LEGO Minifigures Series 7 – review

by admin on March 27, 2012

in LEGO Minifigures

Many of us haven’t even completed our collection of Series 6 of the Collectible LEGO Minifigures, and Series 7 is already popping up in some countries! It may be a while before Series 7 makes it to your neighborhood retail store (the official release date supposed to be April 1st), so in the meantime you can check out an excellent review with lots of pictures from EuroBricks member WhiteFang from Singapore: LEGO Minifigures Series 7 Review.

The color of the Series 7 minifigures package is dark red, so you should be able to spot them easily once they arrive in stores near you:

Here is a great view of all 16 of the Series 7 Collectible Minifigures:

  1. Swimming Champion the medal is a very nice accessory!
  2. Aztec Warriortotally awesome!
  3. Bunny-Suit Guy – joins the previous costumed guys!
  4. Bride – yes, finally a flower-bunch minifigs can hold!
  5. Ocean King god of the seas!
  6. Bag-Piper – with man-skirt. And the bag-pipe is excellent!
  7. Daredevil – red-white-blue suit. Kinda cool.
  8. Galaxy Patrol – the armor is such a steal from Amazing Armory!
  9. Tennis Playersomeone to pair-up with the previous tennis player!
  10. Jungle Boy – that torso is going to be so useful!
  11. Hippie – love the hair and the tie-dye shirt!
  12. Computer Programmer – just your regular friendly nerd.
  13. Female Viking – nice helmet/hair combo!
  14. Evil Knight – with devilish red eyes and awesome armor details!
  15. Punk Rockershe can join the male punk-rocker from Series 4!
  16. Little Red Riding Hood – so sweet! Nice basket too!

The review goes into great detail on each of the Collectible Minifigures in Series 7. Here are some photos from the review, and if you would like to see more head over to EuroBricks – it is worth it! 😀

Another photo from the review that I thought was very helpful is a breakdown of a full box’s content. As you can see; a box of 60 minifigures contains; 3 full sets of 16 minifigures, and 2 extra Galaxy Patrols, Evil Knights, and Jungle Boys, and one extra Hippie, Computer  Programmer, Bag-Piper, Daredevil, Viking Woman, and Tennis Player. The rarest (and probably hardest to find) are going to be the Aztec Warrior, the Ocean King, Red Riding Hood, the Bunny Suit Guy, the Punk Rocker, the Bride, and the Swimmer. With the Aztec Warrior likely being the most wanted.

I have heard from a lot of LEGO fans mentioning that this has been their favorite Collectible Minifigure series to date, as there is not a single unwanted or blah minifigure in the series. Also, it is full of new accessories! My most favorite minifigure from this series is the Bag-Piper, followed closely by the Galaxy Patrol, the Aztec Warrior and the Hippie. What about you? Which one is your favorite minifigure in the Collectible Minifigures Series 7? Share your thoughts in the comment section below! 🙂

I think the first one I’m gonna get is probably the tennis player, I could use some blond spikeys to go along with all my brown. 🙂

Also, I read somewhere that the series was supposed to come out in May. At least, that’s when all the people pre-selling them on eBay are saying it’s supposed to come out.

Quad, yeah, that hair-stype is great! Hm… so far I have read April everywhere. Of course by the time it makes it to my TRU, it would very well be May. 🙁

gid617 March 27, 2012 at 1:34 PM

My favorite is the Aztec he is soo cool!!!!!!!!!!!!
The bagpiper is also nice but his face (at least as far as I can tell) isn’t the coolest.
I’d love to get the swimer, tenis player, computer progaramer and tarzan as well 😉 😀

gid617 March 27, 2012 at 2:02 PM

and that is an awesome color red!! (I hear that series eight is supposed to be black)

Reply

admin March 27, 2012 at 2:19 PM

Yep, that’s what I heard too! 😀

Reply

Gabriel March 27, 2012 at 1:54 PM

My top picks have got to be the Bagpiper, Female Viking and Punk Rocker, but like you said, they all look good.

Daredevil probably looks the least interesting, but I will say this: according to the Star Wars Minifigure encyclopedia there is only one minifigure with a white cape: Mon Mothma. Now we have Princess Leia who comes with the 9495 Y-wing, and Daredevil makes number three. That makes him a bit more desirable. Y’know, if you’re into capes.

Reply

gid617 March 27, 2012 at 2:03 PM

I didn’t eve notice the white cape!!! I tdo liek teh female viking though (she has a turna round head) and the pricess in prince of persia also had a white cape (at least so says my brother. . . )

Reply

gid617 March 27, 2012 at 2:06 PM

sorry about the spelling

Reply

admin March 27, 2012 at 2:19 PM

Gabriel, yeah, the Daredevil was my least favorite from the bunch also, but he does have a unique hair-piece, and as you said; white capes are pretty rare. I don’t use cloth-capes though. I don’t like to mix cloth with LEGO, so I just sell them on BrickLink. 😉

Reply

gid617 March 27, 2012 at 2:05 PM

Is that what comes in every single box??
I kind of thought they would all be differet.

