Happy New Year, and welcome to 2016! To make sure the new year starts out with a bang, LEGO always releases a whole range of new sets, and even new themes! So without further ado, let’s take a look at all the new LEGO sets that were just released and are available now. 🙂
➡ LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS & FREE SET: LEGO Nexo Knights is replacing LEGO Legends of Chima as the main big bang line with a whole range of sets, a TV series, digital game, and more. The signature set of the theme is the #70317 LEGO New Knights The Fortrex – a high-tech fortress rolling on tank-threads! And the set can be combined with the #70324 LEGO Nexo Knights Merlok’s Library for an even bigger castle. The #70315 LEGO Nexo Knights Clay’s Rumble Blade is another excellent set, with a vehicle shaped like a dagger that can be split into four smaller vehicles! Also notable is the #70327 LEGO Nexo Knights The King’s Mech. There are many great sets on the side of the badguys as well, the largest being the #70316 LEGO Nexo Knights Jestro’s Evil Mobile; an awesomely evil red//black/brown vehicle with fire coming out everywhere. There are also some smaller sets called LEGO Nexo Knights Ultimate Knights, including one minifigure, and several shields that can be used as powers in the game. So far the response to this combination of futuristic-castle-magic theme with a LEGO Ice Planet color-scheme has been received enthusiastically – it is too crazy not to like! And to help you with your purchase LEGO is offering a free LEGO Nexo Knights Intro Pack with any purchase between January 1-10, or while supplies last. You can find all the new sets under the LEGO Nexo Knight section of the Online LEGO Shop.
➡ LEGO FRIENDS ADVENTURE CAMP & FREE SET: LEGO Friends got a new sub-theme called Adventure Camp. The biggest and most impressive of the sets is the #41122 LEGO Friends Adventure Camp Tree House with a climbing wall, waterfall with turning bridge obstacle, tire swing, and camp-base with kitchen. Another impressive new LEGO Friends set is the #41135 LEGO Friends Livi’s Pop Star House, which is the latest in the previously released LEGO Friends Pop Star sub-theme. A smaller sub-theme of LEGO Friends that just got released has to do with parties; there is a party train, party cakes, party gift shop, party styling and birthday party – all with lots of accessories and cute animals. Another set that really stands out is the #41118 LEGO Friends Heartlake Supermarket. And to help you with your purchase of any of the new sets, LEGO is offering a free LEGO Friends Adventure Camp Bridge with any LEGO Friends, LEGO Elves, and LEGO Disney Princess purchase of $35 or more. This offer is valid January 16-31, or while supplies last. You can find all the new sets under the LEGO Friends section of the Online LEGO Shop.
➡ LEGO DISNEY PRINCESS PALACE PETS & MORE: Two of the new LEGO Disney Princess set became available a bit early in December, but I will list theme here again for the sake of completeness. They are both related to the Frozen movie: #41068 LEGO Disney Princess Arendelle Castle Celebration and #41066 LEGO Disiney Princess Anna & Kristoff’s Sleigh Adventure. LEGO Disney Princess also has a new sub-theme called Palace Pets with a number of new sets like the #41142 LEGO Palace Pets Royal Castle. Remember that the free LEGO Friends Adventure Camp Bridge offer is also valid when purchasing LEGO Disney Princess. You can find all the new sets under the LEGO Disney Princess section of the Online LEGO Shop.
➡ LEGO CREATOR MODULAR BRICK BANK: The latest in the LEGO Creator Modular Building line, the #10251 LEGO Creator Brick Bank is a must for those who collect the series. I have reviewed this set a couple of days ago (see: LEGO Creator Brick Bank Review), and you can get it – along with several of the previously released sets – under the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.
➡ 2016 LEGO CREATOR 3-IN-1 SETS: Talking about LEGO Creator, there are a number of really nice newly released 3-in-1 sets. The most talked about is the #31050 LEGO Creator Corner Deli, and the #31044 LEGO Creator Park Animals, and there is also the #31048 LEGO Creator Lakeside Lodge, and more. I very much recommend these sets. They are inexpensive, come with great parts, three different models, and lots of play-value. They are available under the LEGO Creator section of the Online LEGO Shop.
➡ LEGO GHOSTBUSTERS FIREHOUSE HEADQUARTERS: The #75827 LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters is the other big set for the beginning of 2016, and in fact it is the third largest LEGO set ever released. You can find the full review here: LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse HQ Review. If you are a Ghostbusters fan this is the ultimate set. You can find it – along with the #21108 LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1, under the LEGO Ghostbusters section of the Online LEGO Shop.
➡ 2016 LEGO STAR WARS SETS: Because of the new film, Star Wars is of course huge right now, and LEGO released a number of new sets to fit the movie – some last year, and some just now. Notable new sets include the #75139 LEGO Star Wars Battle on Takodana with Maz Kanata, Kylo Ren, and Finn, and the #75140 LEGO Star Wars Resistance Troop Transporter with older Leia. Also, there is a whole new collection of LEGO Star Wars Buildable Figures with a First Order Stormtrooper, Kylo Ren, Captain Phasma, Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron. You can find both wave of sets related to the film at the LEGO Star Wars section of the Online LEGO Shop.
