We just talked about LEGO CUUSOO a few days ago with news and updates on recently approved LEGO-fan created projects that LEGO is considering for production (see: LEGO CUUSOO Update & Project Reviews), and today there is more good news; the LEGO Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine by LEGO-fan m.togami is coming soon! 🙂
The LEGO Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine reached the required 10,000 public votes and was approved for production by LEGO last December. After hearing nothing for 6 months and starting to wonder when this set will be released, we finally got an official release date and also some pictures to see what the set will look like, so let’s take a look! (You can click image for larger view.)
The above image of the LEGO Back to the Future DeLorean is from BrickNews.com, a LEGO fansite from the UK. It shows the LEGO Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine, the box-art, as well as the minifigures; Marty McFly and Doc Brown. It also mentions that the booklet that comes with the set will include not only building-instructions but also info on the Back to the Future movie production, selected original stills from the movie, and fun details for BTTF fans. The instructions also give the opportunity to add details to the car to modify it into three different versions that represent the three different movies.
The LEGO Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine set is scheduled for release on the 18th of July and priced at £34.99. If and when this set will be available in the USA and other countries is not yet known.
LEGO fans have been eagerly waiting for the release of this set as many of them grew up with the movies. However since the first images appeared of the official set, re-designed by LEGO from the original CUUSOO submission, there has been a lot of disappointment as well. The minifigs look fine, but the DeLorean seems to be looking worse – especially the hood. Hopefully the other features are better designed and compensate for the ugly front. It appears that the DeLorean may light up on the inside judging from the faint red light, and the controls do look good. 🙄
What do you think? How do you like the LEGO Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine? Are you a fan of the movies? Is this a set you are interested to get? How do you like the final design compared to the original CUUSOO submission? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

Well, I guess the rumor of it waiting until 2015 was wrong. Just hope that it stays in production that long because that will likely be when interest is highest. I was worried at first when the image was first shown without minifiures, but now that we see they are present, it looks like it will sell better. I do hope the other versions are why the hood looks so off.
AWESOME! I love those movies 😀 cept…They were cheesy 😐
Yeah, movies from that era are pretty much all cheesy. But they were awesome too. And especially BTTF is a real classic. A little bit of cheese is good for you! 😉
You can never go wrong with grilled cheese
Despite being born approximately 14 years after the first movie came out, I still thoroughly loved it. I remembered first seeing it at FOX Movies Premium once, where they ran all three in conjunction. However, I did miss the first one. I am particularly not a person who pays attention to detail, and isn’t really bothered by the lack of it, as long as I can look at it and identify the thing as such. I can still clearly see it’s a DMC DeLorean, so it’s good for me. But even someone as ignorant as I can’t ignore that ugly hood. Being a fan, I might still go for it. I would like to ask though, is CUUSOO sets available in official LEGO stores in say, Britain, or is it only in the online shop?
I don’t know in other countries, but at least here in the USA they are also available at LEGO stores and I have also seen them at Toys’R’Us.
I can’t wait! I built my own delorean, several years ago, without plans. I’d love to display them side by side:)
I’m glad they added the mini-figs. I really like the Marty McFly one. Something is a little off about the kit just doesn’t look asss polished as most kits.
Still is is the first CUUSOO project I supported that has been made.
It doesn’t look “ass polished”…?
Still it is the first CUUSOO project I supported that has been made.
The price may determine if I purchase it. £34.99? online currency convertor puts that as $54 USD. I guess we wait till LEGO reveals the price and more images.
Chris, usually LEGO sets are much cheaper in the USA, so we shoudl get a better price than the straight conversion. 😉
Yeah it is always cheaper over the pond 🙂
With my knowledge of lego €34.99 £29.99 and $29.99 as well…….
I think 🙂
Huw just shared the following in the LEGO blogs/websites owners group the following: Kim sent me a BTTF DeLorean to review and I built it yesterday. Unfortunately it is as bad as it looks. The front is terrible, particularly the windscreen pillars. From some angles it looks fine, but not from the front or the three-quarters view shown on the box. The bonnet is shaped as it is because it can be converted to the episode 3 version, with some extra greebling. The figs are pretty cool, though…
at first when they weren’t showing or talking about this idea for a long time I got a little disappointed, me and family really like this movie so I was pretty excited to hear that LEGO might make it! and now they are!!!!!! definitely going to buy this set! the one from the second movie because it can FLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think the next set LEGO should do, is E.T. I mean they have done(still doing ) star wars and then they did Indiana jones. Why not E.T.?
