LEGO Kingdoms Chess-Set available now!

LEGO Castle fans rejoice;ย a new LEGO Kingdoms chess-set just became available on LEGO’s website: #852273 LEGO Kingdoms Chess-Set. I have to say that LEGO did an excellent job keeping this one a secret from LEGO Castle fans! ๐Ÿ™‚

Here are the details on this new LEGO Castle set: Play chess with minifigures in regal LEGO Kingdomsโ€™ style! Build a 32-minifigure chess set with kings, queens and knights from the LEGO Kingdoms building sets โ€“ with weapons and accessories!

Build all 32 royal characters, then the blackย & white baseplate board! Put your army in place with their weapons and accessories, then battle with your opponent in a classic game of chess โ€“ LEGO style! Includes a storage box!

  • Features 32 minifigures with assorted weapons and accessories
  • Includes storage box
  • Play chess with royal minifigures and weapons!
  • Makes a great gift for fans of LEGO Kingdoms building sets!
  • 328 pieces Price $49.99

The molded castle-base looks very Mega Bloks-ish, butย on the positive side it keeps the price of the LEGO Chess-Set down. In fact, besides appealing to LEGO chess fans, this set is a dream for LEGO Castle army-builders; you getย 28 minifigures for $49.99! That’s $1.78 per minifigureย – an excellent price! Plus you also get a bunch of weapons, a 32 x 32 green baseplate, 32 white 4 x 4 plates, 32 black 4 x 4 plates, and many other parts. This is a dream deal in anyone’s book!

To check out further details and to buy go to LEGO’s website: LEGO KINGDOMS CHESS-SET AVAILABLE NOW, or click the box-image below. Please note there is a limit ofย 5 sets per household. I guess LEGO wants to limit the size of your army. ๐Ÿ™„

1st Comment… YES!!!! An you all thought Kingdom’s was dead… LONG LIVE THE KINGDOMS LINE!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m getting four of these… and 4 more to sell 5 years down the road.

  • Micho May 14, 2012, 11:25 AM

OK, so after the rush of getting the 1st comment on… LOL… Thank you Admin for posting this review as this is my favorite of all 5 Lego Blogs I check every day. On to my review… so God willing I will be at Disneyworld Resort on Wednesday… and staying by the hotel closest to Downtown Disney, where the Lego Store is located… I plan on picking one of these up while there,a nd will order the rest before they sell out, which these chess sets tend to.
I was reading another blog and people where complaining about the base… WHO CARES?!?!? Did you see all the minifigs??? theres 28 of them!!! That’s $1.78 per fig…. you can’t get that much value per fig ANYWHERE!!!! It’s probably the same material as the NInjaGo spinjitzy arena hologram thingie.
Chinese plastic??? No ones seems to know yet, but no biggie either, at least for AFOLs, it’s not like we’re gonna put them through an endurance test.
WOW!!! Almost every minifig comes fully equiped with a shield and a weapon!!!! BAZINGAAA!!!!! Ovoid Shields for both fractions…. WINNING!!!!
I guess this answers the old question… “Wheres the Dragon King”… they are lead by a wizard and a warrior forest looking chick… Ok so this one I would have liked to have the green princess from the Joust set instead.
I will not lie, I would have like the bad guys to be the FAlcon Knights, but I guess this means that they’re kicking it Old School again like on the 90s and we will probably have two fractions of good guys… Lion and Falcon Knights Vs. Dragon Knights…. wuishful thinking.
In conclusion… THIS SET IS LINSANE!!!!

    • admin May 14, 2012, 11:52 AM

Micho, I like your enthusiasm for this LEGO chess set. I agree with all your points; sweet minifigures, lots of weapons, and the unusual placement of the Wizard and the Forest Chick. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Since you are getting the set on Wednesday, would you update us on what you think? Personally I don’t mind the base, and I could even like it, but I would like to know how sturdy it is (like how thick is the plastic). And yeah, the price of this set is just sweet! ๐Ÿ˜€

      • Micho May 14, 2012, 12:10 PM

You betcha’!!! I will try to give ya’ll the skinny by Thursday. I also plan on picking up a few of those Evil Knights from Series 7, I have a lot of feeling around bags to do LOL…. Thanks Admin!

