LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay Coming!

Arghhh me hearties! Explore an epic shipwreck with the new #21322 LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay! Today, the LEGO Group has announced the latest LEGO Ideas set, bringing back memories of the beloved LEGO Pirates theme. Press-release below.

Rekindle nostalgic memories of childhood LEGO construction projects with the #21322 LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay shipwreck island model for display and play. Enjoy some calm, quality time alone building – or share the fun with others. Become a pirate with this brand-new LEGO Ideas set, inspired by the 1989 Black Seas Barracuda pirate ship model. Adventurers can now explore the island and the wreckage of Captain Redbeard’s famous ship, which was lost at sea over 30 years ago.

As you probably know already, LEGO Ideas offers fans the opportunity to submit their own brick creations with the chance to have their concept brought to life with the help of LEGO master designers and a share of the net sales. The new #21322 LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay set has been created based on a submission to the LEGO Ideas platform by fan designer Pablo Sánchez Jiménez, who has a passion for all things pirate and was inspired after building LEGO brick models with his dad when he was young. The concept behind the #21322 LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay set reached the 10,000-supporter milestone in just 25 days – making it one of the quickest sets to hit the target.

With 2,545 pieces in total, the model contains everything a pirate or LEGO fan needs to create the ultimate shipwreck – including a captain’s quarters, food store, kitchen, bedrooms, supply dock, farm, toilet, jail cell, and tavern. LEGO builders can even uncover buried treasure on the island by removing parts of the ship to explore new areas and create new stories.

This set also contains eight minifigures all based on pirate characters from the classic pirate lines, including the iconic Captain Redbeard, Lady Anchor, Robin Loot, and the twins, Port and Starboard, as well as three other pirates, and two skeleton figures, and various animals to discover on the island.

When builders tire of being stranded at sea, the island can also be reassembled to create Captain Redbeard’s legendary ship, the Black Seas Barracuda. Rebuild the ship to launch a rescue mission to take the ship’s crew back to safety and find the buried treasure.

The #21322 LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay set measures over 23” (59cm) high, 25” (64cm) wide and 12” (32cm) deep and is sure to catch the eye whether proudly displayed or placed amongst other LEGO Pirate sets.

Here are a few more pictures of the interior of the ship as well as the structures on the island. LEGO designers did a great job making the island looking pretty good even when the shipwreck is removed.

The #21322 LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay is recommended for age 16+, and will be available directly from official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop from the 1st of April. Prices are as follows: US $199.99– CA $259.99– DE €199.99– UK £179.99– FR €199.99– DK 1599.0DKK – $299.99 AUD (Euro pricing varies by country). For more details, visit the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.

To get ready for Easter, LEGO is offering two new freebies starting today. In addition, LEGO also opened a special, Easter Basket section of the Online LEGO Shop, with some Easter gift ideas. We will look at all these new offerings below.

From now until April 13th, you can get a #30550 LEGO Easter Bunny with purchases of $30 or more. The set features a cute yellow and white brick-built Easter bunny with a lime-green and yellow Easter egg. This is a small polybag set with 67 pieces, and it could make a nice little surprise during an Easter egg hunt. The offer is valid at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

The second Easter-related freebie is a much larger set in a standard cardboard box and with the red Limited Edition logo. The #40371 LEGO Customizable Easter Egg comes with 239 pieces, and is free with purchases of $50 or more at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

The brick-built light-orange, white, and lime-green egg has three stackable sections that come apart to reveal quite a few surprises. The bottom section is filled with 1×1 tiles and plates in a rainbow of colors and several shapes to decorate the outside of the egg. And the middle and top section hides an adorable brick-built chick.

I like the interactivity of this set and how it encourages creativity and customization. Just like the Easter Bunny, it could be incorporated into Easter Egg hunt activities, including hiding, finding, and building the egg, decorating the outside of the egg in various ways with the included pieces, adding more decorative pieces from your own collection, hiding other items inside the egg, and using the set as a template to build more Easter eggs in various colors. This offer is also valid until April 13th at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

Please note that if you make a purchase of $50 or more, you will get both the #30550 LEGO Easter Bunny, and the #40371 LEGO Customizable Easter Egg. Both of these offers are valid at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

How to meet the $30 or $50 limit? You might already have your own wish-list ready to go, but if you don’t LEGO is making some suggestions in the Easter Gift Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop. They specifically recommend LEGO DOTS, the LEGO Disney Storybook Adventures sets, the new LEGO Trolls World Tour sets, and other small to medium size sets that offer good playability without breaking the bank. And they also advertise the new #10271 LEGO Creator Expert Fiat 500, which doesn’t have much connection to Easter besides being cute and light-yellow. We talked about this set before (see links at the end of this post), and you can find it at the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? How do you like the LEGO Easter freebies? Are you planning to get any new sets to qualify for them? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below!