Reply

Gabriel March 27, 2012 at 2:11 PM

I thought so too. But it’s nice to know you’d get at least one full set. How much is a box? You can only buy 16 bags at a time from shop.LEGO.com.

Reply

admin March 27, 2012 at 2:25 PM

Gabriel, you can buy full boxes eBay, BrickLink and Amazon. The prices are usually very reasonable, especially if you sell duplicates and minifigs you don’t want. 😉

Reply

admin March 27, 2012 at 2:21 PM

Yes, full boxes usually have the same distribution. There might be a very slight difference, but in general the content of full boxes are pretty consistent.

Another neat set. I’ll be looking for the Aztec, Bag piper, female Viking and more of the history themes ones. Still need a few more from series six. Good news the Lego store will open soon so they should be easy tofind.

Reply

Greg Wurz March 27, 2012 at 3:59 PM

I wanna get the Hippie and the computer programmer the most. Although, I am sure I will eventually get them all. Although I still haven’t got all of series 6! They kinda came and went in my area. Our Toys R Us has a million series 5, but no 6.

Reply

admin March 27, 2012 at 8:37 PM

Greg, same here. My local TRU got one measly box of Series 6, but they have tons of Series 5. I ended up buying Series 6 on BrickLink. 🙁

Reply

Chris March 27, 2012 at 10:01 PM

I have found Series six at Wal-Greens. They were tossed in with the Easter stuff. They were in a box with Easter basket toys not sure if they were suppose to be there or with the other toys.

Reply

admin March 27, 2012 at 10:53 PM

Chris, thanks for sharing that! I’m going to check my local Wal-Greens! 😀

Sarah March 27, 2012 at 11:39 PM

This series is awesome! I think the best to date, especially in the female department. I love the Bride and Valkyrie and will be getting a lot of those to use their dresses for various MOCs.

Also excited about Little Red Riding Hood as I’m planning to do a fairy tail series of MOCs. With her and the werewolf from Monster Fighters, I’m all set for her story. Just need to build the forest and grandma’s house.

The white cape also came out in the Prince of Persia series with the lady there. I can’t think of anywhere else, so I guess it is on the rarer side.

I’m also looking forward to getting the Evil Knight and Aztec Warrior (army building). Then the Ocean King will finally allow me to cheaply make my undersea city. I love the new tail and it was way too expensive to buy a dozen White Cap Bays for them. Though I may pick up a few of the other colors to get a mix, but off bricklink.

I love the new accessories! I just bought a whole bunch of series 6 extras just for the accessories. I’ll probably do that for series 7 as well.

As for the release date, Will asked Kevin Hinkle and he was under the impression that it came out in May or June. He did confirm that those are all the series 7 minifigures, but but neither he nor his boss are aware of them coming out on April 1st. I also talked to several LEGO store employees and they don’t know about an April 1st release date. They usually know about 2 weeks ahead of time of a release. Now maybe TRU will release them early, against contract, but that’s their prerogative. We’ll just have to see if this is an April Fool’s joke.

Reply

admin March 28, 2012 at 9:12 AM

Hey, Sarah, good to know! I have been hearing April 1st since December, and in fact it has been available in Singapore, the UK, and some other places already. So maybe the release dates are different at different places. 😕

Oh, and looking forward to your LRRH MOC! 😀

Reply

Sarah March 28, 2012 at 9:44 PM

Interesting that it’s being released at different times. Guess we’ll have to wait and see how it goes.

I’ll definitely post pics once I build it. 🙂

Reply

nicolas-n. March 29, 2012 at 8:50 AM

When is the release date exactly?

Reply

admin March 29, 2012 at 10:15 AM

Well, it seems like the release date is not the same at every country and every store. UK retail stores have them already, so is Singapore. I have heard April 1st for the USA, but Sarah said she heard later. Usually the official release date only applies to LEGO stores anyway. ToysRUs and other locations often carry them much earlier then official LEGO stores. 😉

Reply

nicolas-n. March 30, 2012 at 2:35 PM

really because i heard that it was coming out in may, but where? oh well i just hope it comes out here soon

Reply

admin March 30, 2012 at 5:44 PM

Nicolas, the official release date usually refers to when LEGO stores and LEGO’s online store start carrying an item. Retail stores like TRU, and online stores, often carry the same sets much earlier than the official release date. Hope this helps a little. 😉

Reply

gid617 March 30, 2012 at 3:35 PM

There are a lot of turn around faces in this series (4).
I though that is cool becaues there have only ben two so far (at least I think so) and I have them both!!! (The Boxer and the Sleepyhead.)

Anyone spotted these in the States yet? I did a check today with no luck but then again the one place in town that carries them sells out rather quickly. Supposedly, there is someone who showed up and bought 200 of series 6 and cleaned out the store.

