Good news for those who have been waiting for the updated version of the #21303 LEGO Ideas WALL-E set! Our favorite little robot is now back in stock, all fixed up! As we have discussed previously (see links at the end of this post), the #21303 LEGO Ideas WALL-E went through a number of tweaks and fixes because of some issues with the neck that were discovered after initial release. Below is the official announcement from LEGO about the updated version and availability of the set, and more! 🙂
Dear LEGO Fans, we’re happy to share that we’ve resolved the neck stability issue on the #21103 LEGO Ideas WALL-E, and the set is making its way back very soon. “Only the Best is Good Enough” has been the LEGO Group motto for over 80 years, and it’s still our guiding principle today. This is especially true for our LEGO products; we expect them to deliver a consistently enjoyable and safe building experience for everyone. Unfortunately some customers have had issues with neck stability on our LEGO Ideas WALL-E. Therefore earlier this fall we decided to stop production and sale of WALL-E and fix the model.
Some of you, our creative LEGO fans, have suggested different solutions to improve WALL-E’s neck stability. Thank you for all of the input and advice, it’s been very helpful. We’ve taken your suggestions into consideration, and together with our design team have a solution that will make the neck more stable. Our factories in both Mexico and the Czech Republic are preparing to pack and distribute the new version of WALL-E as soon as possible. We expect WALL-E to be back on the shelves before the holiday season. Actual availability may differ between regions, so check the LEGO Ideas WALL-E page at the Online LEGO Shop for the latest info.
Thanks for understanding our commitment to the best possible building experience, and for the extra patience (and even a few laughs) as we all wait for WALL-E to have his neck fixed. We’re sorry for disappointing LEGO fans, both those who’ve had an unsatisfactory building experience, and those who are now frustrated they can’t buy the product. We hope you are also looking forward to the new and improved LEGO Ideas WALL-E model when it arrives!
This announcement was made at the beginning of December, and now WALL-E is back on store shelves and restocked at the Online LEGO Shop. If you definitely want to get the fixed version, I would suggest that you shop directly at a LEGO store or the Online LEGO Shop, as other retailers may still be carrying the first version. If you already have the original set, you can call LEGO’s customer service, and they will send you the parts necessary to build the upgraded neck area of the model. Below is a video by JANGBRiCKS where he compares the original WALL-E with the fixed version. It is very interesting to see the differences:
A couple of days after the announcement LEGO also published another post at the official LEGO Ideas blog, featuring a video with Angus MacLane, LEGO Ideas member and fan designer of the #21303 LEGO Ideas WALL-E set. Angus talks about his work at Pixar and the ten years he took to build and refine multiple versions of WALL-E that eventually became the LEGO Ideas set. I included the video for you below for your enjoyment.
Also thought to mention that there are no visible differences between the external packaging of the two versions of the set (same set number, same picture), so unfortunately you won’t be able to tell the difference just by looking at the box. However the instruction booklets inside the sets are different. As I mentioned above, to guarantee that you get the updated version, it is best if you buy the set directly from LEGO. It is available at the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.
So what do you think? How do you like the LEGO Ideas WALL-E? Are you planning to get him? Or do you have him already? Are you happy with the updated version? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below! 😉
