LEGO has been releasing a series of fantastic, smaller promotional sets under the LEGO Houses of the World and LEGO Restaurants of the World collections.
The LEGO Houses of the World collection was released in 2003 and included four sets featuring highly detailed mini buildings. The four sets in the series were the #40583 LEGO Houses of the World 1 (South American architecture), #40590 LEGO Houses of the World 2 (North African architecture), the #40594 LEGO Houses of the World 3 (Swiss architecture), and #40599 LEGO Houses of the World 4 (Chinese architecture). Although the sets were not minifigure-scale, they made a nice miniature street scene. Although these sets are no longer available from LEGO directly, you can still find them on the secondary market, like eBay, BrickLink, etc.
This year, LEGO launched a new series featuring restaurants from around the world. So far, two sets have been released: the #40906 LEGO Restaurants of the World: Japan, a promotional item in February, and the #40907 LEGO Restaurants of the World: Mexico, a promotional item available until the end of this week with purchases of $180 or more at the Online LEGO Shop.
Both sets released so far are colorful, delightful, and minifigure scale! Which means you can add them to your LEGO City displays, or just collect them on their own. They are full of interesting parts, unique stickers, and other nice details, plus a minifigure. We could expect that there will be more sets in this series, so this is a good time to start to collect them now, before prices on the secondary market go up.
Again, the second set in the series #40907 LEGO Restaurants of the World: Mexico, is currently available on purchases of $180 or more at the Online LEGO Shop.
What do you think? Do you collect small but highly detailed promotional sets like these? What other locations would you like to see in the series? Feel free to share your thoughts and discuss in the comment section below!