➡ 2016 LEGO CITY NEW SETS: There is a new wave of LEGO City Police and LEGO City Fire sets. The LEGO City Police sets are centered around the #60130 LEGO City Prison Island, with several smaller sets within the same sub-theme. The LEGO City Fire line features the #60110 LEGO City Fire Station, and there are several separate fire trucks, helicopters and boats as well. And we also got a number of other LEGO City sets that are worth checking out, including the fun and functional #60118 LEGO City Garbage Truck. You can find all the new sets under the LEGO City section of the Online LEGO Shop.
➡ 2016 LEGO ARCHITECTURE SETS: There is a fresh new line of LEGO Architecture sets, reproducing some of the most spectacular skylines of the world. It is called the LEGO Architecture Skyline Collection, currently with three sets featuring New York City, Berlin and Venice. They are small, but impressive, and would look great on display even in the office. You can find them under the LEGO Architecture section of the Online LEGO Shop.
➡ 2016 LEGO MARVEL SUPER HEROES SETS: The #76049 LEGO Super Heroes Avenjet Space Mission with a detachable mini-jet looks awesome and it comes with a Thanos bigfig, Hyperion, Captain Marvel, Captain America and Iron Man. The #76048 LEGO Super Heroes Iron Skull Sub Attack features Scuba Iron Man in a great looking sand-green suit unique to this set. You can find both sets under the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes section of the Online LEGO Shop.
➡ 2016 LEGO DC SUPER HEROES SETS: On the DC Super Heroes side we get the #76045 LEGO Super Heroes Kryptonite Interception, the #76044 LEGO Super Heroes Clash of the Heroes with an awesome looking armored Batman, and the #76046 LEGO Heroes of Justice: Sky High Battle with a new Batwing. You can find all of them under the LEGO DC Super Heroes section of the Online LEGO Shop.
➡ 2016 LEGO BIONICLE SETS: LEGO Bionicle got a full wave of new sets, and each pair of Uniter and Creature sets can be combined to create a more powerful armor for each character using a unity piece. So if you plan to get any of these sets, I recommend that you get them in pairs. The #71311 LEGO Bionicle Kopaka and Melum Unity Set already includes both combinable characters. One of the most impressive sets in the series is the #71310 LEGO Bionicle Umarak Hunter with a menacing looking armor and huge bow. You can find all the new sets under the LEGO Bionicle section of the Online LEGO Shop.
➡ 2016 LEGO TECHNIC SETS: The two new LEGO Technic Pull-Back Racers were already released in December and we talked about them before (see link at the end of this post), but there are a number of other great sets as well, including the #42052 LEGO Technic Heavy Lift Helicopter and the #42050 LEGO Technic Drag Racer – both 2-in-1 models. There are a couple of smaller 2-in-1 sets as well. You can find them all under the LEGO Technic section of the Online LEGO Shop.
If you want to see all the new sets at one place, you can also browse the What’s New section of the Online LEGO Shop. Besides the new sets, LEGO is also running a major clearance on the older sets, so make sure you take a look at the Sales & Deals section of the Online LEGO Shop before you check out – you can often find interesting treasures.
So what do you think? How do you like the first wave of 2016 LEGO sets? Do you have any favorites? And which one(s) are you planning to get? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! 😉
And you might also like to check out the following related posts:
I got Ultimate Clay, Aaron, Robin and Lavaria, Beast Master’s Chaos Chariot, Merlock’s Library 2.0, and Infernox Captures the Queen. I already got the Rumble Blade (The vehicle with the flying “dagger”) for Christmas, but I’m definitely not done with Nexo Knights.
Happy New Year everyone. I have to say this wave of sets is one of the best I’ve ever seen. I was very doubtful of Nexo Knights, but I have to say it seems really cool, better than Chima so far, in my opinion. The new Force Awakens sets are exciting, and Creator is on its game 😀 . Also, all those Technic cars! The pull-back racers of late were nice, but it’s cool to see a more varied line up of cars, that still don’t go into the $89.99 territory. I ended up passing on Bionicle, (the constraction system doesn’t hold a lot of interest to me,) but the new versions of the characters look good. I may get the Race Cart and one of the Force Awakens sets. I’ll have to see which characters Lego sparingly granted us with each set 😛 .
One more thing, Batman and Superman both in $12.99 set! Ok I’m done.
Nice summary. Yes, the January wave of sets is strong with the Force. 😀
Except for Friends. In my (albeit immature) opinion that would be the dark side 😀 .
Strider – I thought that $12.99 Batman/Superman set was amazing too! That’s definitely on my list. I’m going to use my Target gift card for the Creator Lakeside Lodge set. I absolutely love it. I got the space shuttle for Christmas so I might do the observatory build first, set to look at the shuttle through the telescope. I really like the Ocean Explorer set as an excellent gift option – three great builds for $14.99. Exciting new year!
Yeah, I love small Lego sets that come with great builds and minifigures/parts. I’ll most likely get the Batman vs. Superman smll set, I mean there’s the move right there 😛 . (I know, there’s also Wonder Woman.) Creator’s a theme that I usually look at but rarely buy. Not enough fictional appeal 🙂 .
