LEGO minifigures are more than little plastic people… they are in fact an OBSESSION! Watch out, or they will take over your life! 😮
I have to confess; collecting LEGO minifigures is a large part of why I sink most of my money into LEGO. If you are like me, one of the best parts of getting a new LEGO set is putting the little people together, and seeing whether they make it up to your expectations. So after a couple years of this you’re bound to have a LOT of LEGO minifigs, right? 😀
So, what do you DO with all those LEGO minifigures? After a little while the excitement of having your evil knights hang a poor little good soldier on the wall probably wears off, and you begin to realize that the fun behind LEGO minifigs really isn’t playing with them. It’s collecting them!!!
Just like with collecting stamps, coins, and Beanie Babies (is there anyone who still does that?), your obsession grows and grows and you find yourself with a TON of LEGO minifigs! If you are a TFOL (teen-fan-of-LEGO) you can also use collecting as an excuse to still “play” with LEGO. 😉
So, how many LEGO minifigures do you own? I have about 100 LEGO Star Wars minifigures (pictured below):
Do you have a favorite LEGO theme from which you collect the minifigures? LEGO Star Wars is the theme I collect. Or do you really like collecting LEGO Ninjago? Or some other theme? You probably also have one set of people, or one minifig that’s your most prized. Which one? By far the highlight of my collection is the Jedi:
Do you go out and try to get the exclusive LEGO minifigures? Like a golden C-3PO? Or a chrome Stormtrooper? I have the Celebration Luke and Han that are pretty special.
What character do you want the most? Have you always tried to get a Lord Garmadon from LEGO Ninjago, but just couldn’t get your hands on him? Or like me, have you always wanted a LEGO Star Wars Boba Fett? 😛

Its so true,minifigures are indeed an obsession well: 1)My favorite lego themes are City and Collectible Minifigures. 2)I do not at all know my most precious minifig,I do not want to be in some weird cases be mean to other minifigs 🙂 so I don’t choose my precious one. 3)I would like to get some minifigs from any new lego minifigure series that comes out. 4)Not even the heavens know how many minifigures I own,estimation:1000- yep you heard right- I have been collecting lego for a LONG time
Sweet collection!! I don’t collect the collectible series just cause I can’t afford it. But City is cool! I totally know what you mean about not being able to pick a favorite. 🙂
My favorite theme is ninjago, and I love collecting the spinners so I have around 20 ninjago minifigures. I would probably say that the ZX ninjas, as a group, are my favorite (I only have Jay and Kai – and Kai is awesome) but I like combining pieces from differnt minifigures. I have 33 minifigures from the collectable series, and probably around 200 total. I really want Zane ZX but I’lll wait until his booster pack. I also want several of the series six and seven minifigures (especially tha tenis player, bunny, aztec, and butcher, + the minotaur). As far as my estimation, it’s been a long time since I’ve counted (or even built) all my minifigs. So I’m sure I have a lot (I’ve been collecting legos since I was aprox. 6 – and I’m a TFOL now). 😉

Just so you know, the spinner sets are made out of a cheaper Chinese plastic. Consequently, I do not buy them.
I don’t care about plastic 😉 I have 13 spinners.
Yah I’ve never bought Ninjago. Thats a long time collecting. I started about 3-4 years ago so I’m a pretty young collector. 😀
Great post, interesting discussion! Although I have around 500 minifigures, I don’t know if I would qualify for minifigure collector from a purist perspective. I’m an army-builder and customizer, and I like to make up my own minifigures, rather than collecting officially released ones. Although I do like some of the official figs too.
My favorite theme is definitely castle, and any other theme that is fantasy and history related (ninja, Lord of the Rings, Vikings, Native Americans, etc.). I pretty much like all minifigures in these themes, but again; I customize most of them.
One admission I have to make is that even though I love Star Wars, I’m afraid to get into collecting SW minifigs. There is an endless variety of them, and I’m worried I will go broke! I don’t have the space for them either. The only SW fig I could not resist is Aayla Sekura. She is the sweetest minifig ever! 🙂
As far as official figs, I very much like the collectible minifigures as they really opened up the possibilities with minifigures from themes LEGO hasn’t touched yet with a full line. I don’t collect all the minifigs from the series, but I do get the ones I really like. Even use them for army-building.
As far is which one is my most favorite minifig, I do agree with Nicolas; I don’t want to make any of them feel bad, so I don’t have a most favorite one. I like them all! 😀
Oh, and I also collect LEGO Friends. Do they qualify as minifigs? 🙄

Thoue are really cool!! I don’t have so many of the same (any army I could make would be very haphazard) And I don’t have that many minifigures either. I do like to create my own, reather than stick with the orginal minifigues (you can make so really awesome people that way!!)

