Below is the designer-video for the #10266 LEGO Creator Expert NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander by LEGO Designer Lars Joe. He will show you many of the interesting details.
It’s interesting to note that this is not the first Lunar Lander LEGO ever released. Back in 2003, they had the LEGO Discovery line with models of various space exploration vehicles. This included the #10029 LEGO Lunar Lander, and a smaller Lunar Lander in the #7468 LEGO Saturn V Moon Mission (see both sets below). It’s worth studying the earlier sets and comparing them to the new one to see how building techniques changed.
The #10266 LEGO Creator NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander is also going to be a great companion display set for the #21309 LEGO Ideas NASA Apollo Saturn V, which includes a micro Lunar Lander. The Saturn V is considered one of the best sets LEGO ever released, and it is still available at the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop.

Fantastic set, but why are the minifigs so plain? That’s the only gripe I have about it. They are not the likeness of the astronauts, and there should be arm printing with the American flag!
I really like the added gold. The previous landed was using tan for that section. That’s a nice touch. I agree with Jeff thought that the minifigs should be better. Even the city astronauts are better with arm printing and leg printing.
It’s a simple thing, but my favorite part is the legs. They look so industrial and spaceship-like. I also like that the sections can separate, and the moon base is a nice touch. Reminds me of the old moon baseplates.
I ‘m so happy about this! I always wished I had the older lander, but I missed out on it. This one is even cooler! I hope they release more NASA sets this year!
It’s really a great time to be alive with all the space missions happening right now. I always loved lego space sets, and I hope they will continue to make more.
Very cool looking set. I might get it later in the year. I’m waiting to see what’s coming out this summer.
I love it! I’d really like to get it to go with my Saturn V rocket. I actually have the lunar lander from 2003, so I’ll have to think about this one!
Whoo, gorgeous model! It would be kinda fitting for me to get this model to celebrate my 50th birthday coming up in June, but money needs to go elsewhere. Eh, maybe later! 😀
I like it. And it will look nice with the Saturn V. Good catch about the arm printing. And the Saturn V minifigs are the micro mini’s, I was hoping these would be too. But the scale would be off, wouldn’t it? But all in all, I really like it.
Melanie, yes, this is a BIG set, so it wouldn’t work with micro-figures. But it will still look great with the Saturn V! 😀
