2013 LEGO: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

by admin on September 5, 2012

in Other LEGO Themes

We were just talking about 2013 LEGO themes, (see: 2013 LEGO Theme Mystery – What is This?) so I thought to add this other interesting bit of news to the list: LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! :P

There has been rumors circulating about a LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme for some time now, that a source from the LEGO Users Group in Singapore recently solidified. According to member chongcheng a staff of a local LEGO shop said that LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles key-chains will be coming soon, which of course could only mean sets as well!

Currently there is no information about specific LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sets, except that they will be based on the new TMNT series debuting this September on the Nickelodeon TV channel. LEGO has worked with Nickelodeon before on SpongeBob SquarePants, which makes the whole idea of Ninja Turtles even more likely - although remember that until we get confirmation from LEGO, this news remains in the rumor category.

Please note that the image above is NOT an official LEGO image, but a project on LEGO CUUSOO, I just thought to add it here for reference. KeTi’s version of the LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is based on the original TMNT series, not the upcoming remake, but it still gives you a decent idea of what the famous Turtles could look like. And here is a poster for the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series:

What do you think of the idea of a LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme? Are you excited, or LEGO TMNT is not something you would be interested in? Share your thoughts and discuss below! ;)

Who do you think would win in a battle. tmnt or ninjago. ( that is if the bad guys work together with the good guys on each team)

In afight??? Ninjago would, just because they have mystical powers, depending on what version of teh TMNT you talk about, but then again even when the turtles do gain mystic powers it’s never as much as the NinjaGo have, so yeah NinjaGo would win

Um…. NINJAGO OFCOUSRE! No mutant turtles and samuri can beat ninja epic dragons (2 gold and 4 headid) plus multible samuri mechs and an almost invinsabke stone army!

BTW, you should probably put the M in there. TNT has to do with the exploading power (basically) of atomic/nuclear/hydrogen bombs. . . ;)

The whole fight would be based on what you know about the themes and your opinion……TMNT should have their own LEGO TV show

I loved TMNT when I was a kid. I honestly think this is a bad idea. LEGO needs to focus on in-house themes instead of all the licensing they have been doing. It’s rediculous. LEGO is a fantastic company but they are quickly alienating people like me who do not want to spend more money on less pieces. LEGO is my only hobby and I worry there won’t be much to choose from when the store is full of licensed themes.

Reply

Micho September 5, 2012 at 8:39 PM

I have to agree with the paying more money part LOL… and also th ein-house themes, please bring bacl Pirates and Castle

Antoinette September 5, 2012 at 8:53 PM

Exactly.

I agree too, (althoguh not a fan of TMNT) LEGO should do moer non-licensed themes. But it doesn’t make sense to me that LEGO would even consider doing another Ninja based theme so close after ninjago. It took years for LEGO to come out with another space theme after mars mission, then spacepolice, and then alien conquest. And it’s been a long time since the Ninja theme. Same with pirates, underwater themes – the only possible exceptions are racers and kingdoms/castly/kinghts. But on the other hand it seems fairly well confirmed. . . :?

Great points!!! It might mbe a good time for TMNT just becaus ethey have all the molds for the weopons from NinjaGo.

I’m okay with licensed themes when they ENHANCE an existing theme. Star Wars and Space. LotR and Castle. PotC and Pirates. These random licenses like TMNT and Sponge Bob just don’t make sense to me. They don’t augment anything, or expand anything. They are isolated on their own islands. Almost no cross over potential.

By the way, I was just in the Disneyland LEGO store in Anaheim,a nd they TOTALLY redesigned it, it’s sooooooooo awesome!!! They made MegaFigures of Aladdin, Jasmine, genie, Belle, and the Beast, I really wish that they were actual minifigs,s pecially Jasmine and Belle, since their dresses where soooo beautiful. The store is so different than what it was last year, I was like “WOW!!!”

Thanks Anna, sadly no pictures, we were in a hurry to catch a concert at the House of Blues, so I didn’t have too much time to browse around. We’re going back in November, so I’ll take some then.

I have seen Lego Ninja Turtles where I live. There was a there was a thing wher there was customs, old sets, and minifigure, and mindstorms. They had Michealangelo he had a normal minifigure head and the guy said he soon was going to sell all four of them with weapons

No strong opinions about this. Personally, the CGI promo for the show does not look that great compared the what I think about when I think of TMNT, but that’s the case with many reboots nowadays. Holding off a real opinion until we have confirmation and pictures. Actually pretty surprised how polarizing this appears to be based off of the comments.

