Is it true? Will Ninjago really end in 2013? This question has been hanging in the air for quite some time. The answer still isn’t quite clear – at least not yet – but I do have some related news that you may find interesting, and they may serve as puzzle-pieces to the answer. 🙂
I asked a LEGO representative about the fate of Ninjago and received the answer, “To be honest, I have not heard anything like that about the ending of Ninjago. There is always room for expansion and changes, but at the moment I cannot confirm any of those ideas.” What does this mean?! I was also told this, “I can tell you that we have sets for the Ninjago line planned for the whole 2013 year.” So if Ninjago is going to end, it doesn’t seem that it would end in 2013!
Several months ago I asked a similar question and received this answer, “We do not have any confirmation that the Ninjago series will be discontinued in 2013.” Now, listen to what really is interesting, “So if you have not heard anything directly from the LEGO Group, it might not necessarily be true.” Everybody who heard this news probably never heard it directly from the LEGO Group. I heard that people got the news from Brickipedia. Have you been around the LEGO Message Board and seen headlines like “Ninjago Ending in 2013” or “Ninjago Ending”? Well, since one – or should I say hundreds – say one thing, now everyone believes it!
In the upcoming Ninjago comic-book, Warriors of Stone by Papercutz, you can see that the ninja are in some kind of outfit that has never been seen before. This book is supposed to be released on February 5th 2013, and it looks like the ninja are facing yet another villain, the stone-army, which may mean more Ninjago episodes starting in February!
I wasn’t told anything about the Ninjago sets to come, but I can say there will be a new line of LEGO Ninjago sets and Ninjago minifigures sometime in 2013, most likely in January! I’m sure we all will look forward to the new sets of Ninjago! Here is the list of the first wave if 2013 Ninjago sets:

There is one other question Ninjago fans have been asking: “When will the new Ninjago episodes start again on Cartoon Network?” I looked at CN’s website and found nothing. But I was told by a LEGO representative that the next new episode of LEGO Ninjago will air on Wednesday, September 26th at 8pm! I’m not positive that it will be aired, but let’s hope so!
So in the end, I find these bits and pieces of news very interesting and hope you enjoyed it too! Looking at it all,I don’t think LEGO Ninjago will end in 2013, but what do you think? There is one thing LEGO has been consistent all these years. They always end themes like Ninjago. All themes that aren’t “evergreen” have a lifetime. I like it that way so they end on a high note.
This doesn’t mean in a few years they won’t revisit it as they have with other themes. Space Police I, II, III. Various Pirates. Dino Attack and Dinos. Aqua Raiders and Atlantis. Etc…

Actually, I am currently looking at the TV guide now, wed. 26th is Dragons: Riders of Berk. and Lego star wars is THURSDAY, and apparently, october 3rd is Dragons: Riders of berk also, this may be updated, but its what im looking at right now

In case you haven’t heard but one of the Lego workers already comfirmed that Ninjago will discontinue in 2012 DUH!!!!

I think that they might be just stopping the spinners. Because, there will be no spinners in 2013, and LOC will have something similer in 2013, and if LOC continues, I think It will only replace the spinners 😉

I agree, though I guess Ninjago is technically “not ending” in 2013 since there will be that one mentioned wave, but there won’t be anything else (except maybe an exclusive) – earlier we heard from a LEGO Rep who said Ninjago would be on the shelves through 2013 but that will be the end. 😉
I decided to let Nathan’s post play out. Yes, Kevin Hinkle (he works for LEGO) clearly said that Ninjago will not continue beyond 2013, however it is true that a lot of people interpreted this as Ninjago ending in early 2013. So Nathan does make some good points and provides evidence for those who believed the Ninjago is ending early next year.
There is obvously another wave of sets in early 2013 (perhaps even available by the end of this year), and LEGO will continue to make those available till the end of the year. I wouldn’t be surprized if even a summer wave of sets would be added.
Kevin did not say anything about new episodes in either way. Obviously this season of episodes will play out, but if there is a wave after that nobody knows. At least no LEGO representative said anything about that. 😉
When I heard Ninjago’s ending in 2013 I thought it meant early in 2013 and I think many many others did too!
Of course, we still don’t know for sure it’s going to end in the beginning 2014, even though he said it doesn’t mean it’s true… 2014 is a long ways away so now one can be sure what LEGO’s thinking, maybe even LEGO doesn’t know what will become of Ninjago!
But I say let’s enjoy this new year of Ninjago and let’s end this talk about Ninjago in the future! I’m getting kinda tired of telling soooo many people that it’s not ending in 2013! LOL! 😆

