LEGO is running an interesting contest to continue building excitement for the upcoming The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part film coming early next year (see: The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part Trailer). The Awesome Building Buddies Competition ask LEGO fans to pair up and build something unique for a chance to have their creation included in the credits of The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. Details below. 🙂
➡ LEGO MOVIE 2 CONTEST – OVERVIEW: Join the Awesome Building Buddies Competition! Do you and your best building buddy want to see your awesome design in the end of The LEGO Movie 2? Awesome happens when two imaginations collide! So, team up with a friend, parent, brother or sister, distant cousin, pen pal, extra-terrestrial pet – you get the picture! Then build a cool, creative combination of your two favorite things. Send us a picture of you both with your awesome creation by following the steps below for a chance to win!
➡ LEGO MOVIE 2 CONTEST – HOW TO ENTER: Step 1: Team up with your best building buddy. Step 2: Build a LEGO creation that combines your two most favorite things in the whole world. Broccoli and cookies? A dragon and a butterfly? What will it be? Step 3: Download, print out and sign the submission form and terms and conditions. If you’re 18 years old and below, you need a parent (for each building buddy) to sign for you. Step 4: Send a picture of you and your awesome creation along with a picture of your signed submission form to BuddiesUS@LEGO.com.
➡ LEGO MOVIE 2 CONTEST – RULES: The creation should be a combination of two of your favorite things, as decided by you and your Building Buddy. Photos should be shot horizontally, featuring the Entrant and the Building Buddy and their creation in the same image. All entries must be photographed in natural daylight (no flash). If the photo gets too dark, it will be hard to see the detail in your creation. Please take your photo in front of a plain white or off-white background to keep the visual focus on the creators and creation. Photographs must be in color and in a digital format. No print or film submissions will be accepted for entry into this competition. Photos must be at least 3000 pixels x 2500 pixels in dimension. The photo image must be in .jpg, .tiff or .png format, with a maximum file size of 25 MB. Any photos shot on a smartphone (e.g., iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, etc.) will accommodate this size. If emailing the photo from a smartphone, please make sure to select “Actual size” or “Original size” when prompted what size photo to attach. Only still photos should be submitted; no video. Do not wear clothing that contains any visible logos, copyrighted material or busy patterns which visibly distract from your LEGO creation. Solid colors or simple patterns are preferred. Both the Entrant and the Building Buddy must be visible in the photo. Both must be directly facing the camera, smiling with both eyes open. Try to avoid glare in your photos. If you wear glasses, a slight downward tilt of the head/glasses should help reduce the glare. The Submission cannot have been previously published or submitted in any competition of any kind. Your submitted photo must be accompanied by a signed consent form. The consent form must indicate the consent of a parent or legal guardian for anyone under the age of 18 appearing in the photo. Please note that there are other rules and restrictions, including eligibility, limitation on entry, what minifigures and pieces you can and can’t use, etc., so make sure you read through the contest page carefully.
➡ LEGO MOVIE 2 CONTEST – DEADLINE: You must submit your entry by July 31st, 2018 at 23:59 Central European Time. You can use an online time-zone converter to make sure you don’t miss the deadline.
➡ LEGO MOVIE 2 CONTEST – JUDGES: The potential winner(s) will be selected by members of The LEGO Movie 2’s directorial and production team beginning on August 3rd, 2018. The judges will have broad discretion in the selection of potential winners, but will be looking for submissions that are fun, creative, original, and in keeping with the overall spirit of the LEGO brand and The LEGO Movie films.
➡ LEGO MOVIE 2 CONTEST – PRIZES: The winner or winners will have their submitted photograph displayed during the end title sequence of The LEGO Movie 2. The prize is non-transferable and no cash alternative is available. The prize has no cash value. The number of prizes to be awarded will be determined by The LEGO Movie 2 filmmakers, based on their judgement, and subject to technical limitations. There will be at least one winner and possibly as many as 50 winners.
➡ LEGO CONTEST – WINNERS ANNOUNCEMENT: Potential Winners will be contacted via the entrant’s email address on August 6th, 2018. Potential winners have ten (10) days from the date of notification to complete and return the Winners’ Documents. If a potential winner cannot be contacted, has not claimed their prize within ten (10) of days of notification, or fails to complete the required Winners’ Documents correctly, a new potential winner may be selected from all remaining eligible entries received before the closing date, in accordance with the selection procedure above.
LEGO run a similar contest before The LEGO Movie with great results! If you would like to see your LEGO creation at the end of The LEGO Movie 2, this is your chance to participate! It’s interesting that this time, LEGO is asking you to build with a partner, which may be hinting on the theme of The LEGO Movie 2.
What do you think? Are you excited for The LEGO Movie 2? And are you planning to participate in the contest? Who are you going to build with? And what will you build? Feel free to share and discuss in the comment section below! 😉

The Lego Movie had this too. Nice that they are doing it again. Are the entries visible? This is not on the Rebrick site.
The entries are not visible on this contest, although LEGO may share them later.
I don’t see an age limit on this one? So everyone is good to go?
Looks like that.
“Step 3: Download, print out and sign the submission form and terms and conditions. If you’re 18 years old and below, you need a parent (for each building buddy) to sign for you.”
That’s correct; no age restriction! 😀
Can we mix Duplo legos and regular legos? So younger kid builds Duplos and older kid legos and they combine?
It says in the rules that Duplo is fine, as long as it is not something licensed.
Actually, no. I don’t know why, but the rules say:
“IMPORTANT NOTE ON LEGO DUPLO CREATIONS: Submissions created with LEGO DUPLO are acceptable but must consist of only LEGO DUPLO elements. Submissions made up of LEGO DUPLO elements combined with standard-size LEGO elements will be rejected.”
But it doesn’t say anything about Lego Quatro elements 😉
LOL! There is our loophole! 😀
Hm… interesting. Thanks for sharing that. I didn’t catch that either.
I like the idea of working with someone in a different part of the world, and the contest page even suggest that a “pen pal” could be your building buddy, but the requirement to put both people and the creation in the same photo makes that impossible, except by photoshopping.
That’s a nice idea, I can ask my contacts at LEGO about that. I’m going to ask right now, and get back to you when I get an answer.
Mark, okay, I heard back from my contact at LEGO, and they checked with the team that runs with this contest. If you are working with a pen-pal, it’s okay to merge or photoshop your photos together. 🙂