        • admin May 14, 2012, 12:29 PM

Micho, can’t wait for your report! Good luck with your shopping adventure! ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Tobymacboy May 14, 2012, 11:48 AM

I saw that on the website about 2 days ago. Looks good and is worth the ca$h. BTW did u get my email containing my new post?

    • admin May 14, 2012, 12:27 PM

Yes, I got your post. I just finished editing it and will post it tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. I also emailed you back just a few minutes ago. I think it is going to be a great conversation starter. ๐Ÿ˜‰

      • Dave e May 14, 2012, 6:03 PM

Whats the new post about ? The Chess is very Nice , From the Details to the Minifigs Once again Lego Good Job! ๐Ÿ˜†

        • admin May 14, 2012, 7:52 PM

Dave, you just have to come back tomorrow to see Tobyacboy’s post. I don’t want to spoil it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Fernando RT May 14, 2012, 3:21 PM

I would like to know if any of the pieces are glued together?

    • admin May 14, 2012, 7:37 PM

Fernando, it fully appears that nothing in the chess set is glued. Look at the description: 329 pieces, and “build your characters”. Both of those statements indicate that all of the parts are separate. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Micho is getting the set on Wednesday and planning to report on it, so you might want to check back on Thursday to see his update just to make sure. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Fernando RT May 15, 2012, 2:09 AM

I check the blog everyday, here and on your Facebook’s page! ๐Ÿ™‚

        • admin May 15, 2012, 8:20 AM

Fernando, I usually post here faster than on Facebook. I’m so not a FB person, so I sometimes forget to update there until like a day later. But I try. I know TBB has fans there as well. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Legodude19 May 14, 2012, 5:42 PM

wow, just wow, that is like the best deal ever! I may buy it and if I do, I’m not going to use it for chess , I’ll take the baseplates, figs, and silly plastic base and RUN! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • lego chronicler May 14, 2012, 6:13 PM

๐Ÿ˜€ I would to. I think that we should keep the integrity of LEGO and not have the pre-made base and instead put it together from regular pieces. If anyone has some snapshots of the base without the plates please tell me if there are any other uses for just the base, Thanks.

      • admin May 14, 2012, 7:59 PM

Micho is planning to give us a report on Thursday about the details of the chess-set, so stay tuned. I actually kind of like the look of the base. I’m thinking about using it as a foundation for a fort when I just want to throw together something quickly for a good battle. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Micho May 14, 2012, 6:14 PM

I know hu? There won’t be enough room in my King’s Castle for all these figs… but that will not stop me from buying multiples of this set. EPIC BATTLE TIME!!! =D

    • admin May 14, 2012, 7:49 PM

LOL! Yes, do so before LEGO changes its mind about the price! ๐Ÿ˜†

  • Micho May 14, 2012, 6:12 PM

WOW!!! The reactions on here so far are way different than on the other blog… I think that we, the followers of The Brick Blogger, are less angry at life than some people on other LEGO blogs LOL… that’s why this is my favorite blog.

    • lol thats hilarios i was just looking at this set earlier! ๐Ÿ˜† (not on TBB) ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜† ) ๐Ÿ™‚

    • admin May 14, 2012, 7:57 PM

Micho, yes, we are fortunate to have mostly enthusiastic LEGO fans around, although a little critizism never hurts to hold LEGO to a high standard. But yeah, a positive environment is always more pleasant. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Micho May 14, 2012, 7:54 PM

LOL… then you know what I’m talking about… there are some angry hard to please Castle AFOLs out there… hard to imagine someone being mad while building LEGO though (kinda like no one can be mad while eating an ice cream cone) LOL!!!

