Oh, my, I wasn’t expecting this! I love the colors of the set! The station looks so nice, and so is the train. And I love Minnie! I wonder why they changed her skirt to cloth.

    • admin August 13, 2019, 9:16 PM

Minnie has a cloth skirt so she can sit down inside the train. 🙂

It’s really nice looking, but wow, that price! It’s probably due to the power functions. They should have included that as an optional add-on.

I see several new parts, like the black handcuffs for that awesome ironwork, new pieces in nougat, and of course the minifigs. Is Goofy’s hat a detachable piece? The train seems to be wider than normal. Eight studs, maybe?

    • Håkan August 13, 2019, 5:24 PM

I’d guess Goofy’s hat is premolded to his head. He’s rarely seen without it in his most iconic apparance, anyway.

    • admin August 13, 2019, 9:15 PM

Yes, the train is eight studs wide, wider than other trains.

The station looks so nice. It reminds me of the modular fire station. I really like the color of the roof, the windows, and the black decorations. The trains seems a little too simple for me, but it matches the source material.

I had no idea this was coming up.

I still haven’t put together my Disney Castle. Looks like I need to do some catching up.

  • Maya McMullan August 13, 2019, 3:59 PM

oh my…. I wanted the Disney Castle, but it doesn’t fit with the majority of what the SO and I have on display (and we have no room to display something that large). This is so tempting! I think I may be glad I can’t afford it. I wish I could get hold of a Goofy at least.

    • admin August 13, 2019, 9:14 PM

It’s very likely that LEGO will release Goofy either in another set or a future Collectible Minifig Series. They rarely make moulds just for one set. At least that’s the hope. 🙂

      • Håkan August 15, 2019, 8:52 AM

Hmm, wonder if that appearance will differ much from this version. In the US appearances he usually seems to have a lime green hat, orange sweater, black vest and blue trousers. in Denmark and Italy he usually has a blue hat, red sweater, black vest and blue trousers, In Netherlands he has a blue hat, orange sweater, black vest and blue trousers, and in France apparently an orange hat, red sweater, black vest and blue trousers… Although it’s likely Lego will go the US route by default…

        • Håkan August 15, 2019, 8:56 AM

Also the shoes are usually yellow in Italy, but mostly brown anywhere else…

His Goof Troop variant is a bit different, but it feels a bit less iconic and dated nowadays as a probable choice…

          • Håkan August 15, 2019, 8:58 AM

*less iconic, and also a bit dated* … I could have written that more clearly…

  • The Other Mark August 13, 2019, 4:10 PM

Expensive, but it looks really good. I wonder why they made the train engine dark green. Isn’t the original dark blue? I like either color, just wondering. The train station is beautifully detailed.

    • admin August 13, 2019, 9:13 PM

My understanding is that there is more than one version of the train; some dark-green, some dark-blue.

  • Mark Avery August 13, 2019, 6:50 PM

Like others, the price is over my head. I wish the station and motor were sold separately.. Extra straight. track would also help— but that’s an old complaint.

  • Robert B Hunter August 13, 2019, 7:09 PM

    Wow, looks awesome!

I do have one question: Does it come with a train remote https://shop.lego.com/en-US/product/remote-control-88010 ?

I’m getting the feeling that this you need to buy this item extra. Granted a lot of people have smart phones, but for that price… well, it’s a Disney item, so it’s going to naturally cost more. 🙂

    • admin August 13, 2019, 9:10 PM

Robert, the set does not come with a remote. It is controlled by the Powered Up app. If you prefer a remote, you would have to get it separately. I do agree with you that they should have really added a remote just like they have done with the other Powered Up trains.

      • Rob August 14, 2019, 9:26 AM

Heh, used autofill and my full name on my comment above. 😀 Maybe it was a cost saving move for as much as the model is, but at the same time I think it looks better to have the remote with the set. “I’m paying this much and if I want to get the remote and not have my kid using my phone I gotta pay nearly $25 extra?!” Well… whatever works.

        • admin August 14, 2019, 11:05 AM

I totally agree, and I would have wanted a remote with this set too. The app is not bad, but it’s kind of inconvenient. Plus, who knows how long LEGO is going to support the app. Without it it’s not possible to turn on or run the train. That’s why I recommend picking up a remote for future-proofing.

          • Rob August 14, 2019, 4:07 PM

Oh, good point on how long Lego supports the app. With any luck there might be an upgrade available as with from Power Functions to Powered Up, but it would be cheaper and wiser to get the remote now. Oh, and I could see this set become a collectible and being able to fully use it would give it more value.

Lego is killing me. I am trying to stop buying sets for a while and this doesn’t help my addiction……

    • admin August 13, 2019, 9:12 PM

Matthew, no need to rush. This set will be around for a while. I do feel your pain though. So many great sets have been coming out lately!

  • Legostuff14 August 13, 2019, 10:15 PM

I think it’s a great set but, do you think Lego is putting it out too soon while they are still having trouble with the new VIP program . ( I called customer service. And it’s still a mess). Unless they’re counting on the draw of the set to pick up their sales and maybe customers won’t care about the VIP problems. Just a curious question.🤔

    • admin August 14, 2019, 10:41 AM

My guess is that the two events are not related as they are managed by completely different departments. In fact, the VIP program is now managed by a third party, so they would have no influence on when this set is released. I do agree that the botched release of the VIP program can effect their sales. I’m sure if it starts to get too painful financially, they will make some changes. But for now, I’m getting the vibe that they are confident the VIP program will work out after the initial hiccups. What I’m hearing through the Ambassador Forum is that relatively few people are still having problems.
