July 2016 – new LEGO sets & promotions

LEGO City is on fire! At least that’s what the July LEGO Store Calendar depicts. And there are also some fiery LEGO City Volcano sets that where released last month, with a second wave coming in August. But let’s take a look at what special promotions and new sets are available during the month of July. LEGO is great for play when it’s too hot outside! 🙂

LEGO Store Calendar July 2016

FREE LEGO CASTLE CLASSIC KNIGHT SET: You might remember that back in 2014 LEGO offered the #5002812 LEGO Space Classic Spaceman minifigure with a little robot sidekick. The set came in a very nice slide-out collectors’ box, with the old LEGO logo on the side and a booklet showing the progression of LEGO Space minifigures. In 2015 the collection continued with the #5003082 LEGO Pirates Classic Adventure set in the same type of packaging. And this time we are getting the #5004419 LEGO Castle Classic Knight, with a classic style LEGO Castle shield and a small catapult. LEGO VIP members can get the free exclusive LEGO Castle Classic Knight set with purchases of $50 or more until July 10th only. Don’t miss out on this very unique collectors’ item!

To match the new LEGO City Volcano sub-theme, you can get the free #30350 LEGO City Volcano Jackhammer with any LEGO City purchase of $35 or more. This offer is valid from July 15th to the 31st. You can check out the LEGO City Volcano sets – as well as other new LEGO City sets – under the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO CREATOR VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE: The #10252 LEGO Creator Volkswagen Beetle will be available early for LEGO VIP members on July 14th (general release will be on the 1st of August). You can see pictures and details, as well as the designer-video here: LEGO Volkswagen Beetle Coming! If you are a LEGO VIP member, you can find the set under the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.

#10252 LEGO Creator Volkswagen Beetle Box

LEGO CREATOR BIG BEN: The highly praised #10253 LEGO Creator Big Ben is now available for all LEGO fans not just LEGO VIP members. This is a perfect match for the previously released #10214 LEGO Creator Tower Bridge, and of course it could also be displayed on its own. You can learn more about this beautiful set here: LEGO Creator Big Ben Pictures & Details. It is listed under the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.

LEGO GHOSTBUSTERS ECTO-1 & ECTO-2: Just on time for the new Ghostbusters film scheduled for release on July 15, the #75828 LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1 & Ecto-2 is now available. People are quite skeptical about the film, but the LEGO set is definitely worth getting, as it comes with a very sweet looking vehicle and greatly detailed minifigures. You can find it under the LEGO Ghostbusters section of the Online LEGO Shop.

#75828 LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto 1 & Ecto 2

While this is all as far as new LEGO sets, remember that last month a very large number of new sets were released, including exclusives like the #42056 LEGO Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS, and the #21128 LEGO Minecraft The Village. Plus there are all the new LEGO City, LEGO Creator, LEGO Juniors, LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Bionicle and LEGO Mixels summer sets we have discussed previously (see links at the end of this post). If you are interested in getting the free LEGO Castle Classic Knight set, make sure you place your order before July 10th. Also, as I always mention, it is a good idea to take a look at the Sales & Deals section of the Online LEGO Shop before you check out. You can often find some great deals there on interesting older sets that are being retired. For example right now many of the older LEGO Bionicle sets, LEGO City sets and LEGO Ninjago sets are on sale. You can find them all under the Sales & Deals section of the Online LEGO Shop.

It’s definitely going to be the new Ecto-1 for me. Even though I don’t care for the film, this is a great vehicle. It has its plusses and minuses compared to the previous one, but I think they will look great next to each other. Also, they are good samples for similar vehicles. Maybe a black one?

When does the castle promo start? I couldn’t make it out on image of flyer. Thanks!

    • admin July 1, 2016, 12:17 PM

Andy, it already started, and lasts until the 10th. 🙂

  • Brick Addict July 1, 2016, 12:43 PM

“People are quite skeptical about the film” is an understatement, I know I have no interest in seeing it ‘:)

    • admin July 1, 2016, 12:48 PM

I was trying to be polite. 🙄

  • admin July 1, 2016, 1:26 PM

UPDATE: Really good news! I just got word that LEGO is permanently lowering the free shipping threshold to $35 starting this month! That means from now on you can make smaller purchases and still receive free shipping! 😀

  • BLProductions July 1, 2016, 5:29 PM

@admin, that is good news! Not that I buy on the Online Shop, but it’s great for everyone else. 🙂
I like that Classic Knight set, but sadly I won’t be able to get it. I’m saving until October/November. I also like Big Ben 10253, although I kind of prefer Tower Bridge, which is $10 less and 100 pieces more.
Also: http://brickset.com/article/22338/2017-marvel-mighty-micros-revealed And the DC ones as well. Some pretty sweet designs, I especially like Killer Moth’s and Thanos’ cars, but I still don’t like the minifigs’s faces. I can’t see the cuteness. 😕

