I know many LEGO fans are curious about the new LEGO Marvel Super Heroes sets that were just released. The LEGO Super Heroes line is sometimes criticized for being weak in set design, and focusing too much on unique minifigures. The 2018 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes selection appears much more balanced in this regard, with some really well-designed and interesting sets and surprising features. So let’s take a closer look. 🙂
Two of the 2018 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes sets have been released a bit earlier, and you might already have them, but I thought to include them here for the sake of completeness. The #76099 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Rhino Face-Off by the Mine set (see above) includes Black Panther and Okoye, against masked super villain Killmonger. The most interesting feature of the set is the poseable rhino, built similarly as the Luggabeast in the #75148 LEGO Star Wars Encounter on Jakku. The #76100 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Royal Talon Fighter Attack (see below) features Black Panther, Nakia, super villain Killmonger, and Ulysses Klaue, as well as the sleek Royal Talon Fighter. Below, I have included reviews of both sets by JANGBRiCKS, so you can check out the play-features and other details.
As far as the most recently released sets, the full list is as follows: the #76101 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Outrider Dropship Attack, the #76102 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Thor’s Weapon Quest (see below), the #76103 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Thresher Attack, the #76104 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes The Hulkbuster Smash-Up, the #76105 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes The Hulkbuster: Ultron Edition, the #76107 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Thanos: Ultimate Battle, and the #76108 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Sanctum Sanctorum.
It is interesting to note that LEGO released two versions of The Hulkbuster at the same time; a regular size one, and the very large Ultron Edition (see below). Both of them appear to be very solid and well-designed sets, and I hope that either myself or one of our contributors can review them in more detail sometime soon. In the meantime, I’m enclosing JANGBRiCKS reviews in the player below.
The #76107 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Thanos: Ultimate Battle is another great looking set with an M-ship, similar to the Milano, but with an orange, gray, and sand-blue color-scheme. Whether this is a modified version of the Milano itself, or another ship is not clear at this point. But we should know soon enough when the Avengers: Infinity War movie gets released at the beginning of May. I quite like the color and swooping wings!
While there are several really good sets in the 2018 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes collection, the one that LEGO fans have been talking about the most is the #76108 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Sanctum Sanctorum. Its similarity to the #10243 LEGO Creator Parisian Restaurant is quite striking. As you will see in the video-review, it can be displayed in a number of different ways, and while originally it has a dollhouse style opening, I’m sure there will be LEGO fans who will convert it to having stackable floors like the LEGO Modular Buildings. I think the set looks very nice and polished both inside and outside, and from every angle. The colors are really well chosen too. Even if you don’t care for Marvel Super Heroes, you can add this building to your LEGO city with very little modification. And if you are a Marvel fan, the set has some nice play-features and minifigs too.
The 2018 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes sets also have some cool hidden features that may not be so obvious. The #76107 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Thanos: Ultimate Battle can be combined with the #76102 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Thor’s Weapon Quest to create a very impressive looking larger ship. Also, the Thanos big figure in the #76107 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Thanos: Ultimate Battle comes with a gold-colored Infinity Gauntlet, which has attachment points for six infinity stones that are spread out between the six new regular sets.
In the playlist below, I have included reviews of the new sets, so you can check them out in detail. JANGBRiCKS also did a separate review of the combination M-Ship, and the completed Infinity Gauntlet, so I have added those videos as well. There is a lot to see and take in! Enjoy!
Also, remember that to celebrate the release of a whole new wave of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes sets, LEGO is offering a number of promotional items. The first offer is for a free limited edition Marvel art print sketched by Marvel illustrator Ron Lim when you purchase the #76105 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes The Hulkbuster: Ultron Edition (this offer is for LEGO VIP members only). The second offer is a free Marvel art print with a LEGO Marvel Super Heroes purchase of $25 more. The third offer is a free mini version of The Guardians’ ship with a LEGO Marvel Super Heroes purchase of $75 more. Please note that if you get the #76105 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes The Hulkbuster: Ultron Edition you will qualify for all three freebies!