Reply

admin April 1, 2012 at 9:00 PM

Nitch, as far as I know, no sign of them in the USA as of yet. 🙁

Reply

Sarah April 1, 2012 at 10:07 PM

We talked to our local LEGO store and while they don’t get a truck until Mondays & Thursdays, if they do get some in tomorrow, they’ll be able to sell them right away. The release date is supposed to be the first of April, but the first is Sunday and there’s no shipping.

On a related note, the Marvel Superheroes will be able to be sold on the 2nd in LEGO stores if they get them in. A street date of the 8th is floating around, but our local LEGO stores says they have clearance to sell them starting the 2nd, but it just depends on whether they get any in on the truck.

Needless to say, we’ll be going to the LEGO store tomorrow night to see if/what came in. 😀

Reply

admin April 2, 2012 at 10:38 AM

Sarah, thanks for sharing that! I got the banners already from LEGO about the Marvel sets, with the message they will be active on the 8th. Meaning; the Marvel sets will be on LEGO’s website on the 8th. You guys are so lucky to have a LEGO store locally! 😀

Reply

gid617 April 2, 2012 at 2:38 PM

I have a lego store locally as well, but here in chile almost everything is double (all the legos, I mean) Sometimes I wonder how lego can possibly sell a spinner for $20!!!

Reply

admin April 2, 2012 at 2:48 PM

Are you serious???!!! $20 for a spinner???!!! You guys must be making good $$$ down there! 😯

Reply

gid617 April 3, 2012 at 2:57 PM

And that’s the funny thing – people here dont make that much!!! (I do not buy very many legos here 😉 )Mostly the reason for the high price is that the government taxes imports a lot. (One nice thing is that you can get older legos, since they don’t sell out that fast)

I am very very happy that we have a store close to us. We called today and they didn’t get any Marvel sets nor the series 7. They think they’ll get the Marvel next Monday, the 9th, but no word on series 7.

Seem like both Apriland May were correct!!!
The lego minifigure website has been updated, but it says they woun’t be availible until may. I actually like that because it gives me more time to colect the series six minifigue.

Reply

admin April 5, 2012 at 5:27 PM

Good luck with finding all the series 6 minifigs! If nothing works you can always try Bricklink. I usually get the last figs I just can’t find there. They are a bit more expensive, but if you only need to get one or two from there it is not that bad. 😉

Reply

MegaRath April 7, 2012 at 8:42 AM

Do u know which packets have which minifig so then I can got to the store (since out in UK and I have Aztec warrior(not that good) and evil knight)and get the GALAXY PATROL!!! and Ocean King

Reply

admin April 7, 2012 at 10:32 AM

MegaRath, the Collectible Minifigures come in mystery-packs, so the only way to tell which one is in which packet is to feel for them. The Aztec warrrior should be easy to find as he has a huge helmet. So feel for that one. For the evil night, I would look for his shield.

I recommend picking up the packet and shaking it a bit so all smaller pieces fall in the same corner, and the larger pieces remain on top. Then feel for the small pieces in the corner, while having an image of all the minifigs in front of you (like the box image, or have one printed out). As soon as you can identify one of the small pieces you can tell exactly which minifig is in the packet. I found this to be the quickest and surest way to look thru an entire box of minifig-packets in just a few minutes. Good luck! 😉

I’d stack mine up like this:
1) Computer Programer
2) Bunny Suit Guy
3) Galaxy Patrol
4) Hippie
5) Aztec Warrior
6) Grandma Visitor
7) Rocker Girl
8) Evil Knight
9) Daredevil
10) Tennis Ace
11) Bagpiper
12) Ocean King
13) Bride
14) Jungle Boy
15) Swimming Champion
16) Viking Woman

Also, I hear that LEGO released the date in the US as May 1st, so that’s when I’ll start peeling my eyes in stores:)

Found some at TRU in Murfreesboro, TN today. $3.49 each so I just got 2. They still have series 5&6. First bag I felt the wedge piece so knew it was a dress. I was hoping for a Viking female. I finally found the sword to confirm it was. The other bag I grabbed I could not id. I haven’t been reading touch guides. I didn’t know what to look for and didn’t have much time so I just decided to chance it. Second bag was jungle boy. But he had two daggers they were still stuck together with the sprune from when they were molded.

Chris, I’m glad you were able to find Series 7! But that price! Ouch! 🙁

Reply

Chris of Yoda Archives April 19, 2012 at 12:09 AM

The local TRU had series 6 for $3.49. I passed on them at that price and got them at Target and other places. Barnes and Noble also had them for $3.49. I found a gray alien before I realized the price.
The only time I paid more for a blind bag was at store, that still had series 4 around Christmas. They were 3,99 but that was still cheaper that I could get online.

Reply

admin April 19, 2012 at 10:01 AM

Yeah, prices have been really going up. But as you said; to pay $3.50-$4.00 for a blind bag is over the top. I decided to be patient and just wait for a store sale or cupon, or until the prices come down on Bricklink. 😐