    • admin May 14, 2012, 8:29 PM

Micho, yeah, that’s my way of thinking also, but sometimes LEGO fans can fly off the handle too. It is probably from overall stress not related to LEGO. We do live in a stressful world after all. Down here in Florida we are lucky to have the beach, but not everyone has the luxury of white sand, blu skies, fluffy clouds and dolphins grinning at you. I lived in big cities before. I know how it goes. ๐Ÿ™

  • Jacob May 14, 2012, 8:02 PM

Its a shame that there is no “proper” king or queen for the dragons. Although you are right in being a good deal for minifigures, I already have most of the figures from the sets/ old battle packs. I might have tried to get it if it had a new dragon king and/ or queen. Also, like most of the chess sets, you don’t get a good shot of all of the figs based off of the official pictures. Anyways, I do like how they added some variety to the pawn weapons. the castle holding piece does look odd, but I kinda like it. Really bizarre that they are making new sets for kingdoms in this manner. I am curious if proper less expensive sets for kingdoms will continue when LEGO decides to stop Lord of the Rings (which is a multi-year licence.)

  • Tobymacboy May 15, 2012, 8:45 AM

One problem I found is that after a few chess games , the minifigures’ feet wont fit on the plates anymore! Pulling minifigures on-and-off a baseplate or brick makes the feet loose sometimes to the point that they cant stand anymore.

    • admin May 15, 2012, 8:50 AM

Hm… that’s a good point, but that could happen to all minifigs after a while. I guess that’s why the Fantasy Era Chess Set was so epic; the minifigs all had a base to stand on. It was a really gorgeous chess set! But expensive too! I don’t think anybody is planning to play chess with this new set though. This is for army-builders! ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

      • Micho May 15, 2012, 1:50 PM

I’m not even an Army builder, but for this set… I AM!!!!!! Anyone with connections to LEGO insiders try to find out if this maybe will have a GIANT counterpart as well… PUUUURDY PLEASE!!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

        • admin May 15, 2012, 1:56 PM

Micho, I’m not sure what you mean, but you can always ask Kevin. He works for LEGO. ๐Ÿ˜‰

          • Micho May 15, 2012, 6:49 PM

Kevin, a few years back LEGO created 852001 Castle Chess set, then a little later they released 852293 GIANT Castle Chess set… any chance of soemthing like this happening again… pleas egive us the insider tips =D

    • Micho May 15, 2012, 1:53 PM

Yeah that is a great point, I’ve never owned a chess set but what you say makes sense… I guess if you are gonna play chess and if you have a bunch of collectable minifigs laying around you could use those baseplates so there’s less wear and tear on the legs of teh chess figs.

  • Micho May 15, 2012, 1:56 PM

Tomorrow is the big day… when I get my hands on this chess set… Flying from PHX AZ to Orlando FL, boarding the plane in 12 hours exactly… first time flying too EEEEK!!!!! Lego Store at Downtown Disney here I come!!!

    • admin May 15, 2012, 2:03 PM

Micho, have a safe trip! I think you will get a real climate-shock coming from Arizona! You are going from the desert to the rain-forest! ๐Ÿ˜†

      • admin May 15, 2012, 2:05 PM

Also, I’m not sure if you know this, but Orlando has the largest PAB wall. So, if you need some bits and pieces it will be the perfect time to stock up. ๐Ÿ˜‰

        • Micho May 15, 2012, 4:38 PM

ALL RIGHT!!! I did not know that!!! BAZZZINGA!!!! I’m gonna hit that store very day since were taking 2 empty carry ons!!! Thank you Admin, and thank you for the safe wishes… My wife is really excited because she has wanted to go to Orlando since she was in Jr. High cuz that’s where Nick Carter from The Backstreet Boys is from… so I’ve heard from her LOL… she’s not so excited about going LEGO shopping though, but hey! she has no choice LOL. That rainforest climate will be perfect for our day at the Animal Kingdom.

          • admin May 15, 2012, 5:02 PM

Micho, the LEGO store is right in Downtown Disney, so you can let your wife visit some of the other places while you are shopping for LEGO. The whole area is not that big (you can confortably walk around), and is full of fun little places. There is a princess store right next door. ๐Ÿ˜‰

            • lego chronicler May 17, 2012, 5:13 PM

ALL RIGHT! Lets see, last time I was there there as also a Loch Ness Monster! Have a safe trip?