Reply

Jon November 28, 2012 at 7:08 PM

I have to agree because the show made during the 20th centry was the most popular and the rest misfired horribly

Xi ninja September 6, 2012 at 4:05 PM

Wait! If mega blocks made some TMNT sets, then it is an enormously bad idea. Why would lego do such a thing, I do not comprehend. Wouldn’t mega blocks get mad?

Reply

Micho September 6, 2012 at 7:49 PM

they did the same thing with POTC, once the license expired LEGO picket it up. The contracts are only for a few years.

Reply

Jon November 28, 2012 at 7:10 PM

Hmm…I thought LEGO and Mega Blocks were run by the same people

He-he… make sure you never say that in front of a LEGO fan. They might shoot you, or explode… anyway it won’t be good.

Reply

Xi ninja September 6, 2012 at 5:30 PM

Didn’t you already upload that for us to read Micho? :? And if there already lego TMNT somewhere, then why would lego do it again? And you know not everybody would like ninjago replaced with TMNT. It’s not just us that don’t. Both of my brothers, a lot of my church members, and my brother’s friends don’t like this either. I almost want to start a rebellion if that means ninjago’s gonna stay. You don’t even know if I’m male or female do you?

Micho September 6, 2012 at 7:53 PM

For some reason that comment keeps getting pushed to the end no matter how many comments get posted after it. And Xi, please relax, LEGo has not even confirmed that TMNT will happen, much less that it will REPLACE NinjaGo, so let’s not get upset over something that we don’t know will happen, ok? I just think that LEGO TMNT would be awesome for ME, and a lot of other 30 year olds, and I personally would be willing to buy all of the sets as soon as they come out, so that is very smart for LEGO to put out TMNT, because I know a lot of my friends and cousins that are grown up will buy some of these sets. It will be a good way for LEGO to make money off of us and keep making other sets as well. Don’t you agree?

I really hope this is true. I think they’ll sell due to 80′s revival in toys. Look at toys shelves now and you find Transformers and GI Joe. And I think they’ll sell as crossover with the LEGO Superheroes and NinjaGo themes.

Reply

Micho September 6, 2012 at 8:08 PM

Has anybody thought of a crossover between TMNT and NinjaGo??? Like a team-up??? Even if LEGO doesn’t do it officially, how would you cross-over teh two themes???

I would put a Footsoldier squad with the skelletons… and have a little Nya Vs. Karai fight as well. Have MAster Splinter team up with Sensei Wu and fight Shredder and Lord Garmadon…. It’s be pretty epic!!!

Do the NinjaGo cartoons run on Nickelodeon? If so, don’t be surprised to see a possible crossover, TMNT did it with Power Rangers Galaxy in the early 2000s once. THAT would be COOL!!!!

WHY ARE THEY REPLACING NINJAGO? AND IF TMNT IS REPLACING IT I’M GONNA GET REALLY MAD!!!!!!!

Reply

Aubseywaubsey-ninja of Elfs September 6, 2012 at 10:05 PM

I don’t like this idea at ALL! I think its just as bad of an idea as LEGO spongebob.

Reply

Micho September 6, 2012 at 11:26 PM

LEGO has not confirmed either of those statements. Actually I don’t think LEGO “replaces” themes, they just discontinue and move on to the next theme. So even if TMNT does get manufactured it doesn not mean the REPLACE NijaGo, maybe when NinjaGo goes it’s just becaus eLEGO decides to discontinue it, not replace it with TMNT.

Sarah September 13, 2012 at 12:27 PM

This is very nostalgic for me. I grew up on TMNT, the original stuff in the 80′s and 90′s. While I’ve seen some weird incarnations of the turtles since then, the new stuff doesn’t seem too far off what I remember. So I am hopeful that these sets will be something I like and don’t go too crazy off the mark. On the other hand, if it offends every sensibility I have then that’s money I save and can spend on other LEGO. ;-)

OMG, Sarah, I was just thinking of you this weekend! I was wondering how you guys were doing! Nice to hear from ya! :)

I just read yesterday that TMNT is definitely coming. Supposed to be release in January. ;)