It’s just not smart of TLG to end NINJAGO. It makes sense that The Legend of Chima would replace the spinners (see NRG Pythor’s comment several replies above) since they are not popular, but the NINJAGO cartoon is.
i like the idea of more episodes & sets, but we need to get through chima so there can be a different theme after that too!

I think you may be being a bit optimistic there… A lot of people DID hear about Ninjago’s conclusion directly from TLG, specifically from Kevin Hinkle, the community coordinator for the North American market. He stated at the event BricksCascade in Portland, Oregon earlier this year that Ninjago was not going to continue in 2013. After pressed for answers from many people, he double-checked and realized that he had been incorrect. The theme -had- been planned to end in 2012, but after extremely strong performance, it was extended and would have at least one more wave in 2013.
The news that there will be sets through 2013 seems promising at first glance, but it should be noted that LEGO representatives have given similar answers in the past for discontinued themes. They are not incorrect or deliberately trying to be misleading when they say that, but they tend to mean this in that sets will remain on store shelves throughout this time, not that there will be new sets coming out consistently throughout the year.
It’s also possible (and I hope this is not the case) that the next wave is the final wave, but TLG will be splitting it into two waves for the U.S. like they did with the Power Miners and Atlantis themes’ final waves.
Since then, most messages have been mixed, but we recently got news that essentially confirms that the TV show, at least, will be ending: “LEGO Ninjago Masters of Spinjitzu: The Complete Series” is scheduled for a DVD and Blu-Ray release in early 2013(http://ninja.brickcraft.me/wiki/News:Upcoming_Ninjago_DVDs_Announced ). This is not possible unless the TV series is ending.
I’m a big fan of Ninjago, but truth be told I do not mind if it is ending in 2013. It really feels like the TV show is moving towards a true conclusion this season, presumably culminating in the final battle between Lloyd and his father. And I appreciate a good conclusion. Better to end it when the writers intended than to drag it on with tacked-on story arcs until it stops being successful and has to be hastily wrapped up. In my opinion here’s nothing wrong with a story being short as long as it is [i]complete[/i], and it feels like Ninjago will indeed be wrapped up in a satisfactory way.
By the way, great article. When I was a KFOL I doubt I could have organized my thoughts quite so well (even today, as you can see, I tend to ramble).

We have heard from a very reliable source at LEGO, LEGO Employee that Ninjago will not be extended beyond 2013.

If you are referring to Kevin, yes we heard the same thing from him. However as Nathan mentions in the article he also talked with other employees who mentioned otherwise. So at this point there is no agreement amongst even LEGO employees, which makes it hard to know for sure.
I’m pretty positive 2013 will be the last year for Ninjago, at the same time Nathan does make some good points worth discussing. 😉

The Brick Show, I love your show and your reviews, but there is no confirmation as of right now that the Ninjago line will be discontinued beyond 2013, at least that’s what Lego said when ntk reached out to them. Plus, I would not find it reasonable to “make space” for another line that would discontinue such a successful theme. Ninjago is one of the most popular themes of Lego, and I don’t see any reason to cancel it. Ninjago has a huge fanbase, and is a main theme for Lego, and atleast right now, there is no reason to abruptly end a huge line that is loved by so many. I think that Ninjago will be here with us for atleast the next 365 days and so forward.