              • Micho May 22, 2012, 1:46 AM

Thank you Admin and Chronicler… I just got back home to Yuma, AZ today and just finished building my Chess set I ended up getting in PHX, so I’l leave my impressions here tomorrow.

                • admin May 22, 2012, 10:00 AM

Micho, I’m glad you were able to get it! Looking forward to your review! ๐Ÿ˜€

    CUSTOMER REVIEW

    THE QUEST:
Last Tuesday I stopped at the store in Arrowhead Mall in PHX, AZ. I talked to the store manager whoo said he had seen a preview set but that they didn’t have the set for sale, “maybe Monday”. On Thursday I went to the store in Down Town Disney, no Kingdoms Chess set. “I haven’t heard of a Kingdoms Chess set” told me the young “Brick Specialist” (LOL). I was very upset and started my tweeting frenzy to @TheBrickBlogger.
Yesterday on my way back to Yuma from Orlando I again stopped in at the Arrowhead Mall in PHX and BAZZZINGA!!!! There it was! I immediately snatched up 2 sets and did some other shopping around the store.

    THE UNBOXING:
While wifey was busy at Charlotte Russe and Forever 21 I grabed a bench and went to unboxing. NICE!!! I sent a twitpic to @TheBrickBlogger and took a look at what was inside the box.

    THE ANSWERS:
    -Storage case?
No, the box is designed to be the storage case, it’s a bit thicker than regular lego boxes and the whole top comes off, so the box is the storage case.
    -Minifig Quality?
Superb Lego plastic quality, no chinese plastic in this set. None of the minifigs are glued.
    -The Infamous Base?
The same material as the Ninjago Spinjitzu arena, NOT the plastic that the bases for the Castles in the 90s were made of.
    -Accessories?
As seen on the pictures, a lot of weapons and shields.
    -My Thoughts?
I am so ahppy I got this set!!! I want at least 2 more. I did pick up some Viking Women from Series 7 so I did a little modifying because I do not like the Dragon Queen that is included in the set. Oh yeah, It’s unnecessary but Instructions are included in the box. Plus I got a free Hulk minifig with my purchase.

Ask me if you have any other questions you might have before picking this up.

    • admin May 22, 2012, 5:05 PM

Micho, thanks for the excellent review! I’m glad the quest turned out succesful after a half-way across the country trip! ๐Ÿ˜€

I was curious about that storage-case as the description mentioned it, but I didn’t see anything on the picture. Glad to hear the minifigs are great quality! Also great to hear about the base! I actually like the look, and I was only worried it would be thin and flimsy. I’m glad it is not the case!

If you would like to include any pictures/video with your review just let me know. Thanks again and enjoy your armies! ๐Ÿ˜€

      • Micho May 22, 2012, 7:29 PM

I did take a few pictures to show the thickness of the box and the base if you would like them, I didn’t know how to submit them though.

        • admin May 22, 2012, 9:22 PM

Micho, if you like you can email them to me at admin@theBrickBlogger.com and I will add them to your review. ๐Ÿ˜‰

          • Micho May 23, 2012, 3:11 AM

            will do, thanks =)

            • admin May 23, 2012, 9:43 AM

Pictures added! They do help a lot to see how the whole thing looks like. Nice! Looks like your evil knight couldn’t wait to see who was inside! Someone to fight! Yay! ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

              • Micho May 23, 2012, 11:18 AM

Thanks Admin, the pics look great on The Brick Blogger =)

    • Toycardriver May 22, 2012, 11:19 PM

Micho, that’s funny. I was in the same store on Wednesday and they had just gotten them in. It never fails that when you are waiting for something, it always shows up after you stop. Kind of like the UPS man showing up after you spent all day waiting for him, and you just left the house to run a quick errand! (I speak from experience!)

      • Micho May 23, 2012, 3:09 AM

LOL, yeah the GM told me yesterday when he saw me. He said “Hey look we go the chess sets in. That same day you asked me we received them and I thought ‘Oh man that guy was looking for these'” Classic!!! LOL

  • Quad June 26, 2012, 12:35 PM

That looks awesome! I’ve always loved the chess sets.
