A couple of days ago, LEGO announced a new collection for adult LEGO fans called LEGO Art. The series features mosaics of Marvel and Star Wars characters and famous celebrities. Below is the press-release with all the information.

The LEGO Group is launching a new canvas for creative expression alongside a series of much-loved partners. Designed for adults who pride themselves on their love of pop culture, four new LEGO Art sets give creative adults a different way to transform their passion into art.

Those who love Warhol or Marilyn Monroe, The Beatles or iconic characters from the Marvel Universe and Star Wars galaxy can pay homage to their idols by creating their very own LEGO artwork portrait to proudly display in their homes, offices or wherever they enjoy their music, film, or art.

The LEGO Art sets offer adults a new creative experience to help them relax and recharge as they transform a blank canvas (or in this case, small interlinking base plates) using LEGO tiles. Each set can be reimagined in a number of different ways to express the personality of each different builder, and to make it easy and simple for pop culture lovers to refresh the LEGO Art piece on display in their house. All four new sets come with a signature tile unique to the set that is worthy of any true work of art, and a new hanging element to make them easy to hang up and switch around.

With new research from the LEGO Group finding that 73% of adults often research new ways to help them relax, each LEGO Art set comes with a bespoke soundtrack that makes the perfect building companion. Featuring fascinating anecdotes from the creators of Iron Man and Star Wars, or those closest to the stories of Andy Warhol and the Beatles, the soundtracks dive deep into the inspiration behind each design to help adults fully immerse themselves in the building experience and unwind while they explore their love of music, art or film in a new way.

The LEGO Marvel Studios Iron Man set will be available exclusively from LEGO retail stores and LEGO.com in most countries while the other three sets will be available from retailers from 1st August 2020, or from 1st September in the US. All products in the collection measure over 15.5” (40cm) square when completed. Recommended for ages 18+. Prices are as follows: US $119.99 – CA $149.99 – DE €119.99 – UK £149.99 – FR €119.99 – DK 1099DKK (Euro pricing varies by country). Check the Online LEGO Shop.

The soundtrack means the Force will be with fans as they create their very own piece of wall art while listing to music from the films and fun stories from Star Wars™ creators. Three separate sets can be combined to make an ultimate Darth Vade portrait piece. Accompanying soundtrack includes interviews with Doug Chiang, VP & Executive Creative Director, Lucasfilm and stories from Glyn Dillon, creator of the design for Kylo Ren, as seen in the Star Wars film saga. Comes with 3,395 pieces.

Louise Elizabeth Bontoft, Senior Design Director at the LEGO Group, commented: “We know adults are always trying to destress after a day at work, and we thought, what better way to help them switch off than by encouraging them to explore their favorite passion in a new creative way? With these wider ranging designs, we believe that we can inspire film fans, music lovers and art and design aficionados to immerse themselves in a world of art and creativity linked to their idols. Through this new experience, we believe adults can unwind, engage in a mindful building activity and ultimately create a beautiful piece of wall art that perfectly reflects their personality.”

These new wall art sets are the second 2D tile creative concept to be announced by the LEGO Group this year, following the launch of LEGO DOTS, a new theme that offers children a new way to express themselves inspired by arts and crafts. You can find them at the LEGO DOTS section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? How do you like the LEGO Art sets? Which one is your favorite? Are you planning to get any of them? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below!

July 2020 – New LEGO Sets & Promotions

LEGO is running several new promotions during the month of July, including freebies, Double VIP Points, and some new sets. So, let’s take a look at everything that’s happening this month!

FREE LEGO CREATIVE FUN SET: Between July 1st and July 26th, you will get the #40411 LEGO Creative 12-in-1 Set free with purchases of $85 or more. This is a really neat set, similar to what we have previously gotten for Christmas, with 240 pieces to build 12 different alternate models related to summer. This offer is valid on all purchases at official LEGO stores (if they reopened in your area) and the Online LEGO Shop.

FREE BACK TO SCHOOL PACK: Towards the end of the month, between July 27 and July 29, you will get the #5005969 LEGO Back to School Pack free with purchases of $50 or more. This offer is also valid on all purchases at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

FREE CHRISTMAS IN JULY SET: Then, for some reason, LEGO is giving away the #40338 LEGO Seasonal Christmas Tree with purchases of $100 or more between July 24 and July 26. I guess they may have had too many of these left over from last year? It’s a great set though and it includes some exclusive pieces. This offer is also valid on all purchases at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO VIP MONTHLY SWEEPSTAKES: The Monthly Sweepstakes this month is for the very rare and limited-released 2012 San Diego Comic Con Exclusive Bizarro minifigure. Go to your LEGO VIP account and follow the instructions to enter the sweepstakes with your VIP points.

LEGO DOUBLE VIP POINTS: Two sets that come with Double VIP Points this month are the #11717 LEGO Classic Bricks Box and the #10698 LEGO LEGO Classic Large Creative Brick Box. If you need loose elements, this is a good time to get them. Both sets are available at the LEGO Classic section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO CROCODILE LOCOMOTIVE AVAILABLE: The #10277 LEGO Creator Crocodile Locomotive is now available! We talked about this interesting historical train previously (see: LEGO Crocodile Locomotive Coming!) It’s not the prettiest locomotive out there, but it looks great for display and even customization. It’s available at the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO BRICK SKETCHES COMING SOON: LEGO fan Chris McVeigh has been well known for his LEGO Christmas ornaments and his Brick Sketches. So, when LEGO hired him last year as a designer, he had a chance to pitch his idea of brick sketches to the company as a potential product line. And they were accepted! There is an interesting interview with Chris at Brickset if you would like to hear more about how the collection came about. The four sets currently in the collection as official LEGO sets are as follows: #40386 LEGO Brick Sketches Batman, #40391 LEGO Brick Sketches First Order Storm Trooper, #40428 LEGO Brick Sketches The Joker, and #40431 LEGO Brick Sketches BB-8. They will be available on July 15th for $19.99 each at the LEGO Batman and LEGO Star Wars sections of the Online LEGO Shop.

The many new summer sets are already available the rest of the world, but we will continue to have to wait for them in North America. This gives us the time to catch up on some of the earlier sets of the year. Keep in mind that the LEGO factory in Mexico is still closed, so stock at the Online LEGO Shop has been quite sketchy. LEGO is doing its best to reroute some of the stock from other regions, but you will see a lot of LEGO sets on backorder or temporarily out of stock. So, if you see something that you like, and its available, I would suggest purchasing it right away before it goes out of stock again at the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? Are there any new sets that you would really like to get? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below!
