work well for a samurai. (You can click on any of the pictures to see a larger version.):

I thought they look okay, but I was not entirely happy with the eye area. It just seems that the eyes are too small for the cut-out of the helmet.

Then I tried some solid color heads:

Using solid color heads gives an interesting look; highlighting the shape of the helmet, while leaving the samurai’s face in mysterious darkness. I think this would be a great choice for some kind of a fantasy samurai minifig. This combo works well for same color head/helmet combination (for example black helmet/black head), as well as a different shade combination (for example gray helmet/black head).

Then I tried the old Exco Force heads:

I was amazed how well the eyes and the mouth align with the shape of the helmet! They are a perfect fit! And not just one of the Exo Force heads work, but all of them!

I personally prefer the open-mouth versions as the mouth fully aligns with the cut-out of the helmet, but the closed mouth versions are pretty nice too. The eyes are so expressive, and fill the space of the helmet’s cut-out, giving the head/helmet combo a balanced look. And I really like the one with the red headband! 🙂

In case you are not familiar with Exo Force: it was a theme released by the LEGO Group between 2006 and 2008. The sets are very interesting and the minifigs are very nice!  You can still find Exo Force sets and minifigs on Bricklink.

Here I will just show you the heads. (Click on any of the pictures to take you to the exact Bricklink page). The Exo Force heads are great! They are all dual sided (face on both front and back), so you get twice your money’s worth and twice the possibilities! 😉

I’m very happy with this head/helmet combo for my samurai, so just thought to share! (You might also want to check out my review of the custom LEGO Sidan Toys Samurai Vest and Quiver.) Enjoy! 😀
