If you are around kids, you have probably run across the current fidget spinner craze. Fidget spinners are small gadgets that you can spin between your fingers. They are advertised as a type of stress-relieving toy, although experts are divided on that claim. One benefit fidgets spinners definitely have is that it’s easy to make them, and thus coming up with different designs stimulate creativity. 🙂

Fidget spinners can be made of pretty much any solid material, as long as they have a spinning core. This of course means that they can also be made out of LEGO. YouTube is full of kids showing off their fidget spinners, including the ones they made out of LEGO pieces. Recently LEGO themselves also got on the fidget spinner mania, and they released a number of fidget spinner designs on their website, social-media pages, and YouTube channel. Below I have included LEGO’s own resources for making fidget spinners with full building instructions.

Making LEGO fidget spinners is very easy, but if you are just starting out, having step-by-step instructions can get you on the right track faster. A couple of LEGO fidget spinner designs can be downloaded from the LEGO Classic website. They use parts from the recently released #10706 LEGO Classic Blue Creativity Box and the #10707 LEGO Classic Red Creativity Box. Both of these are small, $5 sets that are easy to get, or you can just substitute parts and colors from your current LEGO selection. You can find the sets under the LEGO Classic section of the Online LEGO Shop, and you can download the instructions from the LEGO Classic website here: LEGO CLASSIC FIDGET SPINNERS

There are also instructions for three LEGO fidget spinner designs on the LEGO Technic website, using parts from the #42060 LEGO Technic Roadwork Truck. These spinners are more technical and spin faster, but are not as colorful as the LEGO Classic fidget spinners. You can find the set under the LEGO Technic section of the Online LEGO Shop, and you can download the instructions from the LEGO Technic website: LEGO TECHNIC FIDGET SPINNERS

In the video-player below, you can see in action both LEGO Classic fidget spinners, and the three LEGO Technic fidget spinners. The second video in the player includes yet another fidget spinner from LEGO’s YouTube channel. There is no demonstration for this spinner, but the video includes step-by-step building instructions.

I have also included a few more videos from LEGO fans with some really cool fidget spinner designs. Tyler from The Brick Show demonstrates how to build six different LEGO fidget spinners. And Astonishing Studios shares step-by-step instructions for two versions of their LEGO fidget spinner; one using real ball-bearings, and the other only LEGO pieces. You can watch all the above-mentioned videos in the player below.

There are many other LEGO fidget spinners you can find online, but these should help you in starting out. If you want more, YouTube is the best place to find other designs.

What do you think? Do you have any fidget spinners? Did you make any out of LEGO pieces, or are you planning to? Are there any other LEGO fidget spinner designs you really like? Or you think that the whole fidget spinner craze should just go away as soon as possible? Feel free to share your thoughts and own designs in the comment section below! 😉

Review LEGO City Jungle, Coast Guard & more!

A brand new wave of LEGO City sets were released this month, including updated LEGO City Coast Guard sets (perfect for the summer!), the new LEGO City Jungle sub-theme, and three generic LEGO City sets that would fit any LEGO City setting. So let’s take a closer look! 🙂

2017 LEGO CITY COAST GUARD SETS: The LEGO City Coast Guard theme has been a perennial favorite, especially during the summer months. The sets feature minifigs stranded in various watery dangers (shark attacks, engine troubles, drowning, etc.), and the coast guard coming to their aid. The entire LEGO City Coast Guard line gets replaced every four years or so, but the white/orange/blue color-scheme has been the same since 2008. This allows LEGO to refresh the vehicles and minifigs with new designs, parts, and techniques, while LEGO fans to mix and match old and new sets.

This year, the LEGO City Coast Guard theme includes the #60163 LEGO City Coast Guard Starter Set, the #60164 LEGO City Sea Rescue Plane, the #60165 LEGO City 4×4 Response Unit, the #60166 LEGO City Heavy-Duty Rescue Helicopter, and the #60167 LEGO City Coast Guard Headquarters. There is also the #60168 LEGO City Sailboat Rescue set that is only available at limited markets. In the video-player below, JANGBRiCKS will show you each of the sets in more detail. You can watch the videos one after another, or use the drop-down list in the upper-left corner of the player to select the review you would like to watch.

Because the LEGO City Coast Guard theme has a good mix of small to medium sets, they can easily fit any budget. Each of the sets can provide plenty of playtime for kids, or an excellent addition to the LEGO City diorama of older kids and adult LEGO fans. The sets are also a good source for sharks! Find them all at the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.

2017 LEGO CITY JUNGLE SETS: Besides the perennial LEGO City sets like LEGO City Police, LEGO City Fire, and LEGO City Coast Guard, LEGO also releases special sub-themes for LEGO City that are a bit more adventurous. They are basically the dangerous jobs of LEGO City, including a mining operation (2012), arctic exploration (2014), deep sea exploration (2015), volcano exploration (2016), and this year minifigs are going into the jungle! For this theme, LEGO partnered with National Geographic TV Kids, so expect some great shows out of it too.

The LEGO City Jungle sets include the #60157 LEGO City Jungle Starter Set, the #60158 LEGO City Jungle Cargo Helicopter, the #60159 LEGO City Jungle Halftrack Mission, the #60160 LEGO City Jungle Mobile Lab, and the #60161 LEGO City Jungle Exploration Site. There is another large set, the #60162 LEGO City Jungle Air Drop Helicopter, and the very small #60156 LEGO City Jungle Buggy, which are currently only available at limited markets. In the video-player below, JANGBRiCKS will show you each of the sets in more detail.

There is so much to like about the LEGO City Jungle theme! The vehicles have a pleasing light-orange color-scheme that could be reused in other settings as well. Each of the sets comes with dangerous and magnificent wild critters, including the new big cats, the Venus flytraps, and giant spiders. There is also a new kayak and some other useful accessories, and of course nicely detailed minifigs. The ruins found in the jungle are well designed, however it would be nice if there was a bit more greenery. You can find all the sets under the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.

2017 LEGO CITY SUMMER OTHER SETS: There are a few other new that are more generic, and are good fillers for expanding your LEGO City. This includes the #60153 LEGO City Fun at the Beach People Pack, the #60154 LEGO City Bus Station, and the #60169 LEGO City Cargo Terminal. In the video-player below, you can see each of the sets in more detail.

The #60154 LEGO City Bus Station is a great combination of useful modules and minifigures, although as you can see in the video-review, the bus could benefit from some minor improvements. The #60169 LEGO City Cargo Terminal also includes smaller modules, mostly in the form of vehicles. It could go well as an extension to a train depot or harbor. And the #60153 LEGO City Fun at the Beach People Pack is an obvious great set for additional minifigures. It’s nice to see so many new minifig prints! You can find all the new sets under the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.

What do you think? How do you like the new LEGO City sets? Are you getting anything from the coast guard or jungle exploration collection? Did you build some of them already? Feel free to share your thoughts and own review in the comment section below! 😉