True! All Steven Spielberg… nice catch!
And the themes composed by the same guy…
Spielberg wasn’t involved in the Star Wars movies. They were directed by George Lucas.
Lucas did writing and producing for the Spielberg-directed Indiana Jones films, though…
I like it. The only thing I would have done is added some windshields. I like the hood, the initial proposal looked too smooth to be a Delorean. It’s a shame it will never be 50% off, I could have bought three and built all three versions.
M.togami actually has another CUUSOO project with a larger, more accurate version of the DeLorean that has Power Function! I was considering adding it to this article, but then I thought it would be too confusing. But you can check it out here: http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/8889
Ouch!! Now THAT’S hot!!! Wish I hadn’t seen that one becaus eit makes the official one look like a dud LOL
Man, I feel soo old here…all I can think of Hughie Lewis and the News singing:
“That’s the Power of Love”
lol
And Marty riding his skateboard holding the back of a police car XD
Naw, you will never get old! LEGO will always keep you young! That’s a very deep secret of the LEGO hobby. 🙄
I am over the top excited for this set!!!! I am a HUGE fan of Back To The Future. It’s ironic because I remember as a kid thinking: “It would be cool of there would be Lego Back To The Future!” and here it is! I think the design Lego made is fantastic. I don’t have any complaints. The minifigures look absolutly awesome! I just can’t wait for it to come out! I am buying it the day it comes out!
is it just me or do the minifigs look a little like Jay and his dad
LOL! Ninjago in everything! Yeah, they do look a bit like that. 😀
This is soooo off topic but I just ordered Jek 14’s starfighter and am getting Jor-el and the splinter key ring as well as free postage 😀
I’m happy now lol
Good for ya! Enjoy your starfighter and let us know how you like it! 😀
It arrived today and is just as awesome as it looks Jek 14 is epic and the other guys are too -probably a bit too much on the pricey side but its worth it. 😀
To put it short awesome epicness of brilliance 🙂
Awesome! I can’t wait to get my hands on Jek-14! I need that trans-blue arm badly!
Cool! I have seen these many times and for a long time have wondered what they were. Now I know. 🙂 BTW, I just got out my dojo MOC and blew the dust off of it again. Admin, I might email you some pics of it.
doesn’t lego give out the jor-el minifig anymore?
p.s. just curious. cuz I went on lego.com and he’s not on the homepage!
The deal might have ended. Let me check…. yup. It just ended at 11:59 p.m. EST. today.
Wow I was lucky then
I got Jor-el today as I ordered Jek 14 s starfighter on Saturday………omg I’m amazing 😀
This looks AWESOME!
I can’t see any of my own comments!
oh, now I feel stupid, I saw that one. 😀
Ike, all your comments are there, but sometimes you may need to refresh the page to see them all. Especially when we have a lot of traffic comments are delayed a bit to make sure everyone can be on at the same time. 🙂
the front looks so completely messed up… the CUUSOO version is way better:(
Yeah, the front is my complaint too. I’m looking forward to seeing mroe pictures and maybe a designer video before making a decision about this set, but right now I would pass on it. 🙁
Hello every one! sorry i hevent been on lately. this comment in not about the post (although it is a good one). I need some advice, i’m afrade that my dark ages are comeing 🙁 . I still love my lego, but i play with them less and less. Insted, I spend way to mutch time on comeputer games. what should i do to hold on to my love of lego?

I would recommend reading Strider’s post. Just click on Brick Bulletin up on the top right hand corner of this page. You’ll see the article. It’s called “When the Dark Ages Creep up on You….” and it has some good tips.
I’m sorry, but this looks HORRIBLE compared to the proposed version. It loses all of the style and uniqueness of a DeLorean. I can only hope the final version changes, otherwise this is a pass for me. Which breaks my heart.
Nice!
Hey Guys I am speaking from school
Just dont’ get in trouble! 🙄
