As we get closer to the release of LEGO Nexo Knights in late December/early January, more and more information gets revealed, so I thought this was a good time for an update. We have discussed LEGO Nexo Knights previously (see links at the end of this post), but in short LEGO Nexo Knights is an original story by LEGO depicting a medieval kingdom set in a futuristic world where five young, brave knights “download” special powers to their shields in order to battle the royal court’s evil Jestro and a cast of monsters to restore peace. The story will come to life through LEGO building sets, a television show with 20 episodes, a digital gaming app, and more. 🙂
➡ LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS TRAILERS: To introduce the story and characters of LEGO Nexo Knights, LEGO has been releasing a number of trailers. While I found the sets a bit too unusual at the beginning, now that I have been watching the various trailers and teasers the sets make a lot more sense. These short clips are funny and enjoyable with great graphics and LEGO humor. Below are some of the latest ones:
➡ LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS SETS – MORE PICTURES: We have discussed several of the LEGO Nexo Knights sets already, but since then even more pictures have become available. The largest is the #70317 LEGO Nexo Knights The Fortrex with a blue castle on tracks – such a crazy contraption that it actually looks good. There are other interesting sets as well. The #70327 LEGO Nexo Knights The King’s Mech and the #70312 LEGO Lance’s Mecha Horse are some of the more unusual ones, while the #70315 LEGO Nexo Knights Clay’s Rumble Blade resembles some of the Ninjago sets.
And the side of the baddies looks awesome. With a devilish looking red, black, fiery orange and brown color-scheme I actually like them even better than the good guys. There is a good number of small to medium-size sets, with a few large ones, so this theme will definitely fit everyone’s budget. I have posted some of the pictures here, and you can find the rest of them in the Brickset database.
The initial feedback to LEGO Nexo Knights has been a bit like the reaction to LEGO Ninjago. Older LEGO fans were confused about the mash-up of different styles and time-periods, while kids eagerly embraced a fresh look on a timeless story. And Ninjago keeps going strong to this day. I’m not sure if LEGO Nexo Knights will get as popular as Ninjago, but based on the trailers, it may have a better developed storyline and characters than LEGO Legends of Chima. I found Laval really-really annoying…
So what do you think? Do you believe that LEGO Nexo Knights have the potential of becoming as big as LEGO Ninjago? How do you like the trailers and the characters so far? And what do you think of the LEGO Nexo Knights sets? Are there any sets that you definitely plan to get? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

I doubt it will become as big as traditional Ninjago, as that theme also contains a lot of sets which can be used to depict a traditional theme, which from what I see here looks a lot harder if not impossible to do with Nexo Knights. However I do think that this theme will become more popular than Chima, which was to Ninjago what Hero Factory was to Bionicle, namely mediocre.
That’s how I feel about Nexo Knights too; not going to be as popular as Ninjago, but better than Chima. I think a lot will depend on how good is the TV show. So far the trailers have been fun.
Personally, I think that hero factory was better compared to bionicle than Chima was compared to ninjago. Nexo Knights seems to have good potential to be way better than Chima. I saw on just2good’s channel that it has small $10 packs like the ninjago spinners or Chima speedorz, but I have no idea what the associated game/activity will be. It will probably be related to the app, which would be disappointing because the Chima and ninjago packs have such great physical play potential, but these wouldn’t. At least they have good parts.
I’m wondering abut the game involved with Nexo Knights as well. According to what I have read, the shields somehow connect to the app, but from looking at the small sets they do look like they have some kind of physical play-feature as well. They all come with the same type of stand, and there are extra weapons and other accessories. Maybe not a dynamic game like Ninjago and Chima with spinners, flyers and vehicles with ripcords, but more like board-game type of thing?
I just don’t see anything appealing about them. They look cartoonish and forced to me like someone was trying much too hard.
It’s possible my grandson will feel very differently about them but I won’t be buying him any.
There’s also a rather nasty aggressiveness to them that I have a very negative reaction to.
I think the sets look spectacular, but that the show looks terrible. I’ll watch it, but the characters seem pretty annoying. I’m actually kind of hoping this theme bombs, only because it replaced Chima. F_F
It’s fascinating what LEGO manages to come up with these days. This theme sounded like it has a lot of potential, but I’m not so sure about the actual products (both the show and the sets). 😕 I’ll watch the show if I can, as a holdover until Ninjago starts, and to see how the characters act. In terms of sets, some of them look awesome, but some look a little thrown together. I plan to save for Fortrex, and maybe Clay’s Blade Cruiser (that name is much better than “Rumble Blade”). The Ultimate sets look like good parts packs (4 bananas in one!), but not much else. Speaking of parts, there’s a lot of new ones here; it may be time for 2016 new pieces part 2. 😐
Yeah, lots of interesting parts in these sets! 😀
The last one on the knights side kind of reminds me of the ninjago vehicles
I feel like the second red set seems a little too close to a podracer. 😛
Exactly…
While I am sure the kids will love this mash up. I won’t be buying any of it.
I and a lot of AFOL’s are disappointed that Medieval Castle theme hasn’t returned after the lackluster attempt from a few years ago. Most were hoping for a return to the Fantasy line with its great architecture and non castle type builds like the market square and the windmill farm. Also the dragons, goblins, dwarves, ogres, possible elves and the human factions of lions, crownies and dragons, plus the possible teased return of the black falcons in the jousting set were a big draw card to many.
I really think LEGO dropped the ball on this, the LOTR and Hobbit lines also missed great opportunities for sets that the fan base would have lapped up. Now they are killing the castle line with this abomination which is themed as castle…please!
Yeah, I’m pretty sure also that this theme will more appeal to kids than adults, just like Ninjago. And yes, I can also understand the disappointment of adult LEGO fans who haven’t gotten a normal castle for a long time. If Nexo Knights perform well, LEGO might release a super awesome and more traditional castle, like they have done with the Ninjago temple. If not, then hopefully the normal castle theme will come back soon. And yes, LOTR and The Hobbit could have been so much better…
Ok…I’m sorry to say LEGO, but you failed miserably… Most of the characters look like they are customized way too much and don’t even look like LEGO…The videos look pretty good, for graphics, animation, ect… But, the bouncing red balls?!?! What is this? Evil veggie tales? The sets compared to how they look in the videos look horrible…. I’m sorry LEGO, but it’s a no….
Evil tomatoes… why not? 😈
Oh wow just watched the video… That looks extremely cheesy and yeah… Bouncing evil tomatoes…
He…he… you didn’t see that coming, did you? You thought tomatoes were just some innocent veggies. 😉
Of course not! I’ve already seen Return of the Killer Tomatoes…