I was wondering, you mentioned having a few star wars minifigs that you couldn’t resist. Which are they?
Ahem… I actually just counted my Star Wars minifigs, and I have exactly 50. I mean the ones I haven’t taken apart. I guess I’m addicted already. Seriously; I have no idea how they sneaked into my house! I thought I only had a few. Resistance is futile! 😈
But my favorites are the female Jedi; particularly Aayla Secura, Ahsoka and Shaak Ti. And I’m definitely getting that female dancer from Jabba’s palace (forgot her name). I also like Stormtroopers and clone-troopers, so I have quite a few of those. And I love the Endor camo rebels! I don’t really use them for Star Wars though, but as Marines. In fact that is something I often do; use SW torsos and other parts for my other minifigs. Like I love all the Jedi robes and have tons of those because they are very useful for peasants in pretty much any setting. And I use the black Sith robes for my ninja. 8)
WOW. They really are devious are they not?? I think her name is Oola btw. Have you ever taken shaak-ti or Ashoka’s head pieces and used them on an egyptian? hahahahaha
Oh, yes! In fact I have a whole Egyptian army using Ahsoka’s and Nute Gunray’s headgear! I painted them of course. They look sweet! 😉

1. Favorite theme for minifigs:
Definitely Star Wars. I’ve been collecting them from the beginning.
2. Most precious minifig:
That’s a tough one. I really like the ones based on my favorite characters like Boba Fett and Cad Bane. There are also a few of the collectible minifigs that I like above the rest like the luchador/wrestler and the old school robot from Series 1. But as far as “precious” goes (fondest memories, most played with) I would say it’s between a black Futuron minifig, an armored knight from the older caste sets and the Jedi Luke Skywalker on Endor from one of the first LEGO Star Wars sets back in 1999. I’ve swung the lightsaber around in that Luke’s hand so much that his wrist is loose and he has difficulty holding a lightsaber upright anymore. The knight and the spaceman were the main heroes during many a playtime of my childhood years.
3. LEGO minifigs to get:
I’m always looking forward to new Star Wars figures. The thing that’s great with Star Wars is that all the characters get a little bit of the spotlight. And it’s nice that the representation is there in LEGO as much as it is in Hasbro/Kenner action figures (granted there haven’t been as many LEGO figs seeing as how the action figures had a 20 year head start on Star Wars). No character gets left behind it seems like. I mean, we have a LEGO Wald! How awesome is that?!
Anyway, also on my radar are all the new super heroes and villains as well as the Lord of the Rings minifigs. And my wife loves Lord of the Rings, so I won’t even have to convince her that we should get those; she’s probably wondering why I haven’t pre-ordered them yet! 🙂
4. According to my Brickset collection I have 1000+ minifigs, over half of them are Star Wars, and about 100 of those are some version of Battle Droid.
Don’t you just get sick of battle droids!!!! 😉 . I only have a small number, and I’m already sick of them!! 😉 Those old school figs are pretty nice! I really like the variety in SW figs also.

I don’t like to discriminate so all of them are precious to me but if I had to pick, it would be Admiral Ackbar.

I have about 100 minifigs. I do not necessarily collect them; I just get sets with minifigs I like. If I had to pick, though, my favorites would be my really old Bobba Fett and Gamorrean guard that I got with Jabba’s prize, a set from like 2002. I also get a kick out of the old Hans Solo Carbonite. My favorite figures to collect are city most likely. I have two fire stations and several fire trucks.
Yah Ackbar is definitely a favorite character from SW! sadly I don’t have is fig :(. Han in carbonite is one of the most ridiculous things ever. in a good way!
hans solo carbonite was preetty cool, but I don’tget starwars. My favortie is Ninjago.

1. Star wars, DC superheroes and Indiana Jones. I think the gravity of seeing my childhood heroes taking on the form of my favorite childhood toy was to strong to resist.
2. Indiana Jones always gets my imagination going but like most i just have too many favorites to choose from.
3. I would love Boba fett lurking among my collection there’s something about him.

I collect ninjago My prized minifigure is my custom green ninja. I want to get the new chrome c-3po( because it will look awesome), The real green ninja, all the snake gererals, And the NRG ninjas. I do not know how many minifigures I have but I have old sets from when my brothers played with legos( they are now in there late 20’s) And I have been getting legos since when i was six ( probaly before that I just cant remember) I have collected series 2 to 6 of minifigures ( not one store by me has them) I probaly have well over 8,000

I love Ninjago, and own 50 odd figs from that theme. 15 from star wars, and a lot , lot more from various themes. I probably have around 150 or so. I dunno why, but I own a Darth Maul head…. I used it to make one of him!
My most precious is either a Yoda with colored eyes from the AAT, or a Iron Drone from Exo Force.
I have wanted a Boba Fett for 7 years now… I will fortunately get one when I buy the new skiff coming out soon.