    • admin July 1, 2016, 5:34 PM

Yeah, the lower price-point to shop online with free shipping is a huge plus for those of us who don’t life close to a LEGO store. I will definitely be shopping more often. 😀

I checked out the new Mighty Micros a couple of days ago. They are cute. But I agree with you that the faces could be better. That’s a pretty sweet Ironman helmet though. 🙄

      • BLProductions July 1, 2016, 9:22 PM

I read somewhere that the Ironman helmet is a new piece… a 2017 new piece. Is it too early to start counting them? 😉
Speaking of new pieces, I finished going through the updated LEGO set inventories, and made it to 119 new parts for 2016, which doesn’t include the majority of the many new minifig parts and most new Bionicle parts. A large quantity, but less than last year, at least.
Also, off-topic, but it seems something’s messed up on LEGO.com. All the pictures on the home page are off-set and half off the screen. Is this just me, or is it the site? 😕

        • admin July 1, 2016, 9:26 PM

Yes, the helmet is a new piece. LEGO is churning out new pieces this year like crazy! But to their credit, most of them are really useful parts or accessories. LEGO’s website looks fine to me. Maybe you just need to refresh the page? Sometimes things can get weirded out a bit. But yeah, for me it is working fine.

          • BLProductions July 1, 2016, 9:59 PM

Yeah, a large percentage of the new pieces created this year are plates, bricks, and technic elements, most of which are quite useful and appear in a number of sets.
I’ve tried refreshing the page many times, but it always reloads with the same off-set images. If it’s just my computer, then it’s probably because I haven’t updated my computer, so advanced sites don’t work well. It’s not a big issue, as long as the rest of the site keeps working. I’m still keeping up with the Ninjago episodes and other mini-movies.

            • admin July 1, 2016, 10:03 PM

Hm… that’s a possibility. Have you considered trying another browser? I use two browsers just for situations like this. If a website doesn’t work in one, I check it in the other. That was I can narrow down where is the problem. Some newer websites are made so fancy that unless you have the shiniest new computer and browser it is impossible to see them right. Not a very good strategy in my opinion…

              • BLProductions July 4, 2016, 12:14 PM

I don’t have another browser on my laptop, and probably won’t get one for now. I think the problem is my un-updated computer. I checked LEGO.com on another computer, and the home page has been updated so that all the images expand (or something like that) when the mouse hovers on it. That probably only works with updated browsers. 😕
Also, have you noticed the minifigs on the Star Wars TFA thing on LEGO’s home page? Some of those haven’t been in official sets yet… maybe they’re future minifigs.

                • admin July 4, 2016, 12:50 PM

Hm… yeah, that’s possible. The new pictures sort of jump a bit on LEGO’s homepage when you hover over them. Good eyes as far as the Star Wars picture! That’s awesome! 😀

  • Judith July 2, 2016, 5:31 PM

I purchased the Big Ben set (10253) a couple of weeks ago……my first ever large set. I enjoyed putting it together, and it looked great. It is now dismantled and back in the box as I have nowhere to display.

Yesterday I went to the Lego shop and purchased the #10243 Parisian Restaurant set. Think I’m going to go down the modular route. Whilst in the shop, I did the PAB for the very first time. I’m getting hooked on Lego! I also asked the shop assistant if she knew when the Buckingham Palace Architecture set comes out…….she thought it was October.

If my funds will stretch to the VW Beetle set, I’m going to get that. Mainly for nostalgia reasons and going back to my youth.

    • admin July 2, 2016, 10:18 PM

Nice! Those are some great choices! If you can find some good display place for them it would be even better. 🙂

  • Michelle July 3, 2016, 7:46 PM

Awhile ago, we answered questions for you, did that go to Lego? I don’t remember. I ask this because you posted the calendar, and it reminded me. I’m still a bit bitter about not having access to the benefits of the mini builds, etc!😉
I’m thrilled at the lower shipping rate, that has always been an issue for me.
Where are you seeing the new pieces? In the pick a brick section? Speaking of, have they improved that yet?
How does the comments feed section work? When I comment, I can’t seem to find out if anyone commented to me.
    Thanks

    • admin July 3, 2016, 9:03 PM

Michelle, yes, I have gathered all feedback from our community, and along with the feedback from other communities, they were all put together in a presentation and was presented to LEGO via a PowerPoint presentation. LEGO was very appreciative of the feedback from everyone. I can put together an article with the final presentation and LEGO’s feedback. It will of course take a while to see the results, but they were very appreciative of the thoughtful comments and ideas.

As far as comments, you can come back later to the site and see who responded to you, or you can also subscribe to the comment feed of a particular post. That should send you an email every time someone else comments on the article, including comments on your posts. Once you are no longer interested in the discussion, you can always unsubscribe from that particular comment feed. Does that help?