I have pigs, cows, horses, dogs, mice, snakes, spiders, a crocidile, a shark, a monkey from the minifigures series, and several scorpions. I don’t think I have any others (at least not vary many)
lemme see, mouse, some horses, a think a scorpion, crocs, and sharks. 🙂
After reading the comments i’m so glad that i’m not the only person obsessed with Lego minifigs. i started collecting minifigs when i was a kid and bought the really cheap sets as i only wanted the minifigs…and then somehow i grew out of that phase..but when the minifig series came out..it got me obsessed again and now i’m collecting a whole variety of minifigs.. my favourite has to be the new marvel characters as i’ve always been a die-hard fan of Marvel..

I am obsessed with minifigures, but I was able to work around my obsession by focusing on taking photographs o the more than 5000 different figures. It is a bit like hunting for new species in the rain forrest. I then worked on cataloging the Minifigures into a book. Have a look at http://www.minifigure.org for the printed catalogs.

Ok , here are my pictures. There are more Legos than this. I have 1 shoe box full of minifigures (city , batman , ect.) and one full of vehicles and another for vintage vehicles. I also have a display case with 3 NBA minifigures and 3 minifigs I made at the Lego store. Last but not least , I have a series 7 display case that has 4 rare minifigs (1980’s to 2008) and , my fave discontinued theme , POWER MINERS. My fave theme is Star Wars
Fave minifig I have: Battle damaged Anakin (2010) , and Jedi Knight Anakin (2012).
Fave minifig that I DON’T have: Boba Fett with the original combined helment-and-jetpack piece.
Number of minifigures : 147 80% star wars.

I have that same Boba Fett clock. I was gonna get the DV one for Christmas but when I opened it it didn’t work. Very Nice collection, that emperor’s shuttle looks a lot bigger than I imagined…….
and where on earth did you get that grey baseplate? Its massive…….
Toys r us. It cost about $15 i think. My mom bought it for me for easter. OH! and did you pay full price for your boba fett clock ? Kuz i got mine for $4! And the Emperor’s shuttle is very large. It took me about 2 hours to build it Christmas day. It is one of my fave sets.

Thanks! I use it for special minifigs. The r2-d2 in the display case is misprinted. It came from Anakins Jedi Interceptor. And I didn’t have anything else to do with the lego magnets so I put a captioned minifigure and a minifigure of myself on the metal bars. There is a ninja on a magnet on the metal bar not seen in the picture. Like 5000 Bricks and recieve updates at

Just buy Kai in the small ambush set he comes in and you can purchase the classic head on ebay.
Yeah, it is sad the LU is gone! As far as your LU character, why don’t you just get a head with the classic smile and put it on a Kai minifig. Classic smile heads are readily available. 😉

hmmmm, which one are you talking about? The only minifig I’ve ever gotten outside of a LEGO product was the Mace Windu one. Is that the one you are talking about? I don’t think he is a custom ( even though his head stud doesn’t have that little grey patch most minifigs have and I don’t know why ) he was bought third party. I think its the same minifig that came with that republic assault ship thing from a couple years back.
btw, I do watch the Clone Wars, and believe me they are great!

I play with mine (I’m 15 k?) I got over 200 and I collected them when I was 3 stopped at about 15 and in 2009 I got the clone battle pack, this kid in front of me got the Chrome Darth Vader if I remember, rushing home thinking I would get one, never got one, I almost cried… Since then in 3 years I have brought over 180 figures 😀
2 I will do anything for the following: Chrome C3-po,Chrome Darth or even the shiny Stormy, the prices for these are disgusting, they’re supposed to be played with not sold for over £100!

I dont trust shiny people normally, but I somehow trust this lil guy. Besides, I’ve cleaned my lego mound of EVERY GOLD/SHINYGOLD PIECE I HAVE, AND MADE A PALACE FOR HIM!! heh heh, cant let all that work go to waste huh?

I collect any theme of minifig LEGO. I have got all series from 1 to 11 and a lot of other themes like Star wars, pirate of carribean, city, heros marvel ect. At the moment I would collecting all the characters of the Lord of the Rings :-). I love the mifig. It’s like a drug you always want more.

My favorite minifigure is the darth vader with the medal
1: Mostly Star Wars, though I ‘ve been itching to “expand my horizons”, so to speak.
2: Darth Maul with robot legs.
3: I’ve made a goal to collect the ENTIRE minifigures series 12.
4: Who can tell? My dad gave me HIS lego collection when I was little, and I’ve been hooked ever since ( I am 15.)
